I think it is a wayland problem and you must do a trick to play the game properly otherwise will crash before the start screen.
Just join the multiplayer room and play.
Important issue that some might have on wayland I think. When you start the game keep steam window open on library and pay atention to the game status while launching, when it changes from "Launching" to "Running" you can close the steam window. Not doing that or launching straight from the task bar will make the game crash on launch for some reason.
The ARPG in the market currently, no other comes closer without any question. That is the absolute fact.
Sometimes textures don't render properly
My hardware is 11 years old so that much is expected.
After starting the game for the first time go on the graphic settings and change to vulkan. Restart the game and tune the other settings to your taste and start playing.

The first time I loaded an old save before I used the proton fork it stuck in the loading screen, it solved when I created a new game.
We need a way to play games with anticheat, I'm tired of having a windows partition just for some games.

At random times some transmissions from the npcs freeze the game for about 1-3 seconds.
If my xbox360 controller is not plugged in, the game runs with 35-45 fps.
Sometimes my vram usage keeps going up in the game viewer
If the xbox 360 controller is not plugged the fps drops.
Worked out ot the box, just tuned the volume and started playing.

That fixed all the texture/shader issues and made it work flawlessly.
For vsync go to the prefix folder: 56400/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Dawn of War II - Retribution/Settings/ There edit the configuration.lua file and change the Vsyinc line from 0 to 1. On the playercfg.lua file you can change the profanity filter to false if you prefer.
My hardware is old so that is why.
Works out of the box in proton experimental and I tried on Proton GE 9-7 as well to check if had performance differences and both preformed the same. No issues nstalling or playing.
