Totally Borked, crashes instantly.
Other people say it requires Media Foundation to work, but installing those things are really hard for me, mostly because i am just a linux noob, trying to play it without that just wont work.

Ran with no issues on deck!

PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=60 fixes most of the crackling.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 fixed the performance issue.
With some tinkering the game runs smoothly even on the highest graphics preset.
Fixes videos when installed with proton 5.0
GE-Proton7-20
Cutscenes wouldn't play in Proton Experimental. GE solved the issue.

Game gets stuck on initial loading screen
I tried several different versions of Proton as well as trying mf-install with no avail. The game boots up just fine and I can access the menus, but as soon as I try to enter the game it freezes on the loading screen when the loading bar is at ~75%. Audio continues to play the cutscene but the video is frozen.
This game used to work 6 months ago, when I played it with mf-install
. I tried to run it again now, and all I could get was a black screen. No combination of Proton runtimes and flags helped. It was only after I reinstalled the game that everything started working again out of the box.
For those getting a black screen, try deleting the game and installing it again. Beware though, I seem to have lost all my saves (not sure if Steam sync was enabled, though).

6.16-GE-1 GloriousEggroll
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.16-GE-1
I'm using the latest GE fork of Proton to get videos to work, but the game launched and would probably run just fine with Proton Experimental. The only other issue is that the game seems to "hang" when starting a new game or loading a previous save, but only the first time the game is run after a fresh install. I haven't played the game on Windows yet so I can't say if this is just how the game is, or if it's a Linux-specific issue. Overall, not a big deal given how well the game runs.
instantly crashes on launch

Game runs good but has no videos.
No movies - I always get the video feed error.
No videos.

Doesn't launch
When I launch the game, it pops out like it's about to go to fullscreen, and I lose the mouse cursor. Only thing I can do at that point is alt+tab back to the steam client and stop the game.
Tried Glorious Eggroll and several revisions of Proton, no luck.
Basically it's playable with 6.3 but there are some bugs: Demon isn't painted correctely, Cuscene are shown with a test-image,
The demon was just a small cloud.
I recommend Proton GE for a very good game experience where all the issue are gone.

The Media Foundation fix is required with Proton 5.13 and older. With Proton experimental the game starts, but then crashes. So Media Foundation DLL fix may still be needed even with upcoming proton versions.
The game runs excellently after using the Media Foundation DLL fix. It is a very beautiful game.
The game only ran at 40-50 FPS. However I was able to fix this by using a FSYNC enabled Kernel and use launch parameter WINEFSYNC_SPINCOUNT=10000 %command%
. This gave me solid 90-120 FPS.
It runs perfect out of the box for me.
I'm not sure if it's my graphics driver or something else but my game runs perfect out of the box. I didn't change any of the steam play compatibility options. So if you're having trouble then try turning off any compatibility tools, update your graphics driver and try again, I hope it'll work for you like it does for me.

Broken, black screen.
Media Foundation DLL not working for me :< Tried also wined3d11 and noesync as a standard package. Without success.
michal.dybczak in the reviews here explains it the best on how to install the MF DLL. I did change the locations for my install as it seems different than michal.dybczak's.
export WINEPREFIX="/home/(your username here)/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/585450/pfx/"
export PROTON="/home/(your username here)/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 5.0/"
Everything else was exactly the same. The game ran smoothly.

Notes Sometimes it gets stuck loading a save.
This runs very poorly with an nVidia 950. I've upgraded since my last report to an Radeon 5600 XT which should be overkill.
The game doesn't run after installation - we get only black screen. To fix it you need to install mf Media Foundation. First, I tried to install it with protontricks and it was successful but the game still didn't start. So I tried the script from z0z0z which worked. Here are the instructions:
- Go to: https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install
- Download (clone or download in zip format) and unpack it.
- Open terminal and cd to the location where you unpacked it.
- Enter two commands (modify the paths, so they would be correct for you):
export WINEPREFIX="/home/user/SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/585450/pfx/"
export PROTON="/home/user/SteamLibrary/steamapps/common/Proton 4.11/"
Those commands won't create any visible output.
- Then enter this command:
./mf-install.sh -proton
If the export paths were correct, you will see a bunch of output and the success info. If there is a problem, look again at the export paths and correct them. You can try as many times and the success output of the third command will let you know that it worked.
- Restart Steam. I didn't do it, so the game run, but froze when starting a new game. After the restart the problem was gone.
After doing the above steps, game starts correctly and offers native-like experience. No instability whatsoever, no crashes, no issues. However, I didn't try Steam Controller, since this is a type of game that is best controlled from keyboard and mouse anyway.
Many games run but have plenty small issues, but in this case, once you made it work, it works great, so it's worth to apply the above fix.
Only shows a black screen upon starting the game. Requires Media Foundation workaround, which I didn't bother trying.
used Proton GE 21 - black screen with fix even hung at load

Pretty much everything I said in my previous report holds true (compare my system information). The only change is that I'm 6 hours in and now the game is a crash fest. I don't know if its due to the new drivers, for if this is just what happens after playing for a while. At first it was just on area transitions, but now it can happen at any time.

This runs less than perfectly, but is playable. I strongly suggest borderless windows, otherwise you're game can crash.
Also, as has been noted before, to get the game running at all you need Media Foundation stuff installed. For legal and security reasons I would advise using your own W7 DLLs instead of those provided in the Git repo people have been linking to. That said, the script is absolutely lovely so I would also strongly suggest its use.
The only real problem I've had are performance which go beyond the normal hit expected from using Wine. I don't have the greatest hardware in the world, but I shouldn't have to turn the graphics level to the very bottom to make the game run smoothly (the minimum req is a GTX460 and the recommended is a 970...I have a 950). Especially since the problem isn't the open world where there is more to render and compute, but rather the in-game menu. The equipment menu in particular cause the game to grind to a halt, so I suspect there is some kind of post processing going on which we can't disable any way other than to turn the graphics level all the way down. For me, I've got it set to "Good". I also turned on V-sync after about an hour of play because this game really needs it. I saw no performance penalty from using V-sync by the way.
I tried no_fsync, and wine_d3d. Forcing OpenGL D3D11 causes crashes on world load.

Ignore my previous borked rating: shader compilation in first loading screen took half forever and I thought it crashed. After z0z0z/mf-install tweak, game runs fine and everything seems to work. Performance could be better I guess but I do get 40-60fps in 1440p everything maxed so it's certainly playable.

After installing https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install goes to menu, but hangs on loading screen when starting a new game.

after installing https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install goes to menu, but hangs on starting new game

Using z0z0z Media Foundation workaround, it works perfectly fine.

Works well when you integrate the Windows Media Foundation library into the registry. How to do it on the example of WINE see here: https://youtu.be/a4zLZDGKuQ4

After installing the Media Foundation Fix from z0z0z everything is running fine.

Stuck on black screen when launched and not responsive to input.

Game launches to black screen. No tweaks tried.

I didn't try any tweak but the game didn't start.

I tried all three "default" fixes, AND tried setting it to XP mode, and it launched, but was completely black.
The black screen means it's completely unplayable. Unfortunately at this point, there's nothing I know that can make it work.

This is a Unity 3D that launches but sits at a black screen. So future updates could work.
