by disabling Steam Input for the game the controller was fully working; with enabled Steam Input it was detected but did not respond to any inputs / buttons.
You need to limit the game to four cores of your CPU (see launch command), otherwise it won't start. Other than that and the required disabling of Steam Input for the game it works fine.
Installs and plays without issues

On first launch the setting dialog is shown. This can't be navigated with gamepad. Either use the touchscreen or community layout

The game runs perfectly as of October 2024 in its Steam version using default Proton. I al surprised it is not verified considering it requires no tinkering at all. You can push all the settings up (8xAA and 8xAnisotropic filtering), you'll still get a perfectly stable 60fps out of the game running at 800p and could probably get good performance at higher resolution as well. On the first boot, the game opens a config launcher that needs to be navigated with the touchscreen. It does not open afterwards and all settings can be changed from the ingame menu. Controllers are now fully supported as well. Great experience altogether.

The game won't run on CPUs with over 31 threads (0xFFFFFFFF), it's necessary to limit them with WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY config option.

Runs pretty much perfect.
If you Alt-Tab or switch workspaces and return to game, it might get flashy textures.

Touchscreen is necessary to control the window inputs

the game is somewhat stuttering at some point
some artifacs i guess
in order to play this game you need to switch to the older proton. I use Proton 4.2-9

Игра проходится полностью и идет замечательно.

You're met with a slow game.

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Comando necessário somente se sua placa gráfica não tiver suporte a DXVK
game stutters massively, enabling new graphics pipeline with launch option resolves this. even with proton at default 7.0-6

PROTON_USE_WINED3D gamemoderun %command%
niedrige FPS mit heftigen Rucklern, längere Ladezeiten
Läuft leider nicht flüssig. Beinhaltet auch heftige Framedrops
As long as you add the command line argument then the game runs flawlessly.
When first loading up the game as is you are welcomed with horrible stuttering which renders the game unplayable. If you simply add the command line arg: RADV_PERFTEST=gpl %command% then all of your problems melt away .
RADV_PERFTEST=gpl %command%
Runs at 60fps on highest settings with 2xAA, largely thanks to the experimental Graphics Pipeline Library in mesa. This is the game you want it enabled on.

I haven't played it since DXVK 1.10 but today I give it a try with DXVK 2.1 and Proton-GE-7.48. You probably know that stutter with DXVK before, it is all gone now. I don't know what fixed it but it's all smooth on DXVK now. It's Platinum for me.

On Deck:
Set Refresh Rate to 40
In Game Settings:
Anti Aliasing = 2x
Texture Detail = Medium
Texture Filtering = 4x Antistropic
Triple Buffering = Off
VSync = Off
Works out of the box!
Excellent adventure/action packed game that runs at mostly 60 FPS on high graphics, perfect for the Steam Deck

After install and starting up for the first time, a launcher/settings window will appear once. Just use the touch screen to interact and save settings. Launcher/setting window will not appear after this initial run.
Significant stuttering on some level area. Switch to Proton Experimental and set the launch option seems to fix stuttering. Minor suttering on level load.
I don't know what to say. As for now game is unplayable unless you have computer from NASA or something.
Game hardly ever can reach 60 FPS even on RTX graphics cards
Changing proton version and adding these launch options makes the game perfectly playable on a Deck.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command%
Some slight stuttering when loading some reasources, but otherwise perfectly playable.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 gamemoderun %command%
Stutters when moving camera, moving mouse really fast was essentially freezing the game.
Game was stuttering when using FeralGamemode, was stuttering with USE_WINED3D. What helped was taking both of those and changing Proton to really old version - 5.13-6 was working fine, but 4.11-13 made it work perfectly (also splash screen changed for some reason). Also turning on VSync in options is pretty much necessary - it improves performance and fixes physics issues.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
There was a slight crackling, but it almost completely disappeared when I turned the volume down.
When the game first ran, the FPS was quite low and the game was not playable. After closing the game and typing "PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%" in the launch setting and running the game again, the fps problem was fixed and the game worked very well. After that, I played the game to the end and had no problems.
Heavy stuttering.

Frequent Stuttering
In order for the gamemode command to work, you have to have the Feral gamemode installed or use a version of protonGE that includes it.
TRU was a half-decent port on Windows that isn't aging well and requires some babying even on Windows to be completely performant. YMMV
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% gamescope -w 1920 -h 1080 -r 60 -n
Dug into the user.reg file under .steam/steam/steamapps/compdata/(AppID) to modify DisableDynamicTextures and DontDeferShaderCreation to 0 per pcgamingwiki.
There are color banding artifacts under D3D.
Tomb Raider Underworld does not play well with SteamInput. You may need an xinput-compatible controller to play. (I was only able to play using my Xbox Pro Controller Series 2 via USB. Tested a DualShock 4 and a Steam Controller wired with not success.)
The game does not have cloud sync.
Without the D3D and regedit adjustments the game was nigh unplayable at any resolution. Per other comments this seems to be an issue with DXVK and TRU.
It is recommended to limit your framerate to 60. Going higher than this causes physics issues and you may notice physics issues on modern hardware regardless.
Game has no window mode.
Became playable on 1280x800 and off most of graphics settings.
Played with Proton 5.13-6 and params PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%.
Using WineD3D decrease number of freezes but setting off for graphics options helps more :(.
Proton 6.3-8 with WineD3D drops textures to 16bit and game looks strange.
The stuttering is so severe that it makes enjoying the game completely impossible.
There was extreme stuttering
Switching to an earlier version of Proton mitigates the stuttering significantly. I was able to enjoy the game after switching to Proton version 4.11-13

add PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 to launch options and optionally gamemoderun if you've installed it

"ds4drv --hidraw" gives full ps4 controller support with rumble. Performance is nearly the same as on windows for this machine.

disabling volumetric effects helped me a lot, compare to last report it runs noticeable better.

DXVK is very stuttery on this title but wined3d has color banding. Almost as if using a lower bit depth
Color issues with wined3d
The game is also a bit buggy. Getting stuck in places or events not triggering
Using PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 will cause the game to run smoothly but with noticeable color banding. It is very playable yet distracting.
Steam input does not seem to be supported properly or at least I cannot get it to work. I opted to just disable it and use an Xbox controller.
Cloud saves don't appear to be supported
Some small stutters here and there when first loading an area
Game does not start with more than 30 threads. Add "taskset -c 0-29" to the command line options, eg:
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 taskset -c 0-29 %command%
Custom command line options
Just add launch option PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
I tried various things with newer Proton Versions by tweaking via launch options. Nothing really helped to acheieve an acceptable non-stuttering gameplay. Then I went back to Proton 4.2-9. Yes, you have to install DirectX but that went smooth. ALso the game srun smooth by this approach. Maybe just some very rare stutters.
Solo se puede jugar con teclado

Needs a bit tweaking, but after that it's running without issues. ps: ALT-TAB not working.
First step to get rid of performance issues.
Despite of the startup tuning arguments, additionally FSAA and AF has to be disabled. After that 4k running without problems.
