Tried 6 different proton versions, i had a feeling it was something to do with nvidia since i've seen it before.
It's caused by a driver bug from Nvidia FF16 had the same issue on launch/Demo, at least this runs a hell of a lot smoother. Next Nvidia driver should be out on the 30th as far as i have heard, let's hope it's fixed in that...
I've waited for this since FF7 Remake, i can wait a little longer ;---;
It's Not Playable as it is, Final Fanstasy 16 had the same bug on launch with Nvidia cards.
Other Proton versions don't work either. It's a Nvidia bug.

The "Fix" didnt work for me but maybe it will for you. It should help restore the missing textures apparently but yeah it's still broken for me.

In the folder /steamapps/compatdata/39210/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/My Games/FINAL FANTASY XIV - A Realm Reborn/
Open FFXIV_BOOT.cfg and set Browser 2 to Browser 1 for the first login, otherwise the EULA will not display and you cannot continue. Revert it to Browser 2 after logging in for the first time to return to the new client.
Open FFXIV.cfg and set CutsceneMovieOpening 0 to CutSceneMovieOpening 1. This file may not be generated until the first time you launch the actual game. This fix skips the initial cutscene when you first create a character, which also plays on the first login after a new install for some reason. All other cutscenes still work perfectly.
Game runs flawlessly after these changes. No performance issues, no graphical issues, no audio issues and no crashing experienced in over a year of play.

I Launch the game with XIVLauncher for a better and faster login prosses also using the 2f app can be enabled in the launcher settings

I'm on Bazzite and they updated to the 555 Nvidia driver. Using wayland works so well now, it's insanely smooth now.
x11 works too but it's not as smooth and has a lower framerate
If you want an easier login process on both Linux and Windows i would recommend XIVLauncher: Can be downloaded by going to your flatpak store.
I think i got pretty far but i don't actually know when the Demo ends but i got to the castle and ran alright up until that on Low Settings

First time around i crashed after talking in the castle after that i crash whenever i try to open the doors to the castle but ran well with fsr3 and frame gen got 60-75 frames

My Graphics card is semi broken. A fan/fan chip died when i tried to play League Of Legends with vanguard (Unfortunate timing? Probably.) So the card is handicaped to some extend But i am seeing some of the issues i'm having on both Linux and Windows, so the commands i've provided should help out a bit for everyone and some on Cachy OS.
Hope it helps ^^ Made a big difference here with more stable fps and the wait time with shaders.

__GL_SHADER_DISK_CACHE_SKIP_CLEANUP=1 - This prevents any game from automatically deleting the shaders you generate the first time you launch a game - Takes up space.

The issues i had beneath were fixed by Launch commands but most importantly Starting a new save file - If you had these issues make a new save file.

runs between 30-and 80 fps dependning on the scene - Normal gameplay is between 60 and 70
FPS has gone up since the demo got released Eikon battles were in the single digits at first now it's above 30 fps around 34 - 70 fps in Eikon battles and that's at low settings with FSR Quality and frame gen.
Now playable with a decent framerate, minor artifacting, could be better optimised but good.

When i fought the Goblins my hair started making black artifacts for a short time until i ended the fight so in all about 10 seconds of artifacting
I tried no fsr and frame gen avrage fps was around 30-35 low settings with fsr 3 and framegen it's around 90 - 100, I opted for fsr 3 frame gen and fsr Native AA with a avrage fps between 50 and 66 on low settings ( I'm missing 1 fan on the card, not doing so hot)
No other issues now at this point i would say it's playable With very minor artifacting, could still be better optimised but if the game in gonna play like this in 7 days all the way through i would have a decent time. Id buy it this month if i had the money.
Prior to the latest update i would say id have to wait but now it's pretty good

I tried it yestarday it was great performance was pretty stable and at a playable fps today i tried the new GE Proton 9-13 and it's even better instead of low settings with fsr 3 frame gen and Native aa at around 66-50 fps today i tried high/medium settings with framegen and fsr 3 AA Native, and i also found a mod that unlocks cutscene framerate and it made a huge difference.
Mod Fixes ultrawide for those who use that and does some other stuff but most importantly unlocks cutscene fps. There are scenes that are prerendered in the game and that's around 5% of all cutscenes, but man is it nice to see. https://github.com/Lyall/FFXVIFix
At High to Medium sttings mostly high i got around 55 to 40 frames it does dip to 30 in a few instances and down to 19 in some Eikon scenes. Man it's a big difference from day 1 of the demo.

They go and add Easy Anti Cheat, and you cant get a refund... Thanks Easy Anti Cheat for ruining games.

Tried downloading lib EAC as suggested by another comment on Hunt but that didnt make a difference, also tried Experimental, 9.0.2 & Cachy OS Proton Nothing works the eac and then game launches to a black screen with the mouse cursor of the game being the only thing i can see until it crashes after a bit.

Fixed by switching post processing to low, otherwise there are blue, purple, green and such orbs it the top of the screen flickering, Partial fix with DLSS.

Performance is the same as on Windows (Aweful) but with artifacting, missing textures and if you use upscaling there is flickering of textures as well
With DLSS the game Dosnt really have bad artifacting but it's unplayable from what i can see with FSR
A few times where eyes start to go black in certain scenes That was with DLSS, With FSR and Framegen there is Really heavy artifacting, can't even see the game. This was is in the Benchmark.
Without the launch options no, with them yes, they worked great for me and also fixed amd fsr and i can use framegen now atleast it runs.

With the launch settings i posted i have had only insanely minor artifacts, like really almost 0 and i've played for 13 hours straight I've used proton experimental, hotfix 9.0-4 and GE 9-23 and GE had the best performance I'm on the lowest settings with my card and it's playable and enjoyable asside from the game looking like a pixilated mess at times xD very few settings are higher but my card is also missing a fan so, yeah.
You need the launch options to have a good experience atleast on a Nvidia card but after that it was great.

You have to tinker a bit with proton versions but it works but not as well as before the update for some reason.
FPS is lower than it was before the update i was between 239 and 166 before now i'm between 135-85

For Some Reason The Linux Version Starts with A Black Screen And I Can't Play It, But Proton Works.
All you need to do is Launch the game with: PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
To fix the audio, set these launch options in the game properties for Steam: PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%
You can join a match and fool around in the pre-game but it kicks you when the match starts.

Game stops working with proton, Linux version didn't work for me at all.
Cant auto save after 2 auto saves because the game freezes
Game freezes and becomes unresponsive after an hour, you can still look around on the map, but button's stop working, and it's not saving at that point.
You can start a new game, but it does the same after a while, and i cant get the linux version to work for some reason.
No issues since i started playing when it came out.

I have been able to play it before.
I'm having an issue with any proton version i try. I simply get stuck at InstallAnywhere, it comes up, finishes and then the game seems to crash before it can even open.
Any one know a fix? Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work.

No black flickering like on minecraft caused by the nvidia drivers but there is some weird flickering atm used to work flawlessly but it's almost unplayable on Proton 9 and experimental it lags like crazy, but it's otherwise smooth and though it's a little distarcting but playable.
Have to shut the game down with system monitor if i alt-tab

For some reason it's stopped working again i've tried a lot of proton versions
I've tried hotfix proton, experimental, experimental beta, cachy os proton, and all the ge 9's and proton 9.0-2 and 8.0-5 with and without steam overlay, one day i just crashed over and over on a map and then it stopped working even after reinstall and now i'm stuck with the same problem i had the first time i launched the game, it freezes at tre Seizure warning.

if you are on cachy os dont use the launch command for the gaming power profile game-performance %command%
For some reason the game wont work with this power profile xD otherwise it works great. the commands are just to keep the shaders so you don't have to build shaders everytime but it takes up space.
Just remember to turn of steam overlay otherwise you get stuck on the warning.
