Frame Limit of 60FPS and a TDP Limit of 10 Watts
Game had no issues at all. Hasn't crashed at all, saving is fine, FPS is locked at 60.

Works flawlessly out of the box
How to install HD textures (completely optional)
I. download stuff
- SMOS 4X AI Textures (4 GB), unpack to
~/tmp/
- TFC Installer for UE2-UE3, unpack to
~/tmp/
- .NET 6.0.36 - Windows Desktop Runtime - x64 (click the
x64
on the right), put in~/tmp
II. in terminal
- TFC can't handle dot-files in paths, so make a symlink:
ln -s ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/ ~/SteamGames
- install .NET 6 (required by TFC), follow installation wizard:
protontricks-launch --appid 242640 ~/tmp/windows*-runtime*.exe
- run the TFC itself:
protontricks-launch --appid 242640 ~/tmp/TFC*/TFCInstaller.exe
III. in TFC window
- set Game folder to
Z:\home\<your-username>\SteamGames\Styx
- set Mod folder to
Z:\home\<your-username>\tmp\Styx4X
- click Update Styx: Master of Shadows and wait until done
NOTE: to confirm path selection, you need to highlight the directory on the right side of the window, not in the tree view on the leftkj
HD textures have now been baked into the game files, you'll see high resolution textures after starting the game.
IV. no longer needed
- files downloaded in the 1st step (4 GB)
- unzipped versions of those files (5 GB)
- original LQ textures backup in the game directory TFCInstallerBackups (2 GB)
- if you want, you can also remove the SteamGames symlink made in the 2nd step
V. (optional) config tweaks
Before clean-up, you can also install config tweaks provided by that same HD texture pack. Not all of those tweaks make sense, though. Things like extending buffers, fog height, shadowing & lighting, or LOD distance will somewhat improve the visual fidelity, but degrading textures filters from anisotropic/linear combo to linear/point certainly won't, especially if you run the game above 1080p resolution.

Works good
Played with Proton 9.0-4.

During first launch of game, I had to use Proton-6.21-GE-2 to install all the prerequisites for the game. After that first launch, I could switch to proton-cachyos-9.0-20250426-slr-x86_64_v3 which I installed using ProtonUp-Qt

Set FPS limit to 40
Runs great out of the box with no tinkering necessary. I only set the FPS limit lower to extend battery life

Just force steam proton db in game propriety. (Experimental Version for me)

After pausing and putting the deck to sleep, and coming back 15 min later, the game was completely silent. Worked fine again after closing and re-opening the game.
Runs flawlessly, 60fps locked on medium.
Works perfectly

Played initially on Proton 8.0-3 and Proton Experimental. In both cases, the game works perfectly. GE-Proton8-16 is not required for a comfortable game.
Played for 15 min in 1440p with max graphics, ran flawlessly.
Works Perfectly
Inicia y funciona perfecto: Terminado al 100%, 1080p, control(xbox one/series), Proton=7.0-6
Nothing to complain
Works out of the box.
Runs perfectly out of the box; litterally no issues at all.
If you like stealthy riddles, this is your game.
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
protontricks 242640 dotnet40 & protontricks 242640 xact_jun2010
Game works great, runs with no issues!
Loaded my save files which were from Windows perfectly fine!
Just install and enjoy, nothing else to do
No issues found
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
In some areas I've noticed that if you move the camera quickly, there's some artifacting in corners of rooms. In the corners, from floor to ceiling, it's almost as if there is z-fighting, which causes the skybox to be visible in a tall thin verticle line for a moment. This is not always reproducible, and I haven't been able to identify a cause.
The issue here is with DWM. Switching to a different tag, then switching back to the tag the game is running on will be broken, and the game will require a restart.
Adding launch option PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command% resolved all performance problems. I can now play 1920x1080 with settings maxed out (no motion blur or DoF) at 60fps with excellent frame pacing. Before launch options, I had to reduce resolution and still experienced lower FPS than expected, and mild stuttering.
Before this game became Steam Deck verified, it was unplayable due to periodic crashing. This is 100% stable and ultra playable. Launch option for directX 9 is not required but it will most likely increase your FPS.

Works out-of-box
Played with Proton 6.3-8
Runs smoothly at 60 fps both in game and in cutscenes. Everything worked flawlessly.
Works perfectly out of box without any user interaction. 10/10

I've added: gamemoderun %command% in launch options.
Frames drop down to 30 fps on cinematics.

Launch the game outside of steam
I faced the the same bug the few other people who couldn't launch. Launching the executable with wine directly worked.
Runs out of the box
Works out of the box
Runs very well. Great performance
Works fine out of the box
No problems observed
add xinput1_3 and xinput9_1_0 to dll overrides
fixed with dumpxinputemu: https://github.com/kozec/dumbxinputemu
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command% in launch options for better performance
Runs perfectly fine, full support for Steam Controller. Had to reboot after system update otherwise Proton wouldn't start.
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
in launch options gives performance boost.
There are minor slowdowns on high@1440p when there's a lot of particle effects.
