Not good. Perfect.
I would bet money on being able to fool people that this was running under windows.

Text can be difficult to read, but not illegible.
Can do a 30fps lock with Highest settings. 40fps lock with High.

If you are looking to play this game on Arch, it launches perfectly and plays just as well.

Using wemod-launcher, which installs WeMod and uses winetricks to adjust the environments and install dotnet 4.8. See https://github.com/DaniAsh551/wemod-launcher for full instructions.
I thought I'd put in a report to show that the game works with WeMod, since it is somewhat difficult, and more people may enjoy it with a little "help" :-)
The game works fine with just the latest Proton as well, if you like suffering.

If you are used to launching Steam through a terminal this game will spam the terminal's output with every single ECS call. Launch steam as the follow command to fix it 'nohup steam &'

Set vsync to 1:2 in the game options (gameplay at 30 FPS)
Most inventory text requires magnification. Even with that, some item descriptions are nearly illegible.
The pre-rendered videos have somewhat choppy playback

Glaring issues with the game design aside, this will play perfectly fine on Linux. The only issues I've encountered is there's a constant stutter, while it's far from unplayable it is noticeable but thankfully ignorable the more you play. This same issue also affects Lords of the Fallen and I imagine The Surge 2 is no different, so it's either the engine doesn't like my setup or these stutter issues are to do with running the game through Proton.
Worked OOTB no tinkering
work perfectly out of the box. The game it self might have some bugs (but its game related)
30 fps (refresh rate 60)
sometimes the game goes down to 15 fps (menus doesnt have this issue when its occur)
very pleasant to play on steam deck
Limited the screen refresh rate to 40HZ and lowered some of the graphics settings.
The game crashed sometimes shortly after a resum from suspend.
It just works.
The controller doesn't alway get recognized whem starting the game. The buttons show up (press A to start) but no input is accepted. Reconnecting the controller while keeping the game runing fixes this though.
It might just as well have been native. No bugs or performance problems.

Slow loading times and poor video performance, but playable.
With default video settings, there are many rendering artifacts, like objects flickering in and out of appearance. Ambient occlusion may be the main culprit.
When the game starts, a black screen is shown for a few minutes while it is loading. Just wait, and it will eventually continue. Using Alt-Tab will disrupt the process, and the game will never load.
Loading between scenes is also be slow. They do eventually finish though.
Video settings can be changed to window mode so the computer can be used for other tasks during loading. Then Alt+Enter can be used to enter fullscreen.
My GPU is underpowered, so I needed to reduce video settings to get playable frame rates. I reduced the resolution, set texture quality to high, antialiasing to FXAA, and everything else to low or disabled.

When I've installed GE for the first time and did first launch of the game on ProtonGE, the game was fluent (on very hight presets on rtx 3050ti it run on 60 fps), but after some minutes fps just dropped. I have no idea what to do
Fps dropping
I've tried a lot of ways of solution. Firstly I've installed ProtonGE7-24, and for first minutes everything was fine. But then FPS just dropped. Then I've installed nohang and memavalid for CPU and GPU optimization. No result. Then I've switched from 515 nvidia drivers to 470. Also no result. Of course I've tried to turn off V-Sync, but FPS was low as before.

installed amdvlk
I see that only amd gpus crash, I'm on arch linux, but this might work for other distros too. I have installed both amd vulkan-drivers. amdvlk and vulkan-radeon. This game doesn't crash with amdvlk, but for example No man's sky only works with vulkan-radeon, for the vulkan-radeon games you need to add AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV %command%
in your steam launch options or uninstall amdvlk when you want to play. No need to restart fot these solutions.
Only the first (tutorial) area works. As soon as you proceed to the second area it's borked.
Game crashed twice. The second time my save was missing upon return.
Frequent FPS drops. Thought noticeable, not terrible and not enough to cause stuttering.
First area run smoothly, but as soon I proceeded to the second the game crashes.
Aside from the FPS drops, the game was running smoothly throughout the first area, but then it crashed on loading the second area. I reloaded and tried again, but then the game bugged and crashed again, when I returned my save was missing (most likely corrupted, due to the strange bug where my character spawned dead after the game loaded).
No issues here.
I was able to install, start the game and play without any issue, using Proton Steam 7.0_1. No issue so far after completing the Assembly Hall.
Runs great. Good fps, no crashes

Game itself runs fine but the constant crashing is extremely annoying. If you can stomach that..its perfectly fine.
Game crashed approximately every 30 minutes or so. More common in combination with alt-tabbing but even without the game is extremely unstable for me. Tested multiple Wine, lutris-wine and Proton/Proton-GE versions and all of them had this problem.
Really low fps couldn't get a stable 30fps at 1080p
Really low fps couldn't get a stable 30fps
Runs perfectly... until it crashes
Flawless performance out of the box for ~9 hours. After that I started noticing the occasional hard crash that takes down the whole computer. Can't really pin it down- it happens in menus, in combat, anywhere. There doesn't seem to be a common theme. I've additionally tried Proton Experimental and 6.3-7 with the same results.
Everything works out of the box
Played from start to end of the game without a single issue.
No issues, played with a DS3 controller
Works perfect.
Works perfectly out of the box
Sometimes the game stops responding (only in the main menu/pause menu)
Flawless OTTB, seels like a native game.
Had the game crashed 3 times in my 40 hours of playthrough.
Big performance hit.
Works as good as on windows
No issues
Slight pause / stutter sometimes.
It's been awesome how i could play this AAA game with full high graphic settings without any problem. The future of gaming is here!
runs perfectly out of the box

Had issues with the environment popping in and out. Just tested it with 4.11-7 and it fixed it.

Runs without any issues using the latest version of proton.
