By bypassing the launcher, and waiting through "black" splash screens I ware able to play the game.
backup dowser.exe and rename AoWFP.exe into dowser.exe
The game works slowly on my configuration, hard to say if this is Linux fault or original game.

Like others said, support and news screens are not working, everything else works without problems.
Quite demanding for graphic card, I had to lover the settings. I have no idea are those basic requirements or Proton makes them larger.
You need a gamepad/controller to fully enjoy the game. Flying with keyboard is not fun.
Plays out of the box with Eggroll version without any major issues.
Works like in Windows, except I have missed few words in dialogues.

Using no launcher selection and "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" as steam launch option allowed me to see the introduction and after waiting for some time I ware able to get to the menu. I ware able to load the tavern, but after selecting mission game froze in black screen. Tried both Proton 4 and 5.
Couldn't get into installed mod screen
Except mod screen game plays without issues on Glorious Eggroll for me
