Minor flickering and weird draw distance but i'm not sure if it's actually any different from Windows as it didn't even boot up in Windows for me.
Use Dx9. DX10 seemingly has a 60fps cap but both worked out of the box for me.
i can play very well

Everything seems to work once you sort out the registration issues but that's quite a nightmare to do.
You need to edit the registry files to get the game to work. This is an issue on Windows too. Serial key registration is not working properly.
Doesn't allow you to get to the main menu without registry editing.
I didn't manage to play with people as it's a old game with empty servers but it seemed to work solo.
To get the game to run you need to go into home/.local/steam/steamapps/compatdata/7520/pfx/ in desktop mode and edit the registry files there, which one you need to edit depends on the method. There's two methods you can use to get the game working, the first is a lot easier but means the online doesn't work. The second is more annoying as it requires a windows PC but you can unlock the full game, online included.
The first method is the one others have mentioned
- Add "VersionD"=dword:00000001 under [Software\Wow6432Node\Reality Pump\TwoWorlds2\Installer] in home/.local/steam/steamapps/compatdata/7520/pfx/system.reg which allows you to play the game but if you try clicking network it'll tell you it's the demo mode.
The second method gets online working but involves you doing the following:
- Install the game on a windows PC from your steam account
- Download the Two Worlds 2 2.05 patch off the internet to the game drive you installed the game on and install it.
- Launch the game, when it asks insert your serial keys for the main game and the dlc(if you own it), make sure you untick register now and click internet activation for both, when it's activated and you're at the main menu you can shut the game.
- Use regedit to export(File > Export) the registry keys from [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Reality Pump\TwoWorlds2\SerialKey].
- Copy that exported file over to your Steam Deck
- Open it on the Steam Deck, copy the entries under [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Reality Pump\TwoWorlds2\SerialKey] (ie RegistrationKey/SerialKey etc) into home/.local/steam/steamapps/compatdata/7520/pfx/user.reg under [Software\Reality Pump\TwoWorlds2\SerialKey] and save.
Following that you should be able to launch the game, untick register game, and click internet activation and it should be activated. Now you can play online.

Steps to get around the registration key nuisance:
- in steam desktop mode go to Home/.local/share/steam/steamapps/compatdata/7520/pfx
- open system.reg in text editor
- search for ... reality pump\twoworlds2\installer
- below "SMTree"=.... Add a new line: "VersionD"=dword:00000001
- save
- run from steam OS
Need to add a registry key of type DWORD in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Reality Pump\TwoWorlds2\Installer
. Name it VersionD
and set it's value to 1. Can be done using wines built in regedit in the games prefix

The regedit fix is not proton specific. The game seems to have been review bombed because of it

protontricks 7520 regedit

Native version crashes. Dx9 version works perfect out of the box with very high performance.
Runs using Directx9, Proton 4.2-9. Native doesn't work at all.
Worked fine except for videos and gamepad inventory control
Using Logitech F310 in XInput mode the inventory controls are a bit wonky, whether using the analog stick or D-Pad, pushing to the right always moved the inventory cursor two squares to the right (skipping every other column of items) requiring pushing back and forth to get to the desired items (2 steps forward, one step back).
HD Videos need to be turned off in graphics settings to play (they are just skipped otherwise). This was tested in both official 5.0-9 and 5.11-GE-2-MF
Satisfying results, even on older hardware
Setup & Performance:
- Would not run using latest Proton (v5.0-7)
- 4.2-9 worked like a charm (so long as I selected DirectX 9)
- Performance was highly adequate on budget hardware from 2014
- Slightly worse performance in outdoor areas, but that's to be expected
- Tweaking settings like grass draw distance made a noticeable difference
Review:
- Played for about 3 hours, happy overall, plan on continuing
- Feels like a B-movie version of The Witcher, which I find charming
- Does some interesting things to set itself apart, particularly with regards to the magic system, and offers skill trees for multiple play styles
- Hilariously bad/"videogamey" (in a good way) voice acting, sound effects
- Highly recommended for relatively simple, cheesy fun
Comments & Recommendations:
- You may have to disable the "HD Videos" setting in order to see cutscenes (I did not test with it enabled)
- Turn the bloom effect WAY down or disable it completely unless you want everything in the game to be shiny as hell
- The game seems to add a blur effect on the horizon and in backgrounds during dialogue scenes; I think this is by design and wasn't able to find a way to change it in the settings, however it didn't bother me too much
Please Note: ProtonDB displays my GPU as "AMD HAWAII", but more specifically it is a Radeon R9 290.
Excellente jouabilité. Aucun problème mineur rencontré.

Installed it and played it. No tweaking was required and I encountered no issues.

The first run wasn't so good. Having my gamepad plugged in broke keyboard + mouse input. Since the game wanted me to enter my product keys, I had no choice but to alt-tab out, kill the game, and start it with my gamepad unplugged. But the game then recognized all of my keys without me needing to enter them. In short, don't run this with a gamepad plugged in unless you're intending to use it. I'm not factoring these gamepad fumbles into my rating since I have no way of knowing if this is an issue with Proton or the game.
Both DX9 and DX10 modes played without any noticeable rendering issues. Audio crackling was easily resolved by putting 'PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 %command%' in the launch options. Cutscenes won't play by default since they're WMV format, but if you go into the 'Graphics' settings and switch 'HD Video' to 'Off', the game will play OGG versions instead.

DX9 works fine, DX11 wont launch. Work like charm. No issues, graphic ok and performance very good.

Run only in DX9 mode. DX11 won't launch. Game works like charm. Performance is very good, no graphics issue, no other problems. Rating 10/10 in Proton.

Works fine after enabled ""Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" in the steam game settings.

Must select "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" else it will install a defunt native version and will not run.
Runs perfectly using DX9 version (from the launcher). All other versions do not work.

The option to "Force the use of a specific Steam Play compatibility tool" must be selected. Tested the game with Proton 3.16-6 Beta. The game ran perfectly under DirectX9, the option must be chosen from the game launcher. Did not test DirectX11 yet (from past experience this does not work under normal wine). Did not play the single player storyline but played approximately 2 hours in the multiplayer session and nearly completed two chapters without any crashes, slowdowns etc. The game ran flawlessly under Proton and DirectX9.

The game does not launch via Steamplay. Steamplay thinks there is a native build and downloads a borked linux builld without a windows executable. The game does not have a working native linux version. When I enable Steamplay for whitelisted games only, Steam states the game is not available on my platform. When I enable steamplay for all my titles it does not state Two Worlds II will run via steamplay but natively. This game runs fine with system wine and directx9. I suspect the quickest solution would be for Valve to disable the borked linux build.

only dx9

An error occurred while updating Two Worlds II (missing executable) : /steam/steamapps/common/Two Worlds II/TwoWorlds2_DX10.exe. Comparing the directory versus my wine install the relevant game exe's aren't copied into the main "Tow Worlds II" folder. The game runs completely stable under a default wine and Steam install.

only DX9 version works, and only after "winetricks physx"

Only dx9 version launched. But i can see the logo and game crash

Crashes on start due to missing dlls

Crash when starting the main version. DirectX9 version works well.
