Starts good
Played with Proton 8.0-5.
Unless you already own it, don't buy it just because it works well on Deck. I feel like the majority of players wouldn't complete the game even if it was free
Finished game with xbox one controller
When "cold starting" the game and loading a save from later areas, everything would be black. Fixed by first starting a new game or loading a save from an early area and then loading the later save again
Works perfectly well now
tested with xbox360 controller
OOTB no issues

OOTB and good performance with D9VK: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kn2KiYovZLs and OpenGL: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wCThGviT8v4

Game is finally in a playable state with Proton's adoption of D9VK. Some graphical problems remain if the detail level slider is on anything but the lowest setting.

Lot of graphics problems

Accumulating graphical errors eventually make the game unplayable as noted by other reports. But after installing D9VK to the game's prefix, it's now playable through Proton. There are some visual bugs if the detail slider is set to the highest option, which is almost certainly because D9VK is still in its infancy. I tested up until a little after the first checkpoint.

Graphical problems.

According to steam overlay fps counter, game renders at solid 60fps but in reality frame rate is quite low and game is very sluggish. There's some graphical issue too, which look like light coming behind "seams" of textures/object models which stay on screen as half transparent "overlay". I did not try disabling esync or with wine d3d.

Has a bright overlay that covers parts of screen in game. Otherwise would have been platinum

runs smoothly , but grafics get weird as you play
