Black screen after the loading screen, just made sure i had proton GE and updated drivers, still didn't work. It fixed itself the next day. Normal for bo3
Download the T7 patch if you want to even attempt to play online, or use the BOIII client for online play. If you get stuck on a black screen after the loading screen it could takes days for it to clear up on its own, there isn't much of a fix for the issue it still happens on windows aswell
Works perfectly as far as I can tell. It started up using annoyingly low graphics settings, but that is easily adjusted.

Install T7 Patch to ensure your safety against threats like RCE while playing online, it also improves performance apparently. Source Github link with guidelines on how to set it up: https://github.com/shiversoftdev/t7patch
shoutout to the t7 dev (and contributors if any) for keeping this game playable in 2025 across all desktop platforms <3

Use the T7 Patch and follow its github instructions for Linux.
Be advised to use T7 Patch to play this game. As it improves game performance and gets rid of the FPS Issue. Also to protect your system against vulnerabilities while playing this game.

Would suggest using the T7 patch for security reasons and a game performance improvement, there's a Linux version of the patch on their github.

Plays nice
Black screen after Treyarch logo (or didn't start at all), fix was to reinstall arch Linux. (What i realised after is that i had steam install with the wrong drivers for my Graphics card, pay attention when installing steam to choose the wright vulkan Version for your setup)

Guns and walls have white texture. But that can be fixed with a simple .dll file

Used T7!
Use T7 and make sure the game is on expermential

Installed the T7 Patch made by serious
You need the t7 patch to make the game safer to play
https://github.com/shiversoftdev/t7patch Make sure to install the t7 patch by serious so you are not vulnurable to the security issues the game has and use the launch options which I put here (Not my launch options, they are from the t7 patch's github)

not sure if its part of bo3 but my controller had some sort of acceleration when looking around, it felt horrible.
basically worked with minimal changes, just a different version of proton to hotfix.

For being a CoD game from 2015, the typical gamer can still enjoy playing BO3 online in either Multiplayer or Zombies. And even mods.

Black Ops 3 Mod Tools - Fix for Stuck "Processing..." Issue on Linux
If you're modding Black Ops 3 on Linux and the map build process gets stuck at "processing..." during linking, here's a fix that worked for me.
Fix Steps
- Set the WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY Environment Variable
Add the following to your Steam launch options:
WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=12:0,1,2,3,4
Adjust the numbers based on your CPU core count. This helps the linking process proceed without freezing. WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=cpu_cores:number_of_cores_to_allocate
- Build Lighting in Radiant Instead of the BOII Mod Tools Launcher
Running lighting builds directly from the Mod Tools Launcher can cause it to get stuck at the LED Export stage. Instead, open your map in Radiant and build the lighting from there.
- Use These Steam Launch Options
DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 WINE_CPU_TOPOLOGY=12:0,1,2,3,4 gamemoderun %command%
This combination ensures better stability and prevents the build process from stalling.
Had a few host migrations, but probably Call of Duty things or other players connections.

Download T7 patch

Game works perfectly out of the box however I would recommend using GE-Proton for better performance!
Saw someone say that the number of active sound devices is causing an issue with image display. So I did the following
- Downloaded Volume Control from flathub.org
- Launched Volume Control
- Clicked configuration
- Disabled any device that I don't use for speaker or mic.
Launched the game without any modifications and it worked.

So recently Black Ops 3 has been launching with BlackScreen with Audio. Someone earlier said there is no solution on the internet, and I have just uncovered its an Audio Source issue.
Please make sure to enable only 'one' audio input and output in your Linux system. Use application called 'Pulse Audio'. Open the application, go to the right most tap in 'Configuration' and for me, I enabled my Microphone as the ONLY input, and my Headsets as the ONLY output.
REST EVERYTHING NEEDS TO BE 'OFF'
Then go ahead and launch Bo3. It should work and you should have display. If not, verify the integrity of the game files one more time.
You're going to have to make sure you don't have multiple Audio sources enabled. Make sure to have only 1 input and output like I mentioned, and you should not have the Black screen boot issue.
Please do let me know if anyone is still having an issue. I am not smart but am willing to go through the troubleshoot efforts to assist.

LD_PRELOAD="" WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dsound=n,b" %command%
There seems to be a lag timebomb that occurs after about an hour of gameplay. Mouse inputs will cause lag spikes. This seems to be an issue with Steam Runtime, however adding the LD_PRELOAD variable should alleviate issues.
Not exclusive to Linux, but this game MUST be launched with the T7 patch. Without it, you risk being exposed to RCEs, most commonly being booted offline.
I was able to get into a multiplayer match. The game's multiplayer seems pretty dead. However there shouldn't be any issues playing with friends on Zombies.
I heavily reccommend playing with the T7 patch. This will fix common framerate issues and other performance issues. This will also prevent you from being exposed to RCE's.

Black screen.
After the "Treyarch" logo, I get a black screen. I changed the proton version but nothing changed. There's no solution avaliable in internet because it isn't a common issue.

put settings on medium/low settings got an extra 20 minutes
got into a match no problem
no problems
10/10 game

Runs smooth, only requires a bit on tinkering in the form of installing the T7 community patch and configuring launch options.

Water reflections on Origins were whited out
Game didn't launch at all at first, eventually figured out that the storage device that the game was located on was mounted incorrectly as root, so the DirectX install (?) couldn't proceed when launching the game.
Otherwise, install the T7 community patch to improve stability and remove the random stutters.

Switching to GE from experimental fixed audio.
Sometimes during the campaign I noticed everything going white.
No major issues, some minor graphical issues here and there. Glorious eggroll fixed audio issues. Some users were mentioning issues on origins, I experienced no issues in origins. Nor any issues in high levels, level 80 in ascension and no funny business.
Only thing that didn't work was sound, glorious eggroll fixed that.

"WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dsound=n,b" %command%"
Installed the T7 patch.
When playing Origins, the game will freeze for like +10 seconds at a time. All other maps I have tried have worked with 0 issues.
Multiplayer seemed to work fine on most maps, its just Origins that is giving me problems.
Hopefully the Origins freezing issue gets patched at some point :(

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dsound=n,b" %command%
I installed the T7 patch because I heard it contains a few security and fps stutter patches.
I noticed on Origins, after hitting round 3, if you go to the spawn room and look at the zombie blood box the game will freeze. I was able to fix this issue by disabling ""Order Independent Transparency" in the menu. (all my other settings are on max graphics just fyi).
Have not experienced any freezing/crashes after changing this (at least not yet) :)
Played zombies with my friend. Had no issues (other than the annoying Origins bug, but I was able to fix that).
I recommend the T7 patch and disabling the ""Order Independent Transparency" setting to get the game running optimally.

Game is unstable without the community T7 patch
Played zombies and was able to do some high rounds
Works good, T7 patch prevents constant DLC checks which causes FPS to tank very frequently Use shader precaching if you're lagging, it saved me a ton of problems

Only see black screen and startup sound playing

Works perfectly, surprisingly runs even better than on windows. Only one very minor graphical bug
for some reason pack-a-punched guns become fully white

Funciona de maravilla, incluso con un rendimiento superior al que obtenía en windows, eso sí fue necesario activar gamemode para lograr esto

Played zombies online and didn't run into any issues. I did not try the normal multiplayer mode.
Played a zombies game with friends, didn't have any issues in person. I did not try the normal multiplayer mode.

You can play the game, but multiplayer is not allowed because it sometimes crashes. Campaign and Zombies modes work perfectly.
low quality
Multiplayer Crash
So laggy
Crash
I don't recommend playing this game on Linux; it's not a good experience.

Just be careful with tabbing out a bunch
When playing multiplayer zombies, tabbing out caused significant stuttering. It seemed to fix when other players came next to me though?
Played both Multiplayer and Zombies with friends, no issues at all

Things just kinda looked blurry at times
Runs flawlessly out of the box

should work on default settings but i put it mainly low settings for at least 3 hours

I'm using the t7 patch, the game will not launch even without it.
The game doesn't start properly(The game starts, it shows me the intro video, but after that the screen goes black, I used mangohud to see what's going on, and my cpu usage was VERY high).

Intro plays, after activision logo theres just a black screen with nothing else.
Other people here and on other platforms have reported the same thing; Hopefully future proton updates fix it
see: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/864 (bottom of page)

game runs fine now. No tinkering needed for me. Used proton experimental.
can lag a bit, but it might be because of my specs
Game downloads and I can see the intro. But after the intro, the screen goes black.

Using t7patch https://github.com/shiversoftdev/t7patch to fix stutters in main menu (on both windows and linux).
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dsound=n,b" %command%
High chance of crashing during high zombies rounds (around 20-25+). Haven't seen crashes related to this since switching to GE Proton. Running OBS Studio (using NDI) causes random hard lockups from time to time.
Playing online with friends didn't cause any unique issues.
Only played zombies and haven't tried campaign or multiplayer.
