Works good
Played with Proton 9.0-4.
Game is starting slowly but than everything works normal.

Couldn't get into installed mod screen
Except mod screen game plays without issues on Glorious Eggroll for me
Had to use launch options to get around the 2K Launcher but otherwise working as expected
bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries\/Win64\/xcom.exe}" -allowconsole -autodebug' -- %command%

Was able to get it to boot. Could not autodetect resolution and wouldn't respond to mouse clicks.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Might be able to fix by editing some configuration files.
Reduced graphics settings.
Certain text is very small and there's no scale setting in-game. I've heard you can increase UI scale via .ini edits but haven't tried myself -- it's only an occasional issue.
Controller support is spotty in that it's missing a few UI elements from XCOM 2; most notably, during combat there's no icon highlights for your selected action. You just have to read the tooltip display and infer the cursor's position along the row of actions.
Aside from that small gripe, it's a great fit for SD!

Its a fun little game, even if its a bit unbalanced. If you want more xcom 2 with a twist, then look no further.

bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries\/Win64\/xcom.exe}" -allowconsole -autodebug' -- %command%
Works out of the box with Proton 7.0 and Proton Experimental
bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries\/Win64\/xcom.exe}" -allowconsole -autodebug' -- %command%
No different than running the game in native Windows
No different than running the game in native Windows
Works 100% after adding a custom %command% to bypass the 2K Launcher: bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries/Win64/xcom.exe}" -allowconsole -autodebug' -- %command%
Completed a full playthrough of the game
On the first boot of the game the 2K Launcher reported that "something went wrong" and refused to start the game, but after re-launching it, this issue never reoccurred.
No issues found

Only Proton-GE worked for me. Proton 7.0 would launch the 2K launcher but would bug out and say there was an error. Launch option so it is forced to run on my dedicated GPU.

cap to 40 fps

Does not work with Proton 7.0.2 for me
The problem still persists for me even after the newest release
Previously game wouldn't work due to 2k launcher stealing focus on Steam Deck. After a late 4/22 Steam Deck update, the problem is fixed.

Steam Deck. I have tried 5+ older versions of Proton. Proton 6.3-8 seems like it works right up until the main game menu loads, then the 2k launcher pops back on top. I have tried the command line option shown in the earlier comments to skip the launcher, but this prevents the game from loading at all with an instant crash back to steam.
It doesn't run amazingly, but it doesn't get in the way of gameplay too much.
It can be very slow, especally on start up. Get's better in game, but is still pretty laggy at times.
It's mostly on the staring menu, and during some more animated scenes, but once in game it gets a lot better. I still enjoy playing it though.
Game works perfectly out of the box.
I played the entire campaign with 2560x1440 60fps. Everything works without any problems, including video/cutscenes and the achievements.
I tried every version of Proton, none of them worked

Works good. Loading at the beginning of game is slow, missions load normal.
Played with Proton 6.3-8.

My play session was brief. I only ran the tutorial mission. The game seems to play properly.
There is a corrupted save from a previous play session on Windows 10 that can not be deleted. This is possibly a but with the game; not with linux.
Does not even start
It immediately crashes with no feedback -- I can't even get to the 2k launcher.
Couldn't get past 2k launcher

Game freezes at main menu, Proton v6.3-7
Game will load up to the main menu, of which a popup will briefly show up stating something like "Loading Profile and Settings", popup will close, and then game will freeze (sound will continue to play).
Tried with skipping the 2k launcher, and without
Took a little longer to load after the 2K launcher, but worked flawlessly out of the box
The game gets stuck at 2k launcher. I can click play but it wont start
Runs out of the box now, with Proton 6.3-5. No adjustments needed.
Take note that previous reports tells the game only runs without the 2K launcher, but this is in the past, now everything works. However, I feel that it is important to mention the option to skip the launcher as a "comfort" option. Go to the game properties, and in the "General" tab, use these launch options, exactly as written: bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries/Win64/xcom.exe}"' -- %command%

Had to set Proton to ver 5.0-10 and set the fix in the launch options:
bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries\/Win64\/xcom.exe}"' -- %command%
Game works fine again using Proton 6.3.9 including launcher. The launcher still does not work using 6.10-GE-1.
2k launcher issue solved, game just works now without tweaks

By clicking "Play" in Steam the game doesn't start directly, it's starting the 2K launcher. But the launcher doesn't work (anymore). You have to bypass it by adding the following command in the game launch options: bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries/Win64/xcom.exe}"' -- %command%
Game didn't work for me with Proton 5.13-4, 5.13-6 or Proton 6.3-2
As have already been told here, you need to skip the 2K Launcher with the following launch options: bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries/Win64/xcom.exe}"' -- %command% -- Once you do that, game starts successfully. Tested with Proton 6.3-2, you don't need Proton 5.0-10 for the game to work now.
Bypassed the 2K launcher as explained by KiasuBurger.

With the latest update, they have introduced some silly 2K launcher, that doesn't work OOTB (at least not with Proton 5.0-10 which is still required by the game). To bypass the launcher without fiddling with files on disk, you can use
bash -c 'exec "${@/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe/Binaries\/Win64\/xcom.exe}"' -- %command%
to replace the launch command.
Using Glorious Eggroll 6.5-GE-1 the game runs smoothly and audio seems to be on the spot.
Windowed borderless does not allow the mouse to escape the monitor the game is running on, but it can be moved out when using ALT-TAB
