Starts good
Played with Proton 9.0-4.

Runs out of the box
Out of the box, in fullscreen with 1024x768x32bit works perfectly, 120 fps no problem. Due to upscaling in fullscreen, fonts and graphic is fine as well.
Only issue I had is when tabbing out of the game it freezes the whole desktop.
Switching to a tty and killing it (e.g. pkill DungeonSiege.ex
) gives back control.

Works out of the box, no tinkering or launch paraming needed!
I was so curious by seeing others screwing with dgvoodoo and all that. I just installed, hit play and started playing, no huss or fuss. Sure, the resolution is natively 1024x768, but believe me, its scaled to your screen, and it totally gives to the retro experience. Everything is readable, perfectly sharp. If you want to make your life harder, then you can start playing around and tweaking.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n" %command% bltonly=true nointro=true width=960 height=540
If you want to play this game in high resolution with a readable UI, you have to use dgVoodoo2.
The latest version didn't work for me (I got an error), so I downloaded dgVoodoo2_6, which did the trick. Extract *.dll files from MS/x86 and dgVoodooCpl.exe and dgVoodoo.conf. Run dgVoodooCpl.exe and in the DirectX tab set the resolution of your monitor or a scaling factor. There is a Steam guide with more details. Then in launch options, set the resolution of the UI you want to see. For me, I set the game to 960×540 so it would be ×2 on my 1080p monitor.

width=2560 height=1440 bpp=32 nointro=true
Game seems to be locked at 35 fps or so
An error shows up when loading a game, saying that the resolution is not supported, clicking "OK" makes the game continue just fine.

Wanna have bigger text and not have to bother with installing some fan patch? Use the launch options I provided instead.
nointro=true fullscreen=false width=640 height=480
In regards to the launch options being "width=1280 height=800"; People keep complaining about small text on the steam deck and having to install a patch being the only fix when using those launch options. With no offense intended towards anyone they don't seem to realize that the solution is staring them in the face.
Solution:
Use "width=640 height=480" instead of "width=1280 height=800". Set the launch options as such and you won't have any issues reading the ui.
nointro=true width=1920 height=1080 bp=32 fullscreen=false Zonematch=true dpnsvr=false
Install directplay (I used protontricks) if you want to play multiplayer.
Breaks if you tab out or modify window resolution in any way outside of the game's options.
nointro=true width=1920 height=1080 bp=32 fullscreen=false Zonematch=true dpnsvr=false
Multiplayer did not work whatsoever without DirectPlay installed
Breaks if you tab out.
text maybe difficult to read, would advise playing this on docked mode with a monitor
make sure to check the guide legend of aranna for how to install the extension and the latest patche

width=1920 height=1080 bpp=32 nointro=true
You'll get a notice about unsupported color depth which you can just ignore / hit ok to. Works fine after.
You can view the intro video with nointro=false fullscreen=false
nointro=true width=1280 height=800 fullscreen=false
nointro=true width=1280 height=800 fullscreen=false
Quite small text
Played it when younger, doesn't translate well to current tastes. Worked fine with controls I used but was awkward. Use a keyboard and mouse instead if you must play.
On 16:9 the launch options should be just fine, I used gamescope to take the 2560x1080 game in window and upscale it to 3440x1440.
game_compat=/smb_shares/bignas/wd18tb/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/39190/
game_dir="/smb_shares/bignas/wd18tb/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Dungeon Siege 1"
STEAM_COMPAT_CLIENT_INSTALL_PATH=${game_compat} STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH=${game_compat} WINEPREFIX=${game_compat}\pfx gamescope -w 3440 -h 1440 -W 2560 -H 1080 -- mangohud ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Proton\ 7.0/proton run ${game_dir}/DungeonSiege.exe nointro=true width=2560 height=1080 fullscreen=false
In order to run the game in 21:9 widescreen or any other high-res fullscreen must be false, otherwise, the menu renders all weird, it's locked to 1024x768 it seems, gamescope fixes all of this
With 16:9 running nointro=true width=1920 height=1080 fullscreen=false or higher res is just fine. When using i3 or other tilling wm, menu must be in windowed.
try nointro=true width=1280 height=800 fullscreen=false as Starting Options to get Fullscreen
nointro=true width=1280 height=800 fullscreen=false
Cap Fps to 30 to preserve Battery
nointro=true width=1280 height=800 fullscreen=false
Half of the screen is black when in full screen. Windowed at full resolution (essentially borderless fullscreen) is OK.
Intro video is just a black screen with sound. Also works with Proton GE 7-16.
nointro=true width=1920 height=1080 fullscreen=false
Alt-Tab freezes the game, resizing the window during menu freezes the game (kill with Alt-F4), resizing the window during gameplay leads to black window for a couple of seconds
Intro videos are just black, therefore I disabled them using launch options. Resolution can be changed using launch options, but the UI does not scale. I tried dgVoodoo2 but this must be used in fullscreen mode which breaks Alt-Tab. I also tried dsoal to enable EAX ingame, but it didn't work at all.
Old but works
Game has no window mode.
Alt-Tab brakes picture and need restart game.
Played with Proton 6.3-8

Multiplayer does not work out of the box and requires protontricks to install directplay. The used proton version (experimental of date 16.12.2021 and 6.3-8) protects files from being overwritten as protontricks attempts to install them, so i had to move the files:
directory: ~/.var/app/com.valvesoftware.Steam/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/39190/pfx/dosdevices/c:/windows/syswow64/
files to move: dplayx.dll, dpnet.dll, dpnhpast.dll, dpnsvr.exe, dpwsockx.dll
Then installation of directplay succeeded
protontricks-flat 39190 directplay
And a langame was able to be hosted (before you were just thrown back in the menu) - to bypass the "disabled" in the mainmenu you can start the game with the startoptions "zonematch=true".
Don't alt-tab out of the window, you will have to restart the game.
Alt-Tab causes issues, you have to restart afterwards
Touch input coordinates not correct
Working OOB
Game runs great.
Opening videos don't play. ESC key to skip to main menu.

If you have a resolution larger than 1080p then just install dgVoodoo2 and configure it
just install dgVoodoo2 and see your problems melt away, i am even able to broadcast it with steam and use overlay, no alt-tab issues found
if youre too noob to set up dgvooodo2 then just play the game at ur native res and you wont see any problems with alt-tabbing too
it will be a horrible experience as the UI is stuck in 2000's with it's size
just use these launch options once you've set up dgVoodoo2: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="ddraw=n" %command% bltonly=true nointro=true width=1280 height=720
bltonly will get rid of the stutters no matter what GPU you use
i am playing this on a 43" 4k screen it works like in the old times when i had 1024x768
Works out of the box
All in all the game works very well.
I don't recommend using Alt-Tab, because the game screen may get stuck.
The intro videos can't be seen.
I had to downgrade to Proton 5.0-13 in order for it to fullscreen properly. Otherwise it would be super tiny in the corner and make my screen flash all sorts of pretty colors.

Runs fine without any tweaking.
The loading screen video doesn't play, just a black screen and audio.
Works great! Recommend installing Killah's fix, which adds Legends of Aranna.
Logo movies are black, but as they are not the game, it's not really an issue.

Works good
Played with Proton 5.0-7
Works with no issues.
Use launch options to set resolution, you'll get an error about settings being incorrect but that's okay.

Seems to run out of the box (<15 minutes played but will be playing more). Manjaro Linux.
Alt-tabbing caused/causes serious issues with GFX. Could be because of i3wm but either way save before you tab out!
The screen 'doubles' but you're only able to play in a half window. Don't Alt-Tab.
Black screen instead of intro. Otherwise the game runs fine.
Mouse doesn't work after ALT+Tab back to the game
Only sound in intro
Not starting at all
Works perfectly out of the box

Sometimes crashes.

Constant 30 FPS

I 've managed to run Killah's Fix(which enables the DLC and extra content for the game) on Proton by copying all the patch content to "$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Dungeon Siege 1/" and executing the following:
cd "$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 4.2" && STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH="$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/39190" ./proton run dist/lib/wine/fakedlls/cmd.exe
, then cd'ing to the game folder and executing the "RegPatch DS I.bat"
For custom resolution or skipping intro videos you can set those on launcher option:
width=1366 height=768 bpp=32 nointro=true
