6.16-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.16-GE-1 for cinematics
Played through entire game. Runs just as well as the previous native ones.
All black screen otherwise
Framerate is unusually low in places, probably because of buggy game
Manually switched to Proton version
Cutscenes had no audio
Native version had massive input lag. Proton was much smoother but had no sound in cutscenes
Finished game without issues
Used Proton 7.0-5 here because native didn't display controller prompts. Otherwise both versions felt identical.
Finished game with no breaking issues
Video after credits is a test pattern (likely fixed with mf-install)
Finishable with annoyances
Crashes every 30 mins or so
Credits video does not play
WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
Launch arg fixes garbled videos. If that doesn't bother you, feel free to skip since they don't add any value to the game.
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST, otherwise menu video will be black
Gameplay is platinum. Played through all levels with xbox one controller. But, what I assume is, video are all black
Completed without major issues
Towards the end, spacebar stopped being recognized making the final "boss" impossible. Restarting the game fixed the problem.
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST to fix black screen on startup
Stable and runs ok if you can stand the low FPS
Zooming out results in terrible 40-ish FPS and it's really hard to see what's going on zoomed in. AoE2 DE runs at 120fps all the time.
Played through the campaign. Everything works, but crashes often on startup
Have to use low settings to avoid crashes
Using any higher graphical settings make the game crash in game and when loading some operations. I did not have a single crash after switching to low graphics, and honestly I think it even looks better. The only thing higher settings seem to do is add a lot of blur
Switched to proton from native
Seems like a missing into video (all black screen)
Native version only showed solid colors
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST for audio in cutscenes to work GloriousEggroll
Encountered exploding geometry in one place (a bridge), making that part much harder than needed
Game is playable but the missing audio is not ideal for a story driven game
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=b,n" %command%
Finished the game without issues. Need to manually force proton since there is an empty linux depot but that's not really proton related.
If you can live with the graphical glitches, it's playable
Low res textures, missing textures (all black), color banding, striped shadows. Lowering post processing quality removes some of the weird shadows but it's still a complete mess.
One one level, exploding barrels required to blow up a wall was missing, making progression impossible. Could be frame rate related as it worked after restarting and limiting fps to 60 using DXVK_FRAME_RATE
Was hesitant to answer yes, but apparently these issues are common on windows as well
Completed game with a handful of hiccups
Had some temporarily game-breaking bugs like climbing back inside a window and climbing on an invisible wall, falling through the floor and a couple of crashes between scenes. But I think that may be the game lacking some polish.
Found no issues apart from fullscreen glitch
Got 20-ish FPS in fullscreen and stable 60 in windowed mode (same resolution)
Installed dotnet40
and xna40
with winetricks
Works flawlessly every other launch
Game does not recognize input every other launch. Just stop the game and launch again.
Had several Nvidia XID crashes. probably not the games fault, though I rarely experience it in other games
Quite a journey. Started playing with Proton 5.13 and couldn't even get the game to sync to uplay. Now, using Experimental released after Proton 6.3, everything works. No dialogue issues with fsync enabled. Even the infamous uplay overlay works as intended!
Finished game and DLC:s with no major issues
Animus control panel was missing from overlay. Does not affect regular gameplay.
Finished game and DLC with some crashes
Crashes a few times a day. Also tends to hang when alt-tabbing out of game
I started playing the game on a GTX 1080 card. Other than disappointing performance the game would crash as soon as the GPU reached 100% load. Had to limit framerate, settings and resolution scale just to be able to play somewhat normally.
No such issues with RTX 4070
Forced proton
Native version started but was <1fps. Didn't even get past the loading screen. Proton was flawless
Finished game with some issues that are also apparent on windows: Can't continue after quit (endless loop). Enemy got stuck on boss battle making the game unfinishable
Finished all missions without problems
Framerate drops are pretty huge with 800+ bots. But that does not seem to be wine specific.
Now works without any tinkering on Proton 5.0-1
Pops up an error about missing shader support. Transitions seem a little slow but hardly matters for the type of game
6.18-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
6.18-GE-2 makes the game function properly
Completed without real issues
Background ambient noise sometimes continue to loop after exiting areas making a jumbled mess of sounds. No idea if this also occurs on windows
Finished game with no major issues
Some slight clipping from time to time
It's a slideshow
13fps out of the box. 22fps after turning all settings to lowest level
Fixes auto playing videos. "Insights" plays at something like one frame every 10 seconds and are unwatchable
Finished game without issues
Played with dualsense controller. Even the motion controls were flawless.
Esync leads to textures not loading correctly
Mouse input is very laggy at 60fps, but barely noticeable with vsync unlocked on a 144hz monitor
Crashed 3-4 times. Save often since the game only auto saves on level changes
Finished the game without issues after disabling esync (low texture res otherwise)
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=144 %command%
mv OpenAL32.new openal32.dll
inside pfx/drive_c/windows/syswow64/
Game works without tweaks. Audio problems are fixed by renaming a DLL. Locking the frame rate fixes some physics glitches and also gives the GPU a breather
Less than expected performance on my GPU for such a simple looking game
Native build is an old alpha release with less than half the game. Used to crash frequently when forcing proton but did not have a single crash in Proton 8.0-2
Finished game in windowed mode
While in fullscreen, game would lock up after switching windows. Playing in windowed mode works around that.
Opening steam overlay locks up the game
Achievements unlocked fine for me
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.8-GE-2-MF for videos.
Game crashes without disabling esync (and fsync if you have that)
6.1-GE-3 GloriousEggroll
Used Proton-6.1-GE-2 for video support
Finished game with xbox one controller
When "cold starting" the game and loading a save from later areas, everything would be black. Fixed by first starting a new game or loading a save from an early area and then loading the later save again
Xbox one controller used to work out of the box. Functionality can easily be simulated using steams controller configuration. After that. Finished games with no issue
Only beat the first boss but so far, playing in 1440p with "cinematic" settings on everything gives a stable v-synced frame rate at 60fps. Playing with xbox one controller. One minor issue is that the games crashes on exit. I still chose to rank it as platinum as it does not affect the game experience at all
Played 37 hours and got 100% map, shards and demons. No crashes or issues.
Completed without issues
Using a dualsense controller with the correct button icons
Removes the test pattern but still doesn't show a video.
You have to click once at the black screen
Previously bronze in 3.16-7 and earlier due to frequent crashing. Still crashes in 3.16-8, but rarely. Severe FPS drops in certain areas. Finished the game and all story DLC
Needs both mf-install and mf-installcab. If your first start is with Proton 5.13 you need to manually copy mf files. Easier to wipe prefix and start game once with 5.0, apply mf fixes and then restore 5.13+
Finished game with one crash
Crashed the second I cleared the last stage. When I restarted I was at the hub and the sidekicks commented on how everything was back to normal so I guess I missed the ending.
Played several matches with different characters. No issues
Game tends to crash without mf-install and also no videos (obviously).
Now works out of the box. Played through the game with xbox one controller. Only issue were a couple of black textures
Finished game with issues. Performance is less than ideal. Ending and credits are broken
Still need to set r_signal_fx "0"
according to link from developer
Finished game
Hard to notice since the game is glitchy by design but there is additional flickering in some places
2 crashes during play through. One while loading the third level and one in the middle of credits
Finished campaign without issues
Performance was a bit varied but enabling resolution scaling helped a lot
Finished game with no real issues
Mostly good performance, 70-100 FPS on 1440p but drops down to 20 in some areas
Played all levels and bonnus content with xbox one controller. No issues encountered.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Screen is completely black with DXVK
mf-install fixes the Humble Games logo at the start. I don't think there is any other video in game
Finished game and dlc with native-like experience.
Finished game without issues
Fell through the floor a couple of times but that seems to happen on windows for some people as well
Finished all free levels
Everything jumps around when clicking in full screen
Now finally works out of the box in Proton 5.13-3+
Finished all free levels
Everything jumps around when clicking in full screen
Finished all free pictures
When in full screen, clicking makes the interface "jump". In windowed mode sometimes starts with wrong windows size, hiding part of the interface
Finished all free levels
Everything jumps around when clicking in full screen
Works out of the box with Proton 5.13-3+
Finished game and both DLC
It's a really demanding game. Had to lower settings and use resolution scaling to get 70-80fps. Even then mouse camera movement feld kind of micro-stuttery
One or two in-game crashes. Frequent crashes when tabbing out of game
Played all missions and several workshop / daily ones
Slows down after long missions, might be a leak in the game. (Just save and reload)
Flickering characters and missing videos makes it a poor experience
Flickering characters
Did not find any issues
Going online did not work, but reading on forums it seems they shut down servers.
Finished game with no real issues
Performance sometimes drops to around 30fps
Finished game with less than ideal graphics
Had to lower resolution and set all graphic options to low to get acceptable performance. Even then, performance degrades over time. I recommend restarting the game after each loop. Input lag seems more affected than FPS
Finished campaign without issues
Works great with default 3.16-9, and even better with 5.13-4. Got stable 200fps
Finished game and bonus chapter
Videos play at double size in 5.13. They were normal in 5.10
Finished game with issues
Quite consistently crashes after a few hours playing
Just launching the game brings down some achievement subsystem in steam, meaning achievements don't work for ANY game until steam is restarted.
The game kept crashing when opening menus. Turning on vsync fixed that. Does not seem to be wine specific.
Finished game without issues
I saw only one video with test patterns in the beginning of the game. So mf-install may be a good idea
Videos did not work in GE, so I had to install MF manually
Played with xbox one controller
Found no issues other than the performance dips
Performance is all over the place. Sometimes it's 120+, in other areas it dips to 30. Having all settings at the lowest makes no difference
I did finish the game, but the low FPS parts were REALLY frustrating
Dips down to 12fps(!) in seemingly random places. Totally unrelated to the amount of MOBs. Lowering settings also does not help.
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command% to fix lighting glitches. After that, finished game with no issues
Used proton Experimental
Must have latest steam client beta and use Proton Experimental
Now works perfectly after CEG support in proton
Not proton specific, but game can crash when loading saves. Developer published a fix on their website that is now removed but can still be found on wayback machine Just replace that file and the game will load
I could not find the DLC cave. Don't know if that's a proton issue or if I'm just blind
Finished game with no proton specific issues
The game is a little buggy (Entering mine outside bounds, Getting left alone on the planet etc. But those does not seem to be proton specific, looking at the steam discussions)
Finished game with regular crashes
Crashed 6-7 times during playthrough
Finished with no in game issues. Stable 144+ FPS
Crashes on exit
Finished game with choppy scrolling
Scrolling is choppy, even when overlay shows 144hz, but I'm guessing that's just how the game is
Finished game with a few missing cutscenes
Most cutscenes worked out of the box but there were a few at the end of the game that showed a test pattern.
Stable 120fps in 1440p except during the boss fight which had a lot of stuttering
Native depot is empty so need to force proton version. A popup then says you are running the game as administrator but after that everything seems to work great
Native depot is empty. Works flawlessly with proton 3.16-6
Played three levels, the third one being almost unplayable
Might not be proton related but had major stuttering on the third level
Finished game without issues
Seems to work great
Some flickering shadows. Intro video is black but can be skipped with ESC
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Freezes on dxvk. Wined3d work fine
Controller works fine now in 3.16-7. Poor steering seems to just be due to a bad game
Finished game with sub par performance
Frame rate is really varied. Sometimes dips down below 20fps and sometimes above 120fps. Changing resolution didn't change performance at all
Finished game using xbox one controller. Might as well have been native!
Finished game with minor issues
Game / DE crashes when alt-tabbing out
On every start, mouse friction to the right is like 10x other directions. Toggling vsync fixes it
Initially flawless but Started crashing randomly 16 hours in or so. Might be present on windows aswell. Also when defeating boss you just get thrown to the main menu. (This seems to be the same on windows by looking in the steam forums)
Perfectly playable to the end after manually installing d3dx9. Only issue is that resolution gets screwed up after game loses focus
Finished game with no in-game issues
Fullscreen had a stutter every second. Borderless window worked without problems
Some font glyphs are missing in menus
Finished game + DLC with no issues
In game config only goes up o 1080p. You can change ResX and ResY in config file 245280/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My\ Games/UnrealEngine3/MonkeyGame/Config/MonkeyEngine.ini
to set it higher
Switched from native to proton
Native build did not launch at all. Something about "bad EXE" in logs. Works like expected after switching to Proton
Played 3 chapters with no major issues
Mouse started to lag behind after an hour of play or so
Finished game without issues
Protondb does not recognize this game on my account for some reason. Actual play time: 31 minutes
Rough game but works as well as can be expected
Noticed a couple of game breaking bugs but those were also reported by windows users so the game is probably just poorly made.
Cannot progress past a certain loading screen without crashing
Performance seems lower than normal
Game crashes several times a mission, requiring you to replay the same areas over and over. One particular loading screen always crashes, making the game not completeable
Major audio problems, both with faudio and xaudio override.
- Sentences overlap each other, making it hard to understand dialogue without subtitles
- Audio rarely dies completely when loading a new sound, such as jumping from high with a power armor. Requiring restart to have audio again
- Occasional "bips and bops"
Mouse input was laggy in fullscreen. Seems to work fine in windowed fullscreen
Major frame drops in large open areas. All the way down to 30fps
3 crashes in 154 hours. So not bad
Finished game with no major issues
NPC:s sometimes bounced from side to side
Clicking something in the steam overlay freezes the game
Finished game with no real issues
Performance could be better. Had to resort to low settings and FSR to get mostly 60-70fps. Probably due to DX12 and Pascal GPU.
After successfully launching game once, make a backup of the Ubisoft Game Launcher in the prefix. If it breaks in an update, overwrite with your backup, keeping the version.txt
file from the update
Finished game with mid to high graphical issues. They were infrequent enough for me to still enjoy the game but your mileage may vary.
Flickering ground textures, sometimes in bright white. Some trees disappear from certain angles
I sometimes got discovered at outposts by shooting an arrow right into an invisible tree.
No changes to settings made any difference, nor did using newer Proton-GE versions or even the latest DXVK 1.7.1
Had to manually install uplay
A bright square present in village
Finished game without issues
Games servers are down so you will be nagged about not being able to connect every time you press ESC
Finished main game and the DLC campaigns with 80-100 fps in 1440p with all settings maxed except HD textures
- Arcade does not work
- Overlay popups gets "stuck" on screen.
- Overlay can not be triggered with Shift+F2
Disable overlay in settings for overlay problems (You won't get achievement popups) Use Proton 5.11-GE-3-MF if you want to play arcade
Finished game with disappointing performance
Really uneven performance. Most often 33-35 fps. 100+ in some areas
Finished game with no linux specific issues
A puzzle near the end of the game crashed the game. There are several comments on that on steam discussions so it seems to be a general issue. Luckily the puzzle can be skipped.
Finished game with intermittent performance problems
Sometimes, after dying or loading a save, performance would be stuck on 7 fps. Other times performance would suddenly drop to around 30 for no apparent reason. Reloading saves can help. In other cases I had to resort to lowering all settings to the bottom (including resolution scale) to get an acceptable FPS again
Worked perfectly out of the box
Finished tutorial and checked out a couple of player worlds without issues
Steps taken:
- Removed existing prefix
- Selected Proton version 5.0-10
- Started game (crashed)
- installed dotnet40 with winetricks wrapper
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST GloriousEggroll
Proton-5.9-GE-5-ST For cinematics
Steps taken:
- Removed existing prefix
- Selected Proton 5.0-10
- Started game to create new prefix (crashed)
- Installed mfc42 to prefix with winetricks
- Started graphic settings option of game
Seems to work great
A square with random colors appears on crits (?)
Finished all main missions without issues
FPS seems low. Had to use low settings to get past 60fps on 1440p
6.16-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.16-GE-1 for videos
Finished game with no real issues
Dropped down to 30-ish FPS in some scenes. Not a big deal for this type of game.
cd "${STEAM_COMPAT_INSTALL_PATH}/launcher"; %command%
Forced steam input on in order for my dual sense controllers buttons to be recognized properly
Most graphics are missing. Backgrounds (but not characters) appear when switching to windowed and shrinking window
Game now works out of the box but with scalling issues leaving some of the game black. Fixed with wined3d
Added lines to config as mentioned by others.
No more than 25 fps without changing config files. Other settings did not affect FPS at all
Finished several levels with no issues
Skill videos require mf-install, but they are entirely optional
Finished game without issues
Used to have problems with cutscenes and light blue textures. No issues now.
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Game is playable out of the box. The port is of questionable quality. Max resolution is 1080p and game loop is locked to 30fps regardless of refresh rate or vsync settings.
If you, like me, are a weeb you might want to install japanese voices and fix the script. Instructions over at pcgamingwiki
Some settings may cause the game to freeze at certain points. This also seemingly happens on windows.
Heavy graphical glitches in anything above 4.11
Big black rectangles all over the screen
Installed dotnet40. Could not get it to install in latest proton.
Switched to proton from native
Installs an empty linux depot by default. Have to manually switch to proton
winetricks videomemorysize=2048
in prefix
and use Proton 4.11
Enabling antialiasing crashes game
Completed game with flawless experience
1440p with perfect 120 hz with plenty of GPU power left. Played with wired dualsense controller. Everything was perfect.
Finished game with no real issues
Occasional slowdowns
Linux version can't get past menu screen. Proton works great except for xbox one controller
Finished game with minor issues
Sometimes materials / terrain flickers
Might not be wine related. Seems like there is a leak when opening and closing map multiple times
Finished game with good performance
Game is generally buggy. Hard to tell if Proton makes it worse.
Finished campaign with no issues
Also tried a multiplayer match which, though there was only one other player, worked great
Now playable in Proton 5.0-1
Slowdowns in fullscreen
Quite laggy in fullscreen. Windowed is fine
Finished game with less than stellar performance
Had to use lowest graphics settings with FSR set to balanced. Even then FPS would dip to lower 40s in some areas. Mostly around 60-ish though
Changing settings or opening steam overlay sometimes make the game crash.
Finished all current EA levels with less than ideal performance / looks
Terrible performance (~10fps) on anything but the very lowest setting. Also need to completely exit game after chaning settings or performance will not be reset.
After playing a few hours performance starts to degrade even on lowest setting. Restarting game fixes the problem.
"Very low" graphics make objects pop in 5-10m in front of you making it harder than necessary to find some materials / trophies
Puzzles are unplayable
Framerate, HO and general game works fine but clicking in puzzles locks the game up for ~5 seconds
Disabling esync/fsync didn't make any difference for me
Couldn't join any servers because they required a more recent version
You can still get the native version to run by creating a symlink
cd steamapps/common/Hurtworld/experimental
ln -s ../Hurtworld.x86_64 .
Seems unplayable on nvidia at the moment
The fish bowl is a mess of black squares with a pixelated light beam sticking out of it
Very varied frame rate
Played the entire game and got all achievements using xbox one controller. Couldn't have worked better if it was native.
PROTON_LOG=1 %command%
Probably a bug in the steam client that web based games require logging to be enabled. Launching the steam client from a terminal also works
Finished main game and eastern DLC without issues
Tested the other two DLC and they were fine as well
Even at the very lowest settings I struggled to reach even 60fps
GE-Proton fixed intro videos.
Finished game with minor annoyance (flickering)
Game seems to try to fullscreen it self several times a second. Couldn't alt-tab or move it to another desktop (on plasma). I could also see the taskbar flickering during gameplay
All three modes has their own major issues
Cutscenes works with native and wined3d but not DXVK
The native version started windowed. Trying to go fullscreen with Alt+Enter made the whole screen pink
Running with wined3d, FPS was around 20. Was stable 60 with DXVK
- Native version goes all pink when switching to fullscreen
- Proton has garbled cutscenes
- Proton with
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
had unplayable performance but working cutscenes
No issues other issues found
Cutscenes are yellow and weirdly stretched
WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
Launch arg fixes intro video being yellow and stretched. Probably other videos as well
Played the whole game and all story DLC
A handful of crashes in 49 hours playtime, only during loading screens
Mouse input is laggy until you tab out and in again
Finished game with no other issues
Shouldn't complain since I get between 60-80fps, but curiously GPU is only 50% used. And CPU barely touched. Both with performance
profiles.
--use-angle=vulkan
Without the launch parameters fullscreen didn't work and the window is tiny
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
on initial launch
Launched with
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
To get past the initial character select screen. Afterwards remove and play normally
Finished story with minor graphical issues
Some light effect such as laser beams are barely visible
winetricks d3dx9_41
Finished a couple of levels without issues
Works great out of the box
Leave vsync turned on otherwise you will have problems controlling vehicles and such.
Finished game. No real issues
Intermittent stuttering
Works great without tinkering
Finished a couple of levels with no issues.
WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
Launch option to fix video playback as mention in a previous report
Switching to proton
Native version only flashed solid colors. Proton had no issues
The crashing makes it a poor experience
Crashed every 2 hours, which is really frequent for an idle game
During the first hours, the crashes aren't too annoying but as the game starts to take longer to progress it becomes unbearable
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Screen is all black with DXVK
Finished game with no proton-specific issues
Game is quite buggy. Two tips:
Game likes to overwrite config with nonsense values which leads to missing textures and whatnot. Manually edit config file
16730/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My\ Documents/My\ Games/Legendary/PandoraGame/Config/PandoraEngine.ini
and make it read onlyAt one point you will fall through an elevator, making it impossible to progress. In file specified above, set MaxSmoothedFrameRate to 30 until next checkpoint to work around this.
Otherwise, message pops up complaining about texture cache
PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
Force enabled steam input
Got stuck on intro video with fsync. Crashes on launch with controller plugged in. Fixed by force enabling steam input for the game, after which controller input also works
Finished game with no achievments. Probably works in proton
No steam achievements
Finished game without issues
Mouse movement is locked to 50fps due to some unity thing. So even if game is running at 144fps, mouse movement feels choppy. This is a game engine thing and not proton specific.
No major issues found
Font size is too wide so text does not fit in boxes and often overlaps
If some bosses seem impossible, try lowering FPS to 30 by pressing the f1 key
MANGOHUD_CONFIG=fps_limit=60 mangohud %command%
Need to limit FPS to 60 to get past one horse/balance puzzle
Completed without issues
EA launcher causes problems as usual. No controller prompts although controller works perfectly. No steam overlay. Nothing proton related though.
Finished without issues
Protondb does not recognize this title on my account for some reason. Actual play time: 101 minutes
Finished game with a couple of crashes
A couple of crashes during playthrough. No big deal since the game auto saves
Or videos will display with test patterns
Struggled to get a stable frame rate. Even dipped to lower 30s in some parts
For one cutscene
Some slowdowns in the alien world
Finished game without issues
The final cutscene after the credits was unwatchable. 0.5fps. Everything else worked without a hitch
Error messages spoil the out of the box experience
Game pops up several error messages
Although the game works fine, having to ignore several error messages every launch is not a great experience
Finished game with slight performance problems
Performance tanks with some particle effects. Last chapter was entirely below 40fps
Finished game without issues
100+ FPS at max settings in 1440p (Except scripted scenes, which are locked to 30fps). Played with xbox one controller
Seems to work without issues in Proton
Controlled didn't work in native version. No issues found in proton
eval $(echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/mafiadefinitiveedition.exe'/")
The launch option is needed to bypass the 2k launcher. Manually renaming exe-files probably work aswell.
6.16-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
6.16-GE-1 for video support
Finished game without any real issues
Crashed 3-4 times during playthrough. Nothing progress hindering
Every startup, game is locked to 60fps. Had to change something in settings for it to unlock again
Almost completely unplayable
Because of the settings, textures would be place-holdery, making it difficult to find anything
Even with everything set to low and FSR from with what seemed to be 240p resolution, there would be frequent stutters.
Sometimes the game would run at 2FPS, even in menus with GPU utilization at 100%
If you have a similar GPU, extreme patience and really RELLY love this game you could probably make a complete playthrough.
Finished game with no real issues
Minor flickering. More visible in the "flashback" scenes
Enabling NVAPI makes the game crash so I guess some features were disabled. Had a stable 120fps in 1440p.
Works great until finishing first level
Crashes after finishing level and does not save progress
No issues found after lowering settings
Completely unplayable before changing settings. Got 2fps with default settings
Framerate feels inconsistent even though steam overlay says stable 30fps. Sometimes crashes when fiddling about in menus
Finished all 6 games with no problems
Default proton is 3.16-9 by Valve testing
Finished main game and DLC:s with frequent crashes
No crashes up to the desert level, after that the game crashed every 5-10 minutes. Lowering settings mitigated somewhat but still had consistent crashes every 30-60 minutes to the end
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Before locking frame rate, everything ran at more than double speed (144hz) and started with everything all black before alt tabbing
WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
Launch param fixes distorted videos. Possibly only intro video
Played the entire game with xbox one controller. Everything works perfectly. Including workshop
Edit these values in config file if you want a higher fps than 62:
steamapps/compatdata/17410/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/EA Games/Mirror's Edge/TdGame/Config/TdEngine.ini
MinSmoothedFrameRate=44
MaxSmoothedFrameRate=160
Don't turn on PhysX, it will lower FPS to <10 when in use. This is a problem on windows aswell. You should apparently be able to replace the physx dll:s with newer ones, but I tried installiing physx with winetricks and remove the ones shipped with the game with no luck.
Finished game with some performance issues
Very varied FPS. Anything between 30-120fps
Finished game without issues
The game was unplayable for years. Only recently started working. Either through a game or steam client update.
Played 113 hours with no significant issues
At one point you can buy a TV and play tapes. This requires mf-install (or Proton-GE). The videos add nothing of value to the lore and are safe to ignore
Disabled fsync and esync, otherwise levels would not load
Gameplay works great
No music on first launch, fine on second
Crashed on exit
The game has a native wine build that has all sorts of issues, including graphical corruption. Switching to Proton, everything seems fine
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Native version has no sound and controller does not work. If you have a monitor refresh rate higher than 60 you have to manually limit to 60 or you cannot pass certain obstacles. Game is quite buggy overall but it seems that's the case on windows as well.
Forced proton, chose opengl
Native version closes shortly after opening. Proton with directx crashes with errors
5.21-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Game has to be stopped manually after exit
7.0rc2-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Played with Proton 7.0rc2-GE-1. Crashes before menu with vanilla Proton
Finished game with no issues
Slightly off topic: Game is locked to 30fps. If you are used to 100+ fps on a VRR-monitor this can be rather jarring.
Finished story with missing cutscenes
Many missing cutscenes
Weird scaling issue where an overlay is centered instead of stretched. Mouse movement is only registered in that screen
Finished game with xbox one controller, 1440p@144hz with no issues
Making of / special feature videos do not play in game but can be played manually in [steampath]/steamapps/common/Ori DE/oriDE_Data/StreamingAssets
Finished game with no major issues.
Shader pre-caching does not seem to work properly resulting in major stuttering 1-2 secs when game loads new resources for the first time.
5.9-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
Mouse movement feels sluggish even at 80fps
FPS dips down as low as 40 in some areas
Finished game without issues
Tested with default 3.16-9 and 5.13-4. The latter gave better performance.
Using GE because of test patterns in menu using vanilla
Selecting proton instead of native because of pink texture problem
Native port has pink textures. Force proton
Finished game without issues
Previously the game had some scaling issues making everything blurry on 1440p. The new FNA version is flawless.
Cannot use 3dmark on vanilla proton. Also crashed on exit afterwards. Had to start with a clean prefix and run GE
Works great except for test pattern in intro video
Native version did not recognize input at all. Proton worked great
Finished with disappointing performance
Default settings, ~43 fps. Setting everything to lowest, ~50 fps
Finished game with some issues
Mixed performance. 80+ FPS in some areas, 30 in others. Performance dropped to a stable 7FPS in the next to last chapter. Had to restart the game to fix it.
If you get stuck after reloading a checkpoint, disable head bobbing
Seems to work as intended
Game froze after just moving a few steps. Worked fine after restarting
6.5-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Used proton 6.5-GE-2 for a really intro movie.
Finished game with only the input thing detailed below
Stops responding to input after playing 1+ hours. Save often
Switched to proton
Native version misbehaved with my dualsense controller. Proton was flawless
minor scaling issues (black lines between tiles) and occasional sound micro stutters. But otherwise completeable
Seems to work as intended
A dialog pops up complaining about expired certificates. Game works normally
Otherwise ending video was just a test pattern.
Finished game with only a few crashes
3-4 crashes during playthrough. Mostly while loading an area
Played one online match without any issues
Install dotnet45 with winetricks. The package is incompatible with wine 6.3, so switch to 5.0 before installing. You can change back after
Tried both solo and online multiplayer
It crashes too often to be enjoyable
Either crashes on launch or after a few minutes of playing
No issues found with Proton 7.0-1
No controller issues, also no need to launch in safe mode
For intro video
Game is quite buggy but that does not appear Proton related
Found no major issues
Generally slower FPS than is warranted for games like these. Could be a game issue as others have complained in steam forums.
Seems to work great in windowed mode
Game runs at 30fps in fullscreen. In windowed I get about 140fps. I don't think this is proton related but a poorly optimized game
Plays well at lowest settings
Had to switch to lowest settings, otherwise performance would tank down to 13fps when looking at particle effects.
Finished game with no crippling issues
Had to manually set controller bindings every launch. And prompts show keyboard keys
Sometimes crashed when transitioning between levels. Fortunately game auto saves often so no biggie
Intro logo/videos stutter for some weird reason. In game was great, both with DX12 and DX11 80-120fps in 1440p
Audio stutters but sorts it self out after a couple of minutes. Otherwise playable without issues through the end
Cutscenes flicker intensely in way that could probably cause seizures
Crashes after every live action segment but luckily no progress is lost
Live action cutscenes did not play in vanilla proton but do in GE. The crashes are present in both versions
Otherwise, video screens show test patterns. Possibly cutscenes too down the line
Finished game without issues
Solid 120fps in 1440p using high settings and very high textures
Finished game with some crashes
Black circle in middle of skybox. Not noticeable unless you look straight up
5-6 crashes during playthrough. 2 during the last mission which made me restart the whole thing
Finished game and DLC with some crashes
Crashed 5 times during playthrough. Seems to be an issue on windows aswell. Not a big deal since the game auto saves often.
Good performance. Around 140-ish fps in 1440p
Found no issues
Protondb does not recognize my ownership of this title. Actual play time: 15 minutes
Completed without real issues
3 crashes during gameplay. Probably not proton related.
Did not find any issues
Didn't play past the train but several cutscenes up to that point worked out of the box
Other than shader cache stuttering, found no issues
Above normal amount of shader compilation stuttering
Does not finish loading without tinkering
Install wmp11 with winetricks
Finished first episode with minor issues
Unusual amount of shader cache stuttering
Some cutscenes are black
All games work great. Launcher uses a separate window from games which sometimes causes fullscreen issues. This can be worked around by minimizing and then maximizing again
Found no other issues
Fullscreen opens as a black screen with a tiny stamp sized display in the top left corner. Alt-tabbing out and in a couple of times shows a scaled version in the middle but the tiny screen remains. Apparently this happens on windows as well
Found no issues
Protondb does not recognize some games as owned by me. Playtime ~10 minutes
Cannot play due to anti cheat and there is no solo mode.
Would probably be perfect if devs enabled EAC. Everything else seems to work perfectly
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=144 %command%
Launch option. Without it I got 600+ FPS causing the character to walk super slow and get stuck on everything
Sometimes produces audio "pops" that hurt for headphone users. Otherwise fine
Finished game without in-game issues
Game hangs on exit and has to be force closed
Does not start. A small window briefly pops up
Also tried with Proton Experimental and GE. Same result
Does not start. Installing dotnet48 with winetricks opens a window, but still displays nothing
Tried a few matches with no issues
Stable performance, did notice missing videos but I skipped all the story
Finished game with no issues except for the menu bug.
Opening the in-game menu often makes the game run in 1-2 FPS. Sometimes opening the menu again fixes it but usually I had to restart the game to regain performance.
The game does NOT launch out of the box
cd ".local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Star Wars The Force Unleashed"
mv SWTFU\ Launcher.exe launcher_backup
mv SWTFU.exe SWTFU\ Launcher.exe
After that the game will launch and be "playable"
For me, the game is not really playable, since it is locked to 800x600 resolution in 30fps. The only way to change this seems to download a 3rd party executable that causes loads of other problems. That, however, has nothing to do with Proton or Linux
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=4:0,1,2,3 %command%
Game didn't even launch unless I restricted number of cores
Missing audio makes for a poor experience
All the sound effects are missing. Music and background noise play fine
Seems to work perfectly out of the box
MANGOHUD_CONFIG=fps_limit=60 mangohud %command%
Use your frame limiter of choice and set to 60, otherwise the balance minigame is possibly impossible
Pops up a dialog telling me to install some codec
GE didn't help either
Completed with controller issues
Game did not start with steam input enabled. (Error message in EA client). Setting steam input to system default made the game start but controller didn't work. I had to plug in my old xbox controller since playing with mouse and keyboard was a terrible experience
The controller issues were probably due to the EA overlay. Steam overlay didn't work either
Xbox gamepad stops responding after a while. Other than that, finished game without other issues
Finished with no in-game issues
Hangs on exit. Have to manually pkill -9 bgfx\ -\ renderer
every time
Did not find any major issues
Some missing videos. mf-install did not help. GE probably would have.
Played all missions with great performance and native-like experience.
Two computer monitors showed a magenta rectangle instead of picture
Finished game perfectly without intro cutscene
Intro cutscene did not play
winetricks wmp11
wmp11 for videos. Most videos are a few seconds long but there are longer ones near the end. Had one crash before starting the last mission but no problems on the second try.
Fixes videos when installed with proton 5.0
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
to make game run at intended speed
Also had to toggle fullscreen on every launch (Alt+Enter). Otherwise game would be all black
Finished game with no in game issues
Display is scaled wrong on 1440p. Probably on higher resolutions too. I had to change resolution to 1080p on every launch
- Pausing does not work
- Skipping scenes does not work
- Hangs on exit
Video on vanilla Proton is upside down
Finished game with one game-breaking non-linux-specific bug. PSA: Save before entering train.
Native depot is empty. Works great in proton but achievements does not seem to work
Works well out of the box
Game is hard locked to 30fps. Almost unplayable on a 144hz monitor...
taskset -c 0,1,2,3,4 nice %command%
About 20-30fps without taskset. About 40 with
Finished game with no gameplay issues
Game seems to crash after running a few hours. There are lots of save points so not a big issue. Probably not proton related. Found similar reports from windows users
Finished with no in game issues
The ubisoft client is a pain in the ass as usual. First launch you need to login to ubisoft and restart the game. Every exit it complains about not being able to sync saves and that you are logged out. (Syncing actually works fine though)
Finished game without issues
Flawless in whitelist version, 3.16 aswell as 6.3
Finished game with a very minor issue
Audio slightly out of sync in some cutscenes
Sound effects don't work so can't progress in section where a bell tells you where to go
For cutscenes (Works fine without if you don't care about that)
Finished game without seeing the ending
Crashed before ending video
Game worked fine until beating the final boss, after which it just hung. Had to watch the ending on youtube
A company logo video has a test pattern. Can be viewed with GE. Tinker because game has an empty linux repo so one needs to select proton version manually
Finished game with FPS locked to 45
Game was locked to 30fps at first. After increasing resolution scale to max it was locked to 45fps for some reason.
6.8-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
Proton-6.8-GE-1
Used GE for intro videos, but there were no other videos so it was pointless in the end
6.5-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.5-GE-2 for videos
Hangs on intro video with a black screen on vanilla proton. Works perfectly, including video with Proton-GE
5.9-GE-2-MF GloriousEggroll
5.9-GE-2-MF
Finished game with lots of crashes
Not really a problem with saves but a message pops up on every start claiming your save files are corrupt. This seems to happen on windows aswell according to comments on steam forums
VERY crashy. Probably crashed 40+ times during my playthrough. Even crashes the entire steam client sometimes
Crashes makes it hard to recommend this game but once you launch it enough times it stops crashing for that play session. And the game is very fun to play when not crashing.
It also auto saves frequently so very little progress is lost.
Also tried GE-Proton since some reports claimed that fixed the crashes. It did not change anything for me.
Finished game with one character. No issues
Native depot contain a custom wine that did not launch at all
Works fine but crashes on exit and crashed in game before I could get to the first save point
Gameplay is flawless
Settings UI had black text on black background for some items
Game failed installing ue4 deps so I had to install vcrun2019 manually
Finished game without issues
Performance could be a lot better, but judging by steam reports this is an issue with the game.
There are a couple of videos that do not play without mf-install
There is a bug where controls will stop working in level select. According to Steam forums, this happens to windows users as well.
If you can live with mentioned issues
Some loud noises in some cutscenes / tutorials
Title screen is totally messed up, so is boss battle screens
No gameplay issues found
35fps on second level with default settings, had to switch to low preset to reach 60
Native version had all sorts of issues like audio glitches and screwed up controller mappings. Running in proton was flawless
6.19-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Works out of the box with 6.19-GE-2
Game only works in windowed 800x600
Disabled steam input for controller to work
Had to disable steam input for controller to work.
Protondb does not recognize this game as owned by me for some reason. Actual play time <10 mins
Transitioning between scenes is weirdly slow
3 crashes in play-through. An inconvenience only since game auto saves.
Mouse sometimes goes crazy and spins around in a cricle. Fixed by tabbing out and in again. Also does something weird with the audio that disconnects my bluetooth headset all the time. Otherwise completable
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Native build is broken. Freezes when opening map and has some controller issues.
If you have a high refresh rate monitor you might experience really annoying rubber banding. Forcing 60fps fixes that.
Finished game with wired xbox one controller. No real issues
Weird slow-motion type stuttering on world-map even though frame rate is locked at 60fps
No other issues found
Massive shader cache stuttering when entering new areas
Finished game with some performance issues
Some scenes had FPS in the 30-40's. More than usual shader compilation stutters. But mostly a smooth 120fps.
Disable PhysX in game. Otherwise FPS would drop below 10 in some cases
Finished game without issues
Also works with native ScummVM using Roberta. Though there is not much difference
Finished game without issues
Everything worked out of the box without tinkering, even premonitions.
Found no issues
30 FPS lock can be disabled by running regedit
inside the prefix with protontricks or similar.
Change
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Gaming Corps\The Descendant\UnlockFPS_h1723363984
from 0 to 1
Found no other issues
Terrible performance for this kind of game. Rarely goes over 40fps.
6.1-GE-2 in order to fix voices
Even with Proton-GE there is often some weird audio filter. Sometimes, in Dwemer ruins, reverb escalates into a sharp ear-piercing noise
Focusing other windows often resulted in crash
Finished game without issues
The elevator stutters are probably just hidden loading screens. Stable 120fps in 1440p
Finished game without issues
Native version has all kinds of issues, like missing cutscenes. Proton worked flawlessly
Switched to proton
Native version didn't start, even using Steam Linux Runtime. Proton was flawless
If you have a powerful computer you may want to limit frame rate DXVK_FRAME_RATE=144 %command%
Otherwise some events may fail to trigger
Finished game with minor inconveniences
- Clicking too fast with items selected sometimes made the UI freeze. Had to restart the game to get back control. (Luckily game auto saves every time you enter a room)
- Closing steam overlay more often than not crashes the game
Native version requires adobe air for linux, which has been unavailable for a long time
Found no gameplay related issues
Achievements do not work
I didn't try in proton but the fist seasons worked, achievements included
Finished game without video
Missing (black) videos. mf-install did not help
WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
Launch param fixes yellow, garbled video
Finished game without issues
Started with the native version but after launching a second time it started to segfault. After switching to proton it worked perfectly again loading the same cloud save as the native version.
Finished game without issues
Forced proton because audio issues and one comment suggesting at least one not working puzzle. Proton version is flawless.
For ending videos
Even with mf-install, there is a "hang" of several seconds during the ending videos
17 FPS Should not be acceptable to anyone
Game dips down to 17 FPS in some rooms. Performs even worse with WINED3D (13 FPS)
Native version never worked for me but now that games can be overridden with steamplay i played through the windows version without issues
Would freeze a few seconds after starting with Proton 9.0-3. Runs well with current Experimental but still had two freezes near the end of the game
Finished game with a few recoverable hangs
Hanged several times during "transition warps". Luckily the game auto saves so I did not waste too much time.
Has a native repo with missing executable, need to force proton
Has a native repo with missing executable, need to force proton
Finished game with input lag
Input lag, probably due to the 30 FPS lock limited typing to 3-4 chars / second
Not sure if input lag is proton specific.
Out of the box you cannot progress past chapter 3
Game breaking crash when loading chapter 4
Finished story with some performance issues
Performance plunged when there were fire around. Down to 30-ish FPS from 100+
Played all quests I could find in main game + expansions. No crashes or major problems.
Minor slowdowns at a few places in game
Works flawlessly
If you have a powerful computer you might want to limit the frame rate, since the game has no vsync.
Put the following in games launch options:
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=144 %command%
Without it hair physics is a bit funny
Finished game with no issues other than the crashes
Crashed at least once every chapter. The game thankfully auto saves so it is bearable
Finished game with no major issues
Game would sometimes dip into 30-ish fps
Finished game with less than ideal experience
Really uneven performance. Sometimes 100+ FPS and sometimes down to 15 FPS in the same room, looking a different direction
Tried some proton env-vars, Lowering settings to minimum and even lowering resolution but nothing changed the performance dips.
Managed to finish game with sub par experience
Performance is terrible. Sometimes as low as 20 fps. Tried lowering all settings and even resolution all the way down to 640x480. Makes no difference.
Finished game without issues
Full screen doesn't work (just moves the window to the top left corner and fills the rest with black. But it seems that happens on windows aswell.
Finished game without issues
Opening the menu a lot can degrade performance. Fixed by restarting game
Finished game with no in game issues
Game crashes when losing focus
DXVK_FRAME_RATE=60 %command%
Game runs too fast on higher frame rates than 60
Finished main game + manor with no proton specific issues.
Game is somewhat buggy where certain enemies and bosses just run in place but that happens to a lot of windows users too. Possibly framerate related
Finished game with some issues
Some infrequent flashing objects plus things like ziplines are misaligned
Game is a bit buggy. Expect enemies walking in place and general glitchyness. This does not seem to be wine related
DXVK is very stuttery on this title but wined3d has color banding. Almost as if using a lower bit depth
Color issues with wined3d
The game is also a bit buggy. Getting stuck in places or events not triggering
WINE_DO_NOT_CREATE_DXGI_DEVICE_MANAGER=1 %command%
Launch param fixes weird yellow cutscenes.
Protondb does not see this game as owned by me for some reason. Actual play time: 20m
Worked perfectly out of the box
Spent about half an hour driving around collecting parts and tried a race with no issues
Only for intro videos and tool explanation videos
Ground was flickering in one level
Crashes steam achievements. Launching any title after this one will lead to no unlocked achievements. Restarting steam fixes it.
Only for logo video in intro (Also missing on native)
I could not get audio to work in native version. Proton was flawless
Need to add a registry key of type DWORD in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Reality Pump\TwoWorlds2\Installer
. Name it VersionD
and set it's value to 1. Can be done using wines built in regedit in the games prefix
Need to add a registry key of type DWORD in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Reality Pump\TwoWorlds2\Installer
. Name it VersionD
and set it's value to 1. Can be done using wine's built in regedit in the games prefix
The regedit fix is not proton specific. The game seems to have been review bombed because of it
Had to use the linux development beta. Neither the default one or proton worked for me
Native default does not start. Could not get it to work using proton either
Unplayably slow
Unplayable performance. 9-23fps
All setting at lowest make no difference
Finished game with no major issues
A couple of interactables stopped working during playthrough. Restarting game fixed it both times
Got both haptic feedback and adaptive triggers working with GE-Proton8-4-Dualsense using a wired dualsense controller.
Finished game with minor issues
Dualsense controller was not detected with steam input enabled. Works after disabling steam input but treated as a generic controller with button 06 etc. Making it hard to find the correct button to press
2 crashes
Had to force quit and relaunch after first launch. The EA app was blank and I think it expected me to login. Was fine from second launch onwards
Sound effects only play if you disable esync. Seems flawless after that. Played with xbox one controller
Works out of the box. Only found small performance issues
Very varied FPS. 40-100FPS
Finished game with no in-game issues
Often crashes when entering shop. No crashes in-game
Switched from native to proton
Native version didn't launch at all, even with Steam Native Runtime. Seems flawless on proton
Finishable
Crashes from time to time, mostly on startup. Sometimes shortly after. When it works it keeps on working.
Finished game with minor lighting issues
Light effects are playing too fast
Playable with audio distortion
Some really annoying filter on sound effects. Sometimes ear-piercing with headphones
Native version is several versions behind
Native version is several versions behind.
No major issues found
When clicking in full screen mode, everything jumps around. Windowed mode works normally
Several videos are all black unless you use GE
Game won't start on resolutions higher than 1080p. Had to manually change resolution in games install dir (not prefix). You can then change to a higher setting in game but then it won't launch again next time
Controller worked fine first time, was always pressing up second time and didn't work at all after that. Possibly only works in fullscreen
Played all levels with xbox one controller. No gameplay issues but moving around in menu sometimes produces a deafening static pop sound that can't be good for your ears
Finished game with some annoyances
Constant flickering shadows. Several missing cutscenes (test pattern) near the end of the game
Need to start via the launcher every time, otherwise the entire screen flickers
Loads a completely white middle area with black borders
Japanese fonts are broken. Installing cjkfonts did not help. Menu text is ok
Can only move up and right on xbox one controller. Keyboard is ok
Black screen by default
Selecting a specific proton version is tinkering
Works great after resizing window
Had to resize the window (double click title bar) for clicks to register in the right place
Finished game without issues
Another game that protondb doesn't recognize on my account. Play time: 40m
