You may need to make a copy of the game executable "Borderlands2.exe" and name it "Launcher.exe"
Launcher option: PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command% -nomoviestartup -nolauncher
Butter smooth experience with solid 90+FPS. The game run out of the box but may need a few tweaks to make it smooth

Proton 6.13-GE
You may get micro stutters using default Proton, try (PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1), or use Eggroll's Proton.
"Space Screen Reflections" is broken and it resulted in grainy surfaces, I turend off for most of my gameplay except for "Astral plane" where it is hard to see the floor without reflections.
If you use Eggroll's Proton with WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 make sure the game resolution is smaller than your monitor resolution to make use of FSR.
Install, run, enjoys! This game needs more than 8Gb RAM, If that is what you have make sure to enable swap preferably on an SSD
Runs out of the box, performance is great. My launch options are for getting Mangohud and enabling game mod, they are not required.

Both the native game and "Two colonels DLC worked fine with no hiccups, Sam's story DLC was unplayable due to frequent crashes
Only fo Sam's story DLC
Native version worked fine for both the main story and the 1st DLC. 2nd DLC however was unplayable due to craches even with Directx11, The proton version worked great with a solid caped 120fps after steam finished pre-caching without a single crache. If I'm to replay this game, I will definitely go for the proton version.
