AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV gamemoderun %command%
needs the radeon vulkan driver set if amdvlk is installed too
It didn't launch with the latest proton and proton-ge had to revert to 9.0-3
gamemoderun %command%
It crashes mid-game on sea

Had to click through the intro, because the intro didnt play correctly
needs radeon-vulkan
I run it on arch linux, but this could be a problem on other distros too. The game doesn't load into the galaxy with amdvlk, only works with radeon-vulkan. I have both vulkan drivers installed, since amdvlk is the default if both are installed you need to add the following to the steam launch options: AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV %command%
AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV gamemoderun %command%
I just searched for Proton BattleEye Runtime in the steam client's library and installed it. I'm just the radv command line to eliminate stutters. The game runs smooth.
installed amdvlk
I see that only amd gpus crash, I'm on arch linux, but this might work for other distros too. I have installed both amd vulkan-drivers. amdvlk and vulkan-radeon. This game doesn't crash with amdvlk, but for example No man's sky only works with vulkan-radeon, for the vulkan-radeon games you need to add AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV %command%
in your steam launch options or uninstall amdvlk when you want to play. No need to restart fot these solutions.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
It doesnt start with default proton, and crashes after loading a save with proton-ge if you use dx12. No problems with dx11.
Directx12 didn't work in my case, performance seems similar to the old version if you select dx11

Stuttering with the amdvlk driver.
Had to disable gpu particles when using the radv driver.
Good news for AMD users! You can completely eliminate stuttering with the radv driver, but you have to disable Gpu Particles, otherwise it crashes the game in certain situation (for me it was, firing railjack weapons).
The radeon-vulkan (RADV) driver adds +10 fps, also the Classic graphics engine runs a lot better (obviously), with +10-20 fps difference. With the amdvlk driver the fps was around 50 in the orbiter, but with the radv it's hitting my monitor's max refresh rate at 75 fps. (Also I compiled the AUR proton packages with -march=native compile flag, that might add a few frames... maybe...)
I did a few hours testing to find the right combination of settings for my system. I don't think running the game with proton-ge makes a difference one can notice easily, runs just as well with the regular proton, at least on my kind of setups, might be differtent with nvidia... Also disabling V-sync and setting an fps cap, however big or small, just makes the game run worse with my settings.
AMD_VULKAN_ICD=RADV gamemoderun %command%
heavy stuttering
stutter, alt-tab problem, little bit better with radv
Multiplayer borked
For this expensive game with this short campaign, multiplayer is a must!
I tried many things mentioned here
cant join games, just host. sometimes eac untrusted warning. without launcher bypass sometimes it doesn't even start.
