After installing the game it kept crashing after each stage. I could not return to the garage or to the main menu. Progress was saved, but I had to restart every time. It seems like that after tinkering with the settings of my Logitech G29 wheel, the problem went away. Unfortunately I do not know what fixed it. I changed a lot of settings. So, if you have this issue, maybe changing all of the wheel's settings a bit and applying the new values may help.
Just the requirement of manually importing the certificate as other mentioned it already.
The game runs flawlessly otherwise with graphics on HIGH at 2k resolution. Setting everything to maximum may introduce some framedrops/stutter when suddenly a lot of people and buildings appear.
When it starts, it runs well.
Artifacts on the characters while selecting them. Nothing showstopper. Also when a radio message comes in, frames drop for a second or two. It can lead to crashes. I still have to test if it is voice message or the label that appears on top of the screen. Maybe disabling the label could help.
On Logitech G29 (in PS3 mode) I had to map the acceleration and break pedals. Some pedals showed up by default but they didn't register when pressed. Also "Wheel damper" seems to have no effect. I like my wheel to be stiffer, but even at 70-80% it is the same as at 8. Also I had to get wheel saturation up to 100 to get about 360 degrees of max rotation. Settings done through pyLinuxWheel have no effect in the game. I would like to mention that the other effects, like on trak, off track, rumble strip seem to be working as expected.
So, I run the game in DirectX 11 mode as suggested. After first install, it started once with "PROTON_USE_SECCOMP=1 %command%", however once I exited the game it refused to start again. No errors, it just asked for DirectedX, I selected 11, the computer started to process and after a short flicker of the screen the "Play" button appeared again. So, I completely reinstalled the game and restarted Steam and then even the whole computer. Nothing seemed to work. Finally I thought to remove the "PROTON_USE_SECCOMP=1 %command%" option, and the game started again. And I played for about 1 hour without issues. However, once I exited the game, it won't start again. Now it cannot be started with, or without the SECCOMP option. I tried clicking play about 10 times so far.
Once it starts it works great and crashes are rare.
As others mentioned it, when in driver selection mode, the drivers are rendered with black triangles around them. Not a big issue.
Alt-Tab crashes the game. When I return I am getting only a black screen. Sound seems to play though in the background.
No force feedback on Logitech G29. Road effect and vibrations are working correctly. A partial solution for force feedback is to run the Oversteer app in a loop in the background with the desired parameters. At least "Center Force" is working, friction does not seem to work though. We need this trick to run Oversteer in CLI on a loop because we cannot change window (Alt-Tab) to set the settings. And when the game starts, it just resets the G29's settings and all force feedback is gone. None of the force feedback settings inside the game seem to have any effect.
When radio messages come in, there is a sudden frame drop for about 1-2 seconds. Unfortunate if they catch you in a breaking zone.
Sometimes the game just crashes. I am not sure if it has any relevance, but I mostly got crashes when returning to main menu.
It takes up to 10-15 tries to get the game start. It just starts to start ... Steam says "running" for about 5 seconds, then a flicker and it appears "Stopped" again. So, if you don't get it running immediately, be persistent.
With Logitech G29 wheel you need to install lg4ff-new dirver. Then all settings are now properly working. All force feedback and vibration is enabled and configurable from inside the game. Run it with Proton Experimental, I am not sure about 5.13.
With DirectX 12 the game starts, but almost always it crashes during cut scenes, just before going to a venue. With DirectX 11 it seems to be all good, no crashes so far since the last update (v1.15). I didn't use the seccomp extra option to start the game.
The Media Foundation fix is required with Proton 5.13 and older. With Proton experimental the game starts, but then crashes. So Media Foundation DLL fix may still be needed even with upcoming proton versions.
