Works perfectly with some initial tinkering (Limiting RAM to 8GB, adding launch arguments, HEX-replacing the framerate-cap)
WINE_ALERT_SIMULATE_SCHED_QUANTUM=1 cgexec -g memory:nep %command%
Had to manually adjust controller input in the menu
The game stutters with my 32 GB of RAM.
Here is a workaround that works for me: First, you need to setup some cgroups. This will work differently according to your OS. Here is what I did on manjaro, ymmv:
- install
cgcreate
(cgroup-tools
on debian,libcgroup
in AUR, ...) - add
cgroup_enable=memory swapaccount=1
to your kernel-arguments (consult your distro's docs on how to do this) - on each boot you want to run this game, run the following in a terminal:
sudo cgcreate -g memory:nep
sudo 'echo 8G > /sys/fs/cgroup/nep/memory.max'
sudo chown -R $(whoami) /sys/fs/cgroup/
- Set the steam launch args to
WINE_ALERT_SIMULATE_SCHED_QUANTUM=1 cgexec -g memory:nep %command%
- If you don't want the black models:
- Using a HEX-Editor, remove the framerate limit (https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Megadimension_Neptunia_VIIR#High_frame_rate) - I used bless - search for
41 55 55 85 41
and replace it with41 71 1C 87 40
- Note: this will still cap your framerate at 60 FPS, but the game will display the correct models... somehow.
- Using a HEX-Editor, remove the framerate limit (https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Megadimension_Neptunia_VIIR#High_frame_rate) - I used bless - search for
Now it runs butter smooth, even with overkill hardware. Enjoy!

WINE_ALERT_SIMULATE_SCHED_QUANTUM=1 %command%
This Command is Required to tell the game to ignore specific Calls and get the game to just run smoothly. IF Games from this era tend to either need this Command or a Command to limit the Game to only use 2 CPU Cores

WINE_ALERT_SIMULATE_SCHED_QUANTUM=1 %command%
不使用WINE_ALERT_SIMULATE_SCHED_QUANTUM=1
环境变量会严重卡顿无法游玩
not playable

With the constant stuttering throughout all menus and gameplay, it is not a pleasant experience.
Game would stutter for a good almost half second every few seconds
Will update my report after trying older proton versions, GE Proton did not help.

Deleting a save is frustrating. I switched to offline mode, copied the template system saves from the game directory over the userdata ones, and had to resync to the cloud after starting a new game offline. The game checks online data to see how many saves you 'should' have, and keeps placeholder saves even after deleting them.
This wouldn't be an issue, but I encountered a critical bug where my first save file would save over my second save file. I recommend only keeping one save file for this game in order to avoid this issue.
Game renders internally at 1080p regardless of resolution setting. Unlike VII, no community mod exists to fix this, and hex-editing the .exe resulted in a lowered rendering resolution but with various visual glitches (not recommended). Overall performance is inconsistent between 30 and 45 FPS.
I recommend 40Hz and 40FPS caps, with TDP limited to ~11 watts. The game chews through battery in the 3D segments with total consumption of ~20W/h.
I think the performance issues may be only with Nvidia, since I was able to get acceptable performance on my steam deck.
I didn't have any significant issues until the VR sections. Both VR sections I tried on my PC ran as expected for a few seconds, then dropped to 1FPS. The second dungeon was also running at extremely low FPS when not in a conversation. I did try lowering the resolution to 720P and setting all graphics options to the lowest, which didn't fix anything.
This isn't Linux specific, but the game only supports 16:9 resolutions, but the highest resolutions it supports are 1080p and 2160p. On my 3440x1440 monitor I had to run it windowed at 1080p
The game doesn't support anything but 16:9 aspect ratios, so there will be some small black bars on the top and bottom

Install xact via Protontricks, otherwise sound effects won't work. Also installed DXVK for missing visuals. Also installed Media Foundation just in case.

As already reported, game is tagged as Unsupported for Steam Deck but it still works fine. The VR part is probably what brought Valve to sort it as not supported. This is still not an issue as VR part can be displayed in a no-VR mode. With default settings, the game will get inconsistent 30-45fps. Capping to 30fps or 40Hz is the way to go. Disabling post-processing will boost you to 60fps at the expense of visual quality.

Black screen on launch
From what i could find it's a random issue caused by some combinations of hardware and codecs (or the lack of certain ones) which also happens with Windows. So it might work for other people, it didn't work for me though. Tried 7.10-GE, experimental and 7.0-1 official proton versions.

Capping to 30FPS
Character textures randomly go black in a dungeon, although this happens very rarely.
As I'm reporting, this game is listed as "unsupported", however the game just worked for me out of the box! Maybe it was given that status because the VR part doesn't work with a real VR headset, although the entire game can be played without a VR headset.. Setting the 30FPS on QAS gives a battery life of almost 4 hours btw.
Same as other IF games, installed Windows DLL “xact_64” and added “xactengine3_7” as native,builtin to Libraries list in winecfg through protontricks
Same as my previous report, that sometimes the character textures will just render black. Not sure if that's a game related bug.
Had my CPU governor set as powersave by default in this Linux distro, this killed my FPS by over 30%. Enabling gamemode or messing with CoreCtlr helps setting the governor back to full power.

Needs winetricks applied in the following order: cinepak, faudio, xact_x64
In very few areas, character textures will be rendered completely black.
Setting Offscreen Rendering to BackBuffer might help with stability.
Almost everything works, except...
Some or most of the sound that is needed for the game is missing. No menu/user interface SFX, battle SFX, and worst of all, no voice dialogue on event screen and on VR event.
It only crashes when you frequently switching windows to another.
Pretty much fine on my PC,but.....
Dub voice and some effect sounds are missing
If you dont mind with missing a voice dub and you would be fine to playing it right now, 60 fps of all time

Tried with GE proton but the result are same
Does not work at all~

Doesn't launch.

Sound doesn't work at all, and the events get stuck once a while, but they can skipped when that happens.

Currently there is no sound: sound worked before some game updates. Disgraceful performance in game play, 1 (one) FPS. Possibly a Vulkan extension will be created to correct this.
