I had to drop a few settings from ultra to high to get a consistent 60 FPS at 3440x1440
I had used the trick from the Widescreen Gaming Forum to enable a 21:9 (3440x1440) aspect ratio. This worked fine until I reached one of the last chapters, when it crashed and then reported that the save was corrupted. But verifying the integrity of the game cache fixed the issue and I was able to finish the game at a 16:9 (2560x1440) aspect ratio.
At 3440x1440, I had to drop the graphics to low to keep from dropping below 60 FPS.
At 3440x1440 I get around 60-70 FPS with Max graphics, and 70-80 FPS with Ultra graphics
I tried using the launch option PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
to enable DLSS, but that caused the game to consistenly freeze video at the start of the scene after the title is displayed and need to be force stopped.
Runs at 140+ FPS at 3440x1440 with everything set to max and the Vulkan API. I have experienced a couple of crashes, mostly when entering/exiting rune trials. I started the save on a different computer (a laptop with an Intel i7, GTX 1070, Ubuntu 16.04, and Nvidia 390) and got 60-75 FPS at 3440x1440. On the laptop I got a black screen on the opening video.
The game does not start if Antialiasing is set to 8x. I didn't try 4x, but 2x works just fine. The game also starts with sound disabled, but a quick trip to the settings fixes that. I haven't encountered any other issues, and it runs at 100+ FPS.
PROTON_DISABLE_NVAPI=1 DXVK_NVAPI_DRIVER_VERSION=56070 %command%
Bright green & red lights come out of a wound on a specific character in cutscenes
Out of the box the game was refusing to start because I have Nvidia driver 560.35.03, and the game requires driver version 560.70. With the launch options I am able to bypass this check and play the game.
Works great most of the time, but be prepared to restart the game
I encountered several severe model stretching, including once that covered the entire screen and needed to go to the title and reload to fix. Most of the time the models load correctly
The game froze and needed to be restarted once when initially saving settings and when finishing the first main cutscene. When I reloaded I skipped the custscene and it continued fine.
I don't know if the issues are occuring in general or just in Proton. It worked fine in Proton 8 and 9 beta, but failed to start in Protom Experimental.
Works without multiplayer and making some file changes
The controller only works if you plug it in before starting the game. I don't know if this is an issue on Windows or not.
At 3440x1440 with an RX 6900XT at maximum settings I was getting around 40 FPS in the open world, when from what I've seen this GPU should be able to handle 4K 60FPS at maximum.
Easy Anticheat doesn't work, the workaround disables all multiplayer functionality. I assume this will eventually get fixed, since there was a commit to Proton to fix the EOS dll case sensitivity issue, and its been marked as Steam Deck verified.
Several big issues exist with the game right now, which may or may not get fixed soon
Motion blur is still present even though I disabled it in settings
When I launch the game it prompts to install Visual C++ Runtime, after installing that the game runs. Then next time it prompts again, but accepting it has an uninstall window, after uninstalling the Visual C++ Runtime the game still runs. The next time after that it'll prompt to install the Visual C++ runtime, etc...
It runs, but performs horribly at anything but street view or the maximum zoomed out position on globe view. It crashes on startup load if PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 is set, and both PROTON_NO_D3D11=1 and PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 do nothing. You're also unable to open the Steam overlay in game, so the only option to exit it is to take off your headset and exit on the computer.
The game wouldn't start unless I ran https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install, even in Proton 5.13
The game crashed 2 times in 35 hours of playtime
Works out of the box
At 3440x1440 with an AMD 5700XT GPU and Ryzen 5800X CPU at low graphics (besides texture and model quality) it usually stays at 50FPS, with a few locations rising to 60FPS or dropping (none so far with any combat) to 30-40 FPS.
I had also tried it with the same resolution, GPU, and settings and a Ryzen 3100 CPU and had gotten 20 FPS then.
Worked out of the box
To keep a consistent 60FPS at 3440x1440, I had to drop the graphics to medium.
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
It crashes on startup on Proton 7.0.4.I also get an alert on startup about an unsupported graphics driver version. Without PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=1 I also get another alert about an unsupported GPU. Performance is improved with PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1.
During the Fisk mission during one of the tutortial sections the controller stopped working besides the menu button. Later during the mission it froze, requiring me to kill it. After the Fisk mission I haven't experienced any issues.
The game crashes when starting in Proton 7.0. In Proton Experimental it occasionally crashes as well when starting, but restarting works. I also get a warning that my GPU is below the minimum requirements when starting, but I can ignore it.
Proton-6.8-GE-2 GloriousEggroll (https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.8-GE-2) GloriousEggroll
Proton 6.8-GE-2 is needed to run this. I've experienced the game freezing when using Shift-Alt-Tab to open the Steam Overlay. I've only played Mass Effect 1 so far.
Works well out of the box
I had to lower the graphics to medium to get a consistent 100 FPS at 3440x1440. At high graphics it ran at ~70 FPS, but dropped all the way to mid 20 FPS on the Tempest
Alt-tabbing worked perfectly as soon as I switched from Fullscreen to Windowed Fullscreen. Sometimes when I run the game the Steam overlay is present, sometimes it isn't. I'm not able to disable the Origin overlay, as that option is locked when playing and Origin too quickly after exiting the game
The videos play a black screen and no audio, and gameplay display a black screen. Only the menus work. Disabling Esync or using Wine D3D11 do nothing, it doesn't start when disabling D3D11.
The game doesn't support anything but 16:9 aspect ratios, so there will be some small black bars on the top and bottom
I think the performance issues may be only with Nvidia, since I was able to get acceptable performance on my steam deck.
I didn't have any significant issues until the VR sections. Both VR sections I tried on my PC ran as expected for a few seconds, then dropped to 1FPS. The second dungeon was also running at extremely low FPS when not in a conversation. I did try lowering the resolution to 720P and setting all graphics options to the lowest, which didn't fix anything.
This isn't Linux specific, but the game only supports 16:9 resolutions, but the highest resolutions it supports are 1080p and 2160p. On my 3440x1440 monitor I had to run it windowed at 1080p
With Proton 6.3-8 there was a pre-rendered video about 10 hours in. Proton 6.5-GE-2 has previously made these videos work and Nier Replicant still works with Proton 6.5-GE-2, so I will finish the game with the Glorious Eggroll proton instead
Getting a consistent 60 FPS. Had to limit anti-aliasing to 2x or else I'd get visual glitches that made it unplayable, otherwise it works perfectly.
Disabling Esync I get 70-90 FPS at medium settings at 3440x1440. Without the PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 flag it ran at 30-40 FPS.
It occasionally crashes when entering a new area (mission boss area, or, respawning).

Pre-rendered videos/cutscenes don't play, but rendered ones do.
The controller's left joystick worked. Everything else didn't. Enabling Steam Input broke even that
Proton Glorious Eggroll 6.5-GE-2
Game runs at around 50 FPS
Videos didn't work on Proton 6.3-5, Proton Experimental, and several GloriousEggroll versions I tried. Only Proton GE 6.5-GE-2 rendered videos
Framerate would decrease after alt-tabbing out and back in
Performance is lower than I expected
Runs really well, although the framerate could be better. I get ~60-70FPS at 3440x1440, all graphics max except for no upscaling.
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
At 3440x1440, I had to lower graphics to medium and enable balanced DLSS for ~80 FPS. Although the performance issues seem to exist on Windows too
Proton Experimental is needed for the game to run. The launch options I listed was needed for DLSS to work, but the raytracing option was still disabled.
Only issue is that fullscreen doesn't work with KDE panels. I need to set the panels to auto-hide, then disable and re-enable fullscreen for it to work.
Issues I've noticed: Graphics settings don't do anything (haven't tried registry edits). Crashes when exiting. VR with the HTC VIve is completely unplayable, as you perform actions such as picking up items.
Sometimes I had launched the game alt-tabbing would only allow me one click on another app before returning to the game
I had to lower graphics to medium to keep FPS consistently over 60 at 3440x1440
There is a short splash video on launch that failed to load on Proton 6.3-6. It worked on Proton 6.5-GE-2
Been playing several hours, and I'm able to run it at 60-70 FPS with everything set to Ultra except for Hairworks at 3440x1440. Hair doesn't work properly with Hairworks on, that's the only issue I've found.
Contracts don't load, so you are unable to play the game. Also, I don't know if it's a problem on Windows too but there's no 21:9 aspect ratio resolutions. Everything else seems to work fine, it's just this one issue preventing gameplay.
I had to add the following launch option to start directly in the hub to prevent crashing on startup: vrchat://launch?id=wrld_b51f016d-1073-4c75-930d-9f44222c7fc3:7085 Other than that, it'll often go down to 45FPS on crowded worlds and it hangs when trying to load some worlds.
