Missing backgrounds, but otherwise works well
Main menu and in-game backgrounds appear to be animated videos that the game is drawn on. log has a large number of gstreamer "failed to load plugin" errors so it may just be a codec issue.
Opens black window
PROTON_LOG shows some issue loading textures with 18935.288:0036:0037:fixme:d3dx:D3DX11CreateTextureFromFileW device 0666C060, filename L"Application/Data/Tex/ToonTex.png", load_info 00000000, pump 00000000, texture 0032EC14, hresult 0032EC18 stub.
Throws XNA exception at startup
Error loading music apparently, Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentLoadException in Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.SongReader.Read in AmazingPrincessSarah.MSound.LoadMusic (bunch of intermediate steps skipped).
Start in full screen and it works fine
Alt+Enter to toggle fullscreen caused graphical issues, starting in fullscreen is fine
Native ver appears to depend on obsolete libs, windows version runs fine (as well as it does on windows)
"No DirectX" error
PROTON_LOG shows vulkan error X11DRV_vkCreateWin32SurfaceKHR Application requires child window rendering, which is not implemented yet, possibly tied to https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45277
Works fine
In-game remapping accepted my buttons when I pressed A and X, but the actual game was played with B and Y on my F310 in legacy DirectInput mode
Game works well despite lower quality graphics
Fullscreen works (must toggle in options screen) but "high definition" mode shows an error that the page is not allowing the game to play. PROTON_LOG shows the warning 18935.288:0036:0037:fixme:d3dx:D3DX11CreateTextureFromFileW device 0666C060, filename L"Application/Data/Tex/ToonTex.png", load_info 00000000, pump 00000000, texture 0032EC14, hresult 0032EC18 stub. just prior to a SharpDX exception in SharpDX.Direct3D11.D3DX11.CreateTextureFromFile.
D3D flag shows backgrounds in main menu and reduced crashing in cutscenes
Black screen without WINED3D
Choosing fullscreen in options just kept the largest window size
Could not configure F310 gamepad in either legacy/DI or Xbox mode.
Immediate crash
Null pointer dereference. wine: Unhandled page fault on read access to 00000000 at address 00000000 (thread 0066), starting debugger...
Black screen while fullscreen, alt-enter back to window fixed it
Disabling shadow emboss did not seem to be necessary.
Total lack of audio. Try Linux native beta using "maclinuxtest" beta code
Silent. No BGM or SFX
Alt+Enter to toggle fullscreen caused blinking and random textures in background graphics
Works well with xbox controller
Menu screen is partly off the monitor to the right, but once the game begins the game window is correctly centered in fullscreen.
Alt+Enter to toggle fullscreen makes the screen black
Only XInput/Xbox controllers properly supported, legacy controllers do not have the buttons mapped correctly and the game does not offer remapping.
No issues running the game with Proton 9.0-3. No option in settings for windowed mode but alt-enter toggled fine
Alt+enter to toggle fullscreen caused fruit sprites to change icons and/or become invisible
Works well despite the streaks around the letters in game.
Glitches around edges of the comic font characters, still readable
Worked out of the box
Played with Logitech F310 in XInput mode. Gameplay seemed a little floaty for a platformer but animations etc weren't lagging so I guess this was intentional.
Game softlocks when Millenia uses Zap on Ryudo even with the config.ini setting run_battles_at_max_fps = OFF
If the config tricks people have posted for fixing the Zap lock don't work for you, hopefully you can get a save game from after the opening.
White screen for a second then page fault
page fault on read access to 0x00000010 in 32-bit code
Crashes at press space to continue
seems to be a null pointer dereference somewhere
Doesn't start
Not much useful in PROTON_LOG, some internal exception is thrown and not caught after "Installing plugin: Cg Program Manager" "Plugin successfully installed".
Does not start due to ContentLoadException in Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Media.Video
Intro video unsupported
Playing in 4k monitor and switching to 1080p windowed mode resulted in a full-screen window with the game offset from the left/bottom of the window. Shrinking window cut off video
Nearly all of the status screens are garbled and font corruption gets worse while playing
Fonts garbled
PROTON_LOG reveals a large number of "not a jpeg" and interlaced png messages that I suspect are related to the game's attempt to use its own font.
Game immediately crashes with a null pointer dereference in Proton 5.0-3 (page fault on read access to 0x00000000).
Works out of the box. F310 in XInput mode works flawlessly once enabled in the settings.
Playing at 4K both windowed and full screen works great with AA off and all other settings at max. F310 gamepad in XInput mode works great.
After about 4 hours of uninterrupted play the audio begins to echo on ~200ms repeat causing static sound as bgm, sfx and ui dings stack up on each other. Returning to main menu doesn't fix this must exit game.
4x or above AA on proton 5.13 caused graphical glitches, ok (other than speed) on 3.7
Enabling AA causes significant slowdown
Game defaults to Proton 3.7-8, only issues I had forcing 5.13-2 was graphical glitches when trying to set AA to x4 or x8, both caused weird moire patterns but could still see well enough to turn it back off.
When it works, it works until it stops working. Build a savepoint and use it frequently.
Trees tend to have white static on the branches at a certain distance away
Stability improved significantly with the living ship update but there are still a lot of zendesk crashes leading to lost progress.
Black screen when full-screened with alt+enter, switching back to windowed mode restored display
Does not start
Fatal exception Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Content.ContentLoadException in console
Only runs a couple of minutes at a time before crashing.
Crashes every few minutes due to resource usage. PROTON_LOG reveals errors like "memory allocation of 8388608 bytes failed" or "GStreamer-WARNING **: 19:13:13.132: failed to create thread: Error creating thread: Resource temporarily unavailable"
Use -safe or choose "Launch in safe mode" for audio
Needs safe mode to play audio
Full screen was blurrier than window x# magnification options and had glitched graphics outside of the square window the game was played in
F310 in both legacy DI and XBox modes caused the game to continuously push up while playing, and the options screen would not allow mapping the DPad in either analog mode. Mapping the directions to the X/Y/A/B buttons did not prevent the game from continuously pushing up either. Even after unplugging the gamepad, it required restarting the game to restore proper keyboard control
Black screen (but game is running and playing) without this flag.
Fullscreen in options causes black screen until turned back off
Game works out of the box, adding your own music is tricky.
Need to copy or symlink your music folders into ".steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/38900/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Music/" in order be able to add your own music to the library.
Linux version had graphical glitches, windows version played perfectly fine in Proton 5.13 with Logitech F310 gamepad in XInput mode.
Works well
Game only runs in fullscreen, Alt+Enter would shrink then immediately return to full screen.
Works well
Game doesn't stretch to widescreen screens in full screen mode, but also isn't centered. Doesn't affect gameplay, just a little odd.
Works ok after fixing full screen
Game started in fullscreen mode but appeared as window in corner of screen showing top right corner of game. Had to navigate through menus using steam screenshots to disable full screen mode. Once disabled played fine, but could not change window size.
Menus did not always respond to gamepad movements. From discussion posts it seems input was laggy even in Windows.
PROTON_LOG did not reveal anything about resolution/full screen issue, but console logs ERROR:frame_sink_video_capturer_impl.cc(197)] Invalid resolutions constraints: 0x0 must not be greater than 0x0; and also within media::limits when the game starts up
Works well other than unity mapping analog axes as flight controls. Use the digital pad for movement.
Game uses unity's launcher for control mapping. Default mapping has some nonzero axis mapped to the camera controls so camera constantly spins. Attempting to map analog controls this way results in the vertical axis being inverted (would be flight controls, except we're not playing a flying game so pushing up on the analog stick causes you to move towards the camera instead of forward. Unity's mapping utility also constantly swapped between joystick 1 and joystick 2 when pressing motion controls. The #2 controls for horiz/vert are the camera axis.
Final mapping that worked well: Horizontal: Joystick 2 Axis 0, Vertical: J2 Ax1, Horiz2: J2 Ax3, Vert2: J2 Ax4, this uses the digital pad on either xbox or legacy controllers for movement and right analog for camera control.
Game starts in window but freezes on loading screen with about 1/10th of the bar loaded.
PROTON_LOG indicates that it is stuck in some sort of deadlock: 324505.289:00c0:00d4:err:ntdll:RtlpWaitForCriticalSection section 0x7b063140 "../../../../proton/wine/dlls/kernelbase/locale.c: locale_section" wait timed out in thread 00d4, blocked by 00c8, retrying (60 sec)
Game throws exception and crashes once you reach the menu
Needed to run protontricks 105700 xna31
to repair incorrectly installed XNA and allow game to even launch.
No errors installing but game never opens
Console has a file not found error for Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game, Version=3.1.0.0 or a dependency
Doesn't start
Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Game, Version=3.1.0.0 file/dependency not found. Tried protontricks 42000 xna31
to install XNA, game now immediately stops with an "exception that could not be handled"
Mostly ok except for backgrounds
Opening background did not load, log had a number of gstreamer plugin errors so possible a video codec issue.
This is the Japanese version of 99 spirits, in order to get the Japanese fonts to load correctly, you need to generate a locale for ja_JP.UTF-8
(uncomment that line in /etc/locale.gen
and run locale-gen
or your distribution's equivalent.) then you will need to set the launch options to LANG=ja_JP.UTF-8 %command%
Using options menu to switch to fullscreen caused glitches until restarting, worked fine after restarting in fullscreen.
Worked fine except for videos and gamepad inventory control
Using Logitech F310 in XInput mode the inventory controls are a bit wonky, whether using the analog stick or D-Pad, pushing to the right always moved the inventory cursor two squares to the right (skipping every other column of items) requiring pushing back and forth to get to the desired items (2 steps forward, one step back).
HD Videos need to be turned off in graphics settings to play (they are just skipped otherwise). This was tested in both official 5.0-9 and 5.11-GE-2-MF
Needed to disable steam overlay to stop the game from hanging during startup and loading the steam overlay according to the proton log.
Worked previously but no longer launches at all
Tried several versions of proton including 5.x from previously. zero logs from the game with LOG_PROTON enabled in startup - just launch info from proton and then the file ends.
Game throws an exception then runs an infinite loop resetting D3D without WINED3D
Game required selecting a window size from the menu to actually show the screen, possibly from bad configuration saved during initial play attempt with D3D resetting.
Still auto-minimizes
After the first couple of splash screens it minimizes itself even with alt tabbing or clicking the window on the taskbar
Works other than the video cutscenes.
As other reviewer noted, videos will pop up an error dialog. Choosing "Cancel" will close the game.
Game itself works well out of the box, add cinepak and directshow to get the in-game movies to work too
Cutscene videos will play with protontricks 223810 cinepak directshow
Cutscene videos will play with protontricks 223870 cinepak directshow
All graphics and logos are loaded as white rectangles
