using borderless window fullscreen fixed this problem
the linux native version is outdated and runs pretty poorly, and multiplayer is unavailable. running through proton worked perfectly otherwise, even spending multiple hours on multiplayer without issue

No problems, but the game doesn't know the characteristics of your pc (not a problem)
Can't play with MacOS users, but I don't need to, I only had 1 friend with MacOS Ventura. You can create lobby!
connect to the same internet or connect a WLAN cable to the same router/pc

Runs natively with no issues on Linux Mint
Steam runs it by default with 'Steam Linux Runtime 1.0 (scout)'

Great game, runs lovely, controls are easy and battery lasts surprisingly long. Even the fan isn't deafening as opposed to playing on my mac
Disabled left trackpad. Switched bumpers with each other
TDP limit - 8W; Refresh rate locked at 40hz
Started the game in native Linux mode - frames were jumping around constantly. Proton 8.0-5 fixed it completely. Combined with low presets in game and TDP limit the game runs beautifully

can't get a full screen display w/ the original proton -> needs to be experimental
no cloud save

Runs great! Some text can be a little too small and controls are as good as they can be when playing on a portable PC.
LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libfreetype.so.6 gamemoderun %command%

The game has a native linux port. It runs very, very poorly. During the gathering storm AI benchmark on my hardware, once over 540 seconds had elapsed, I ran out of patience and ended the benchmark. During the course of the entire benchmark, the framerate was low and audio skipped and popped constantly.
The windows version via proton completed the benchmark in two minutes on my hardware, ran at a high framerate, and had zero audio issues. I personally use proton 8 based on other recommendations here, but I haven't tested others to see if they crash or anything.

The game doesn't work without Proton

Make sure to use Proton Hotfix to load up the Windows version of this game, it runs better and doesn't have any fullscreen issues.
My touchscreen monitor (Dell 24 Touch USB-C Hub Monitor - P2424HT) doesn't properly work. If touch input is enabled, the cursor freaks out whenever it is depressed. If disabled, units do not move to the location that is pressed, rather some other random tile.
2K accounts are not supported, not that they were worth keeping around anyway. However, if this game is run in DirectX 11, it thinks you are logged into an account that is not old enough to be able to play online. At least in DirectX 12 the game thinks you aren't logged in.

If reaching over 60Fps is needed, Borderless Window is enough for me.

The Windows version through Proton runs better than the linux native version
crashes after 2-3 hours of nonstop multiplayer, might also occur on windows
As mentioned above, infrequent crashes after multiple hours ingame; Also normal Civ 6 mulitplayer issues like 0ms ping and mods being a PITA still apply.
Works perfectly with the Proton version specified. Haven't tried other versions or tinkering methods.

had one situation were pettting the scouts pet reduced fps to 1 and I had to forcequit the game
had a few crashes with proton 9.0-4, switched to experimental which seemed to help

Switch to Proton
The native version runs fine except the Leader Pass and Julius Caesar are not available on Linux. Proton enables them to appear in the mod menu and work in game.
just crashed due to some c++ error

gamemoderun %command%
The game refuses to set refresh rate to anything above 144hz, will have to run without vsync if you use a monitor with anything higher; this in turn also causes issues with any games ran alongside it, as they will be vsynced down to ~60hz
stutters frequently, though that's due to the game's netcode rather than a wine issue. mods also work online without any tinkering required

The game's networking kinda sucks but this is unrelated to proton/linux.
If you want to use multiplayer, you must use proton and run the windows version of the game to play with friends running windows, there is no crossplay.

PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 gamemoderun %command%
Exclusivamente no multiplayer.
Multiplayer tinha um travamento horrível até eu adicionar PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1
, depois disso voltou ao normal.

Runs great. Since removal of 2K Launcher no need for launch param with LD_PRELOAD.

It runs smoothly on Steam flatpak, a native experience.
Just ran- no tweaks no issues.

You need to use proton if you want to play multiplayer with people that are using other OS
There is a *nix version available but its either older or non-compatible with the Windows version. Just use Proton if you want to play with your friends.

Officialy it should work native, but it worked in past, now it is broken and does not start without Proton.

eval $( echo "PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/Base\/Binaries\/Win64Steam\/CivilizationVI'/" )
Played with Proton as opposed to native because the native build is out of date and therefore doesn't work properly with multiplayer. Proton version works fine.
Using latest proton 9.0-4. Works great.

Once I switched to Proton 8.0.5 it worked just fine and I could connect with Windows users. (I recommend doing this if you are experiencing issues connecting with players running different OS)

game-performance %command%
Frequent stuttering. The game is still playable, but it's slightly annoying.
Rare crashes in multiplayer sessions.
Was able to play online with Windows users.
After playing in multiplayer with Windows users for an extended period of time, I experienced frequent but bearable stuttering and one game crash that froze up my system and took some effort to resolve. No other issues.
Experienced frequent hangs until I switched to the official open source NVIDIA driver. It's been working fine since then.

They just removed the launcher finally! It now works perfectly with proton and even DX12 option!
gamemoderun mangohud %command%
2K finally caved in on the backlash and removed that stupid launcher nobody asked for or wanted, and now the game runs flawlessly on proton! No need for overly verbose launch commands anymore!

Frequent hangs.

Steam overlay seems broken
While there is native support, you can't use it in multiplayer with Windows users. The game seems to run fine on proton, but the steam overlay doesn't appear to work. gamemoderun
is basically a requirement on my system, the game was locked at ~20fps without it. This reddit thread also provides useful context if you run into the game crashing on startup.

Plays for a while, then freezes. You can load a game but its not much time u can play until it breaks
It's probably laptop jank, but it's literally unplayable on my machine. Worked fine for me before they removed the launcher. Have to go on my windows partition to enjoy it. Tried all protons and uninstall/reinstall, but it still hasnt resolved even after multiple updates of my drivers over many months. No one else as far as I could see has this issue, but this is just to raise awareness.

The linux naitive version hasnt been updated in a long time so you have to switch to the proton version. There is also an issue where it thinks you are too young to play multiplayer but a reinstall fixes it
Use the proton version instead of the naitive port

game installes and opens normally. but it crashes(firaxis crashed) on native, proton ge, proton exp. and 9. it runs smoothly on proton 6.3-8
game installes and opens but crashes after trying to start a game.
