needed to disable adaptive sync in kde settings.
runs perfectly. not suprising for modern hardware though lol.

It's very old game but it runs as on windows.
I recommend to install some mods and tinker in files to made it open in modern resolution, it's all in steam's guides :)

Worked out ot the box, just tuned the volume and started playing.

Does not work on Proton greater than version 7.0-6 - complains about spooge. Works with no other tinkering.
Cloud saves and profile works as well. Multiplayer lobby works, not enough players to try a game. Campaign works, cutscenes work, haven't noticed mouse flickering mentioned in other reviews. Sound is a bit tinny but that might be my pipewire setup or just being an old game. Using highest settings for everything

Had some issues to Steam Cloud, don't think it's proton related. Cloud restores saves but not full profile, so game can't start with partial profile, if you already played the game and have saves in cloud.
- Go to game's properties in steam.
- Disable steam cloud
- move dreaded Profile 1 dir somewhere else
- launch game
- create profile
- exit game
- copy your saves back to newly created profile
- launch game to verify all works.
- enable steam cloud back
Steam cloud glitched. Not linux related. Is fixable.
Was able to see lobby, and strangely saw 7 people ther. Didn't try starting a game.
Steam cloud is bit glitched, but it is fixable and then works flawlesly.
Works as expected with no specific tweak. Keyboard shortcuts are obviously missed by the Deck physical layout but playability is like on PC.
Flickering mousepointer when moving it around

First tried using Proton 8.0 (most recent at the moment) but the game failed to launch (some error message about "spooge"). Saw others suggest 5.0 here so I tried that next and it worked flawlessly.
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia %command%
I couldn't create a new profile, when I click create nothing happens. Had to turn off the Steam sync save files for this game and delete content from folder profiles to be able to create a profile and start playing.
With these adjustments, I was able to make the campaign run smoothly with good sound and visuals.
WINEPREFIX=$STEAM_LIBRARY/steamapps/compatdata/9450/pfx
Without tinkering, (without doing the wine setting as well as using the older proton's 5.10 version) I found this game to be unplayable. It would play through the starting movie, and then instantly crash.
Run's Well and stable.. no problem.
Just some framdrops especially if there is too much object in your screen.

Crashes after Intro movie. Tried all versions of proton down to version 5
Couldn't get it to work past the intro screen. Tried all versions of proton down to version 5. Also, intro movie sound was choppy.
Works grate , gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lK9EtX6KhV0&t=506s
Works without issues for me, no hacks required

Starting with version 5.13, 6.3 or higher, the game significantly decreases performance during gameplay. With version 5.0 or lower, it is perfect
The bug when loading a game and thus losing the music seems to be a problem with the game and not with proton or wine.
In my case, on one occasion my game froze.
Runs great on Proton 5.13-6
Worked perfectly
Works perfectly out of the box. No tweak or customization required on my config
Works very well.
I could only select max 1600x1200 resolution. But could be a game limitation.
Runs great with Proton 4.13. Flickering cursor can be fixed by editing a txt file in the game folder as described below.
Flickering cursor out of the box. I had to change allowhwcursor from 1 to 0 in Drivers/spdx9_config.txt file.
Game appears to run fine using Proton 4.11-13
Runs like a charm, CPU runs hot in windowed mode.. single core operation. Otherwise a great RTS that looks and sounds ahead of it's time

Works great! But, I needed to go to the Steam's settings -> "Steam Play" -> "Advanced" -> "Enable Steam Play for all other titles".
Every now and then DoW will not play certain audio sounds, such as clicking on a building/unit and a short audio clip is supposed to play. However, I've played DoW on Windows 10 and it also has this issue from time-to-time. So, I'm just reporting this as I don't think it is a Linux issue, but rather a general bug in the game. The fix is to just start a new game (you don't need to restart the game client).
One of the games I tried playing had weird textures on the world environment. But, I just started a new game and it worked like a charm!
Considering the age of the game, it's quite an easy fix to get the game running where its playable.
Since the game only supports 4:3 scale resolutions, I had to change my default resolution settings to the highest 4:3 scale resolution supported by my display (for me this was: 1400x1050). After doing this all issues were resolved.
The game doesn't seem to run properly on Proton 5.0-7 (age most likely), but runs perfectly on 4.11-13.
Without changing any resolution settings, the game will open in a sort of "theater mode" fullscreen. This causes some issues with the panning of the camera in-game where it continues to pan if you move into the black blocks and only stops once you move back over the gameplay.
In addition I also noticed that the mini-map was overlapping with its own edges, making you unable to click on certain parts of the map and will have to pan to those parts.
Works great with Proton 4.11-12.

It just works out of box. The problems it has mostly come from being OLD and would happen on windows anyway.
It's an old game that only supports 4:3 resolutions. To run on window you have to use an external tool to set it up. Can't change ingame.
Occasionally, especially when tabbing out of the game window, the mouse boundaries would get out of whack, resulting in constant mouse scrolling or mouse scroll not working.
Crashed just once in my two sessions. GUI started bugging up, then the game froze.
Runs good with Proton, wouldn't recommend buying the game tho. It's mediocre
Can't use the windows resolution community fix
When using the mouse to navigate along the map it sometimes keeps scrolling even after the mouse is not at the edge anymore
Great game and works like a charm under linux.

Played a few campaign missions and skirmish matches. No issues entering the CD-Key from the pop-up. No performance issues except for a stutter when the game auto-saves (I think this happens on Windows as well). Only issue I have noticed is occasionally the mouse cursor flickers slightly.

Runs perfectly except for the mouse cursor being almost impossible to see. Cursor tends to flicker almost constantly making it hard to see in game.

Had no issues playing the game

Working perfectly out of the box.
