In /SteamLibrary/steamapps/compatdata/32430/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Aspyr/Star Wars The Force Unleashed/Config.xml, changed for 1440p.
Also added "ClothLevel">1 for cloth physics.
You can play this without any tweaking but you are limited to 1080p resolution and 30fps caps. After tweaking, this game runs very well and looks great!

Proton experimental fixes issues with the launcher

occasionally when an in game cutsence starts parts of teh screen goes black
Initially when starting the game the launcher window was unresponsive when proton 9.0-2 was used. I was able to select options (resolution and input) by forcing the use of proton 8.0-5, then later changing back to 9.0-2. Steam overlay works, controller input works (and is better then mouse + keyboard for this one) Alt tabbing crashes the game

Bypassed the Launcher by renaming the game executable to the launcher and manually modifying the game config:
From the game folder:
cp SWTFUexe SWTFU\ Launcher.exe```
Then from your SteamLibary folder:
./steamapps/compatdata/32430/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Aspyr/Star Wars The Force Unleashed/
Backup and edit the 'Config.xml' file:
Resolution:
<s id="VideoWidth">1024</s>
<s id="VideoHeight">768</s>
Controler / Mouse+keyboard:
<s id="IsKBAndMouse">TRUE</s>
Occasional Stuttering
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d9=n,b" %command%
crash when alt+tab, workaround: use dgVoodoo2, copy d3d9.dll file in same folder that game main exe
the game works flawlessly with the 60 FPS mod albeit with some physics issues, search PC Gaming Wiki for the details.

gamemoderun PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command%
followed this steam guide to get 60fps and to fit my 1440p monitor: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=386753467
After a little tinkering this can be a great gaming experience on Linux with this classic game

Game work fine with proton 8.0.4 and cutscenes work fine no bug at all. 30fps every that 2nd world not have bugs used to be report think should he move to playable now not alot of bugs anymore at all.
Yes it work fine every bug on world happens early game does not look it happens anymore and game run good 30fps. Don't go over it.

Able to play through entire game, only occasional crashes, setting up Winetricks was the most difficult part.
Wine-GE-Proton 7.27, Winecfg set Win 7, created 32bit wineprefix
Select controller config window, touchscreen yes to use controller instead of keys
Once during playthrough texture was missing but did not cause crash, texture loaded after reboot.
Occasional crashes, especially when replaying a level multiple times due to character death, crashes on next section load after deck goes into sleep/screen timeout.
Amazon game installed through Heroic. Downloaded missing sounds and patch from GamePressure, Winetricks was the most difficult part to set up, used other reports on here and WineHQ for specific dlls required. Had difficullty with 60fps patch, so I set Heroic and deck to cap FPS at 30. Only really encountered occasional crashes while playing on Sith Master and dying multiple times in the same battle, typically >5 times. Restarting deck would give me some more tries to finish battle and move on.

Worked fine once everything was set up, but setting the game up and figuring out which DLL overrides I needed was a pain in the ass.
Used winetricks to install d3dx9-43.dll, binkw32.dll and DirectX 9 abd set DLL overrides.
I also renamed SWFU.exe to SWFUold.exe and SWFU Launcher.exe to SWFU LauncherOLD.exe, and downloaded a 60fps patch from https://www.gamepressure.com/download.asp?ID=69368 that I put in the game files and named SWFU Launcher.exe, in order to bypass the launcher at startup.
If you don't know about winetrick and DLL overrides (I didn't), learn how to use them. Once I got everything figured out it was pretty straightforward. The hard part was finding out what I needed to do to get the game running.

If you buy from other source lime Amazon, this is the way I was able to make videos work. It also shows the stars in the loading screen.
I had to install Directx 9_43 and maybe bik dll too
On desktop mode, I was not able to make Lutris run my ps4 controller.
No issues in game mode
I got the game from Amazon Prime, I had to use Heroic Launcher to install but videos were blank with audio only. Lutris was the only way I was able to make them work.

Works Perfectly
Recommend using the 60 FPS patch
https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Star_Wars:_The_Force_Unleashed#High_frame_rate

Needed sound files from the pc gaming wiki.
5 watts. 500 gpu.
A lake in the junkyard level looks really bad.
TDP limited to 5W
renamed the SWTFU Launcher.exe to SWTFU LauncherOLD.exe and renamed SWTFU.exe to SWTFU Launcher.exe
Getting this game to work required some additional tweaking. Each time you launch it, you need to ensure that you have selected a resolution of 800 to 1280, ticked the high details box, and set the controller to an Xbox 360 controller. This process was frustrating, so I created a configuration and renamed the SWTFU Launcher.exe to SWTFU LauncherOLD.exe and renamed SWTFU.exe to SWTFU Launcher.exe. By doing this, Steam believed it was loading the launcher, but it wasn't and jumped straight into the game. However, before doing this, you must ensure that you have set up your configuration as an Xbox 360 controller. The game functioned seamlessly from this point onwards, but the FPS seemed to be capped on the lower side. After researching online, I discovered that others had replaced the executable with a modified 60FPS version, which I also did. I downloaded the file from this website: https://www.gamepressure.com/download.asp?ID=69368 and dropped it into the game folder steamapps, common, star wars the force unleashed. I then renamed the SWTFU Launcher.exe to SWTFU.exe.old and renamed the downloaded exe to SWTFU Launcher.exe, as before. This increased the FPS and made the game enjoyable to play.

Works perfectly out of the box
Launcher fixes no longer needed with Proton 7.0-5

This game plays perfectly on Steam Deck right from the start, with default Steam settings (no Proton was selected)
Valve lists this game as unsupported for Steam Deck, but I think the Playable rating would be more accurate.
Once you start up the game, you'll be greeted by a launcher window. The only settings you need to change are the input device (from Keyboard to Xbox 360 controller), and the resolution (from 800x600 to 1280x800, the Deck's native resolution). High Detail can stay enabled.
After that, the game performs flawlessly. The game is programmed run at 30FPS and maintains that frame rate perfectly, and the default controls work without a hitch.
For those that want to, you can go into Steam Input to set the left trackpad to Joystick (not "As Joystick ", just "Joystick "). This way you can control the Force Grip through the left and right trackpads, since the right trackpad already emulates the right joystick by default. I would recommend playing around with the trackpad sensitivity settings to your liking, or I've also submitted a community layout with my personal Steam Deck setup for others to try.
WOrks perfectly fine
Worked without any issue
Game worked without any tinkering, even the launcher.

Enabled controller support in the config file not via the launcher.
Videos were playing with a black screen, only sound was playing.
Played the GOG version with 40 FPS patch applied. Video playback wasn't working properly, GE-Proton didn't help. In the end, I deleted the "FMV" folder containing the .bik video files and watched the prerendered cutscenes on Youtube. Btw deleting the videos cut the game's size by ~1/3 and skips the startup sequence. As I already played the game on PS3 back in the day, I knew the story and skipping/watching the videos on Youtube wasn't a big issue for me.
Gameplay worked great without any issues! Played through the main game and the DLCs without any issues related to gameplay. (The DLCs cutscenes are all realtime, so the prerendered cutscene issue didn't apply to the DLC)
This is most likely the game itself as others including on Windows say the game is a little buggy. But only experienced issues on the first 2 Starkiller missions where relfections of corridors were black and lava having weird flickering.
When you switch windows game will go to black and become unresponsive.
I played through the main game and encountered a couple bugs, but that was probably just the game itself because even on Windows you're gonna experience bugs, but I didn't notice any performance issues or anything that would make it a Linux issue. I used the 60fps patch you can find here (https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/506-star-wars-the-force-unleashed-12-fps-cap-fix-60-fps-unlock/) I also configured my game through the config file istead of the launcher, but others are saying that works now.
Audio randomly cuts out. This does not affect cutscenes.
Tabbing out of game will crash the game
Game runs smoothly outside of the minor mentioned issues.
In rare cases the game sound randomly stops working. After a game restart the sound is back.
Overall the game is working out of the box (you'll need to select the correct game resolution and the xbox 360 controller the first time on the game launcher).
You need to use a text editor to change a text file and you need to rename two files. If you want 60fps mode you need to download a patch. Instructions below.
Config.xml needs a small text correction
Go to desktop mode, go to https://www.gamepressure.com/download.asp?ID=69368 and download the 60fps exe.
This download is called swtfufpsfix17022015.zip and you only need to extract the .exe file thats inside this zip in the 60fps subfolder.
In steam os desktop mode in Discover app (the blue shopping bag icon), in the search bar beside the home icon on the top left hand side type "text editor" and install a text editor.
Open dolphin (the folder explorer that steam os uses), click the burger style (3 horizontal lines) button on the top right hand side to access dolphin options and make sure Show hidden files is ticked.
Under "Devices" on the left hand side of dolphin file explorer (you may need to scroll down), select home, which will allow you (by clicking the "deck" folder) to navigate to /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/32430/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Aspyr/Star Wars The Force Unleashed and open config.xml with the text editor.
Set video width to 1280 and height to 800 by replacing the numbers listed in the respective tags. Change IsKBAndMouse to FALSE (just delete true and type FALSE). Now close the file and save.
Scroll down to removable devices in Dolphin on the left hand side and choose "primary" then navigate to steamapps, common, star wars the force unleashed. Put the 60fps exe here. There is a file in the folder called SWTFU Launcher.exe. rename it to SWTFU LauncherOLD.exe
Then rename the exe from the 60fps folder as SWTFU Launcher.exe
It should work in desktop mode and also gaming mode now.
If you don't have the 60fps exe download, just rename the file that already exists in the same folder called SWTFU.exe and call it SWTFU Launcher.exe
This will work with controller and will launch properly but it will be in 30fps.
Have to replace "SWTFU Launcher.exe" with SWTFU.exe" as the launcher doesn't work at all. Since the launcher doesn't launch, you need to manually edit the config file for resolution and key binds.
Losing focus causes the game to lock up with blank screen.
Can't access Launcher so key binds and keyboard+mouse vs controller must be done out of game in a config file.
Alt-tabbing or lossing focus hard locks the game.
Change "VideoWidth" and "VideoHeight" to desired screen resolution. Change "IsKBAndMouse" from "TRUE" to "FALSE" to enable controller support (Game is really meant to be played with controller)
"Config.xml" file found under "/32430/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Aspyr/Star Wars The Force Unleashed" in CompatData folder
I changed the name of the SWTFU.exe to SWTFU Launcher.exe and changed the config.xml file.
I had to change the config.xml in the IsKBAndMouse option, you should have change it to FALSE.
As long as you make the changes I have listed the game runs as good, better even, as when I first played it on PlayStation at release.
Edit "Config.xml" file
Change "VideoWidth" and "VideoHeight" to desired screen resolution. Change "IsKBAndMouse" from "TRUE" to "FALSE" to enable controller support (Game is really meant to be played with controller)
"Config.xml" file found under "/32430/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Aspyr/Star Wars The Force Unleashed" in CompatData folder
Controller support is actually better through proton than native windows.

Game won't launch
I tried the latest experimental as well as Proton 6.3-8 and nothing. I tried following some of the guides but I cannot find those directories. Very strange.

Proton-GE-6.20-1 GloriousEggroll
I've changed the following lines in the Config.xml file:
'
2560
1080'
This is the maximum resolution I can get with my Display
You need to change the variable in the Config.xml file like:
FALSE
cd ".local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Star Wars The Force Unleashed"
mv SWTFU\ Launcher.exe launcher_backup
mv SWTFU.exe SWTFU\ Launcher.exe
After that the game will launch and be "playable"
For me, the game is not really playable, since it is locked to 800x600 resolution in 30fps. The only way to change this seems to download a 3rd party executable that causes loads of other problems. That, however, has nothing to do with Proton or Linux
The game does NOT launch out of the box

The game can't open
Try using multiple versions of proton but the game did not open. So little did it work to rename SWTFU.exe to SWTFU Launcher.exe
Like others have mentioned, you need to rename one launcher and delete another, after that the game runs with only minor issues.
In a lot of the levels there seemed to be missing sfx and sometimes BGM as well, making the game seem eerily quiet at times. Also, some radio messages didn't play, although the subtitles still appeared. BGM seemed to be a little on the quiet side as well, but I'm not sure if that's a Proton issue or just how the game is.
On the Hoth level, outside the window in the circular room there are big black boxes that constantly appear and disappear. I think they're supposed to be explosions or laser beams or something.
When Alt-Tabbing back into the game, sometimes there's just a black screen, though game audio can still be heard. The only way to fix this is to close the game and restart.
In order to get a controller working, you need to edit the config.xml file. You can find it in steamapps/compatdata/32430/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Local Settings/Application Data/Aspyr/Star Wars The Force Unleashed. Once there, change "IsKBAndMouse" to FALSE. I was able to get my XBOX ONE controller working perfectly after this. You can also change the resolution here, since there's no way to do it in-game.
You need to delete SWTFU Lanucher.exe, and then rename SWTFU.exe to that, otherwise the game won't run.
