Set the game fullscreen once you reach the main menu, when it's windowed the text is slightly blurry.
Need to use the cursor or touch screen to start the game
I tested the game with Proton 7.0-3 and Proton Experimental, it crashed at launch. The game is working very well with Proton GE installed via ProtonUp-Qt.
I followed karafa's guide to make the game runs perfectly
Follow the guide I linked to make the settings box working
Some minor graphical glitches in cutscenes, nothing game breaking
You'll need to follow karafa's guide to make the game experience better.
I needed to add -skipvideos
on the launch options of the Origin launcher to make the game works, but to open Origin some tinkering was needed
I took me 1 hour to setup Origin for the launch option and to make clicking some buttons on it working
Like the other reports stated, I needed to follow some steps to make Origin works. I used this guide.
For the step 2 in "Fixing overlay and -skipvideo", you need to paste it in to the Steam launch option, they forgot to mention it. In "Skipping intro video" I just launched the game once on Windows to make it pass the intro video, the step is needed only if you don't have a Windows machine or don't want to install it outside of the Steam Deck.
After all this work, the game is running like a charm!
Set the in-game resolution to 1280x800 upon first launch and you are good to go, entire campaign fully playable without crashing
Some areas in the game will make your game freeze regardless of your graphics settings, if you are lucky enough it's unfreezing itself, else the game just crashes after two minutes. For me it happened in 2 specific areas, one in the beginning of the game and one around the end. The issue is present with Proton 8 and later, to fix it, use Proton 7.0-6
The game is working out of the box, but you'll need to spend time to configure the controller layout as you like
I needed to add a lot of keyboard keys on the controller layout, play the tutorial and change the contols in the way you like (I spend 1 hour in the tutorial just to customize the controls). Also the in game mouse sensivity resets each time you restart the game
Set the TDP to 4, it's improving the battery life without having any performance loss
Don't forget to change the in-game resolution to 1024x768 (is it the only choice, default is 800x600) with the launcher the first time you play. Don't change the graphic settings.
The first time you launch the game, use your mouse or touchscreen to select the controller configuration
If you have the black screen issue, it's because of a corrupted save file
The game started with a black screen, apparently it's a save issue, nothing to do with the operating system. To fix the issue I had to follow this guide. After that the game is running out of the box.
When EA Play is getting installed on first launch, don't close it. When launching the game, wait for the blank screens to pass. Sometime the launcher closes without opening the game, try again until the game opens (but wait for the blank screens to pass in any cases)
You may need to have your Steam account linked with your EA.com account to be able to launch the game without too much issue.
Audio is very weak, I had to crank up at maximum the Steam Deck volume to hear the game correctly
The game only works with Proton-6.21-GE-2 installed via ProtonUp-Qt. Otherwise the game crashes at the tutorial with any other version of Proton.
I needed to follow some steps on the PCGamingWiki article to avoid controller spinning and enable controller glyphs.
- Camera spins when using controller (Linux)
- Mouse/keyboard input prompts when using controller (Linux)
- Generic controller button icons (Linux)
Those are the steps to follow. You will also need to bind the escape button to any unused buttons on the controller to be able to open the game menus and settings (arrow down or up, or the back buttons).
The game starts for the first time with lower resolution, you can change it to 1280x800 in the settings menus.
Once the issues are fixed, the game is running very well.
First launch will ask you to change the game resolution.
The game was made for the mouse in mind, it's harder to play on the Steam Deck.
Tried Experimental and GE
When I launch the game, I have an error dialogue box who says: "Rayman Raving Rabbids not properly installed. Please install Rayman Raving Rabbids."
I tried the latest Proton, Proton Experimental, the latest GE Proton and a previous version. Nothing works, I even tried to verify the game files.
Can't play the game, doesn't launch after the error dialogue box.
30 FPS lock
The game is running around ~20-35 FPS with the lowest graphic settings, some areas run at 15 FPS
The game is playable if the low performance (15-30 FPS) doesn't bother you. I recommend locking the game at 30 FPS.
In rare cases the game sound randomly stops working. After a game restart the sound is back.
Overall the game is working out of the box (you'll need to select the correct game resolution and the xbox 360 controller the first time on the game launcher).
Some frames skip regardless the graphic settings
Cut scenes are not working
I tried Proton GE and Proton Experimental, the game is not launching. Works only with Proton 7.0-3 but the cutscenes are missing (probably codec issue).
Game runs at ~30 FPS with default settings (maximum except shadows at medium) and around 40 FPS with settings at minimum, the game is badly optimized for what it is
Note that the game graphics settings says the resolution is 1280x720 while I didn't have black bar typical of 720p on an 800p screen so I think the game is running at 1280x800 regardless of what the settings said.
Also no controller support, Steam Input mandatory with keyboard and mouse binding.
Forced Proton 7.0-3 in compatibility option (the game is running native Linux by default)
Native Linux doesn't detect controller, I have to switch to Proton version to make the game works with the controller
Native Linux version had problems to run with a stable 60fps, Proton fixes the issue
The game is running without issue if you make sure to run it with Proton (any recent version of Proton, I just used the latest Proton 7.0-3) in the game compatibility option. By default the game is running a native Linux version, but it's not working as intended, Proton is mandatory.
Some shadows are glitching but nothing game breaking
While switching from the latest Proton to Proton 5.13-6 to fix the crash, the game save moved, I needed to go to desktop mode and move my current save to the other empty save folder (I used FSearch to find both game folders)
The game crashes at the 4th chapter of the first episode with the latest Proton 7.0-3, I needed to switch to Proton version 5.13-6 to fix it
To avoid the game save folder issue, launch the game for the first time with Proton 5.13-6 and don't change back to any other version (otherwise you'll have to restart the story or move the save in desktop mode).
Shaders to ultra low + MSAA x2 + shadows to minimum + vsync on + fullscreen, the rest on default
When you quit the game, a force close is needed (probably Ubisoft Connect not closing with the game).
Proton 7.0-3 and Experimental works, but without intro at the start of the game
Small text in the weapons selection ingame
"Locked" at ~34fps, couldn't make it to 60 fps regardless the game settings
Multiplayer works fine
If you don't mind the missing videos (logos at the start of the game), the game is working out of the box with Proton 7.0-3 or Experimental. If you really want the logos at the start of the game, GE-Proton7-24 works fine too. The only issue I had was the perfomance: the game is running at ~34fps max, but the GPU and CPU were only at ~15% of utilization.
I locked the GPU frequency to 600MHz without having performance loss, improving battery life
You may need to open the keyboard a lot to play this game (it's part of the gameplay). To open it, press STEAM + X
