Game will close itself
I was able to get into the menu and press new game, however randomly it will close automatically. It seems unpredictable for when it will close itself. Game is unplayable.
Runs fine on Proton 3.16-9. Use "PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 %command%" to minimize the audio crackling, but it is still present.
Can't run on the latest Proton 4.11-3. Would recommend going on an earlier version to make it playable.
Failed to Initialize Player
Failed to initialize graphics. Make sure you have DirectX 11 installed, have up to date drivers for your graphics card and have not disabled 3D acceleration in display settings. InitializeEngineGraphics failed
After putting "PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%" in the set launch options. It ran perfectly
Launching the game
Proton-6.1-GE-2
It stutters sometimes when walking into new ares, but it was much worse prior to the fixes.
Other than minor slowdowns, it runs fine without getting in the way of the game.
Nothing serious, but it can be noticeably slow at times. Otherwise solid 60+ fps
Game runs and plays phenomenally despite missing fmv cutscenes
No fmv cutscenes, but rendered cutscenes play fine.
Proton GE fixes the FMV, but the controller crash still remains and save files are wonky.
Proton-6.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Weird crash when you disconnect and reconnect your gamepad.
Wouldn't load my game back to where I saved. I saved before giving my sister the chocolates, but I will start back at the intro fmv
Works OOB. Got to Sandy Shades (i think that is what its called). Loaded up an old save and walked 5 feet. No mouse lag like others are reporting. I had more problems running this in Windows 7.
Freezes sometimes when a cutscene starts. Game is playable, but this prevents it from being enjoyable.
If you turn off frame limiter the game will freeze when loading cutscenes and transitions, but the game will lock at 25 fps. The only way to get higher FPS is to install Silent Patch mod which locks the game at a constant 30 fps, allows 16:9 aspect ratio, and fixes bugs. However, some features of Silent Patch will only be partially supported in the latest steam version, so downgrading the game is recommended. In order to downgrade GTA:SA, you would have to use this application from Rockstar Nexus, but you wont be able to connect to the Rockstar Nexus Servers to download the necessary files. The only solution for this is to boot up windows and downgrade it there, then boot up Linux so you can transfer the files from Windows to Linux. You could try to use a VM to downgrade, but I didn't try this.
I tried to install every mod, but the game crashed when I started a new game. It worked when I just installed RemasteredGUI, SilentPatch, and Ginput. Another user also reported that 2dfx LOD mod doesn't work, so I would avoid downloading that. Some experimentation is required.
Heres the link to the downgrader, https://gtaforums.com/topic/927016-san-andreas-downgrader/
cd path/to/steamapps/common/Jet\ Set\ Radio/ && rm jsrsetup.exe && mv jetsetradio.exe jsrsetup.exe
If your hardware is good enough to run and is willing to overlook less performance then it is a good experience.
Proton-6.5-GE-2
I would have have the controller plugged in prior to launching the game or I would have to restart the game. Not a huge issue imo.
Windows 10 I get around 50-70 FPS given my hardware with similar settings. On Manjaro I get around 27-45 FPS with it averaging around 33 FPS.
Alt+Tabbing or switching workspaces crashes the game
Games runs great. However, there is no dialog which is the best part of this game. I would honestly avoid this game entirely regardless.
Wont boot and crashes instantly. Looked at the crash log and it's a D3D11 error. Tried PROTON_USE_WINED3D and PROTON_USE_WINED3D, Did not fix the issue.
To fix the game not launching use this launch option "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6 %command%".
can't alt+tab. The game will maximize itself when you try to do so.
To fix the game not launching use this launch option "LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6 %command%". I had to install the Steam runtime client to install some libraries that was missing.
Can't alt+tab. Game will maximize when you try to do so.
Launching the game I felt like I was stuck at "Loading. Please wait..." with no indication of the game actually loading and longer than usual. Just give it a minute or s
I feel like the frequent crashing can hamper the experience quite a bit for the typical person.
Lower FPS than on Windows, but lowering the settings made it more acceptable
After playing more than 3 hours on a single save file, the game would frequently crash.
Games performs fine, nothing serious other than the frequent crashing, but if someone can manage with that then it is a enjoyable experience.
Black Screen Pops Up
A black screen pops up with my mouse visible then shortly after it goes back to steam and the game closes.
Others have noted slight performance issues, but it is still definitely enjoyable. I get around 40-80 FPS, dips to 27-35 fps on Low
Proton-6.1-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Using GloriousEggroll that others suggested I was able to launch the game and start playing with decent performance. https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom#enabling
Was Platinum at first, OOB. Tried playing it again then models would pop in and out. Now the game wont even boot.
Models flicker in and out. Tried wined3d didn't fix the problem.
Had issues with the environment popping in and out. Just tested it with 4.11-7 and it fixed it.
Installed the unofficial patch posted by D1SoveR. Unofficial Patch: https://www.moddb.com/mods/vtmb-unofficial-patch
protontricks --command '"$WINE" [location of patch installer]' 2600
and then installed it in my steam game directory
low fps at points really tamper the experience
nothing major but in the beginning with the book is it missing the picture, but rest of what I played is intact. just a very minor issue if not one at all.
Inside building I got a solid 60fps. Some areas like outside I would get >10 fps.
