Requires manual update intervention because the EA App sucks donkey balls but will run perfectly fine after that with the cursor fix mod
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" gamemoderun %command%
steamapps/compatdata/1238000/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/user_.ini added line " user.igoenabled=0 "
Game switches to windowed when alt tabbing, changing to fullscreen window seems to fix
Game will lag in proton 9 and experimental without fix https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectandromeda/mods/578
Game will not launch (crashes after preparing launch) unless you manually move EA App files from compatdata/1238000/pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/StagedEADesktop/EA Desktop/ to compatdata/1238000/pfx/drive_c/Program Files/Electronic Arts/EA Desktop/EA Desktop/ overwriting all existing files will finally get it to launch

Worked perfetly fine after I let vulkan shaders to compile.
Bluetooth headphones sometimes switch quality whilst playing
Runs quite well, no significant stutter. ~80 fps at ultra settings.

Use Proton Experimental, delete the 1238000 folder in compatdata, then start playing. That's the only way I could get the EA app to open.
Game keeps crashing even on medium graphic setting. Had to use low setting.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" gamemoderun %command%
added user.igoenabled=0 to the user_*.ini file, to turn off EA overlay, and had to download a cursor fix from nexusmods ( https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectandromeda/mods/578 )
Performance issues due to the cursor not being hidden in game. Installing the dll from nexusmods ( https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffectandromeda/mods/578 ), and adding the override to the command line fixed it.

You need the hide cursor fix.

It just works

The EA launcher will make your life miserable. Also, graphics settings are really picky.
Any settings above medium will make the game into a power point slide show.
The EA launcher will crap out for no other reason than being the EA launcher
Still runs better than on Windows (surprisingly).

PROTON_NO_XIM=1 gamemoderun %command%
Added "user.igoenabled=0" at the end in the "user_[id].ini" file to deactivate the origin overlay. Also deactivated the steam overlay via the game properties in steam itself.
After automatically connecting to the online service the microphone will be activated. This will decrease the audio quality ALOT. I set the games microphone device via my audio controller to a dummy device. This fixed all audio issues.
When entering a new area some textures will load slowly.
I need to play in window mode because the cursor will not disappear and the framerate drop to ~10 PFS in fullscreen mode.
I couldn't load a save game once.
Sometimes I get kicked out of a lobby right after joining.
Even with a lot of tinkering I can't get the game to run in fullscreen which is a bit annozing.

A month ago the game stopped loading after EA updated their launcher. The EA launcher has been updated again and now the game launches.
EA need to test their launcher before rolling it out, preventing you from playing something that was working fine the day before.

It's no fun playing this
Audio will crack most of the time. Volume will change randomly too.
All textures are loading very slow.
The cursor never disappeared when using fullscreen. When using Alt-Tab the game will switch to windowed mode automatically.
Even on low settings it will run with low FPS.
I can't use the steam overlay at all.

More struggle with ea launcher, and not be able to play without it. Switched to bordless because could not alttab from fullscreen (sometimes it crashed in fullscreen when you alttab).
Game plays good, nothing to tinker

Works well enough
EA app crashed out a few times

Terrible EA launcher ruins everything Despite there is workaround for nosound bug there is still sound glitches In my case it was very slow
when launch game in menu sound is perfectly fine after few moments it's starts some kind of crackling or echoing not sure how to describe and none of settings helpping with it when entering in actually play there is no sound absolutelly I have found what is it. In some reson games consider itself like background there is option to play sound when game on background and then will be sound in game...
when alt-tabbing it's always resseting to windowed mode tht's why I've vhanged it permanently to windowed
I don't know maybe it's my laptop mx150 4G but basically it is very slow no matter what settings even in lowest settings in windowed mode it is still like a slow time moving
Damn EA launcher crashes randomly. Usually fixed by changing proton version few times and after some moment it is able to launch
EA launcher simply one big bug
I don't think I will ever play it in such condition
Experienced a common issue where loading from the most recent save file may cause you to get stuck on the first loading screen on launch. To fix this issue, you need to load a prior save file, then load the most recent save file. This occurs every few sessions.
The intermediate Origin launcher sucks as usual but everything works.

The game used to work perfectly but I can't seem to install it now.
I tried to switch to Proton Experimental, Proton 7, GE, but none of it works. The EA app launches just fine but the game never boot up, even if you launch it through the damn EA App

Runs on Steamdeck, using an Arch-Distribution on PC/Laptop is paramount, because !!Install-and-run-EA-App-Script only runs on Arch!!
Runs smooth on all devices, high FPSs, quality sound. USE an Arch Distro

Impossible to get working
Giving up on this. It was a great game, but EA has made it unplayable.

dinput8.dll override to native is required (for details see giantplaceholder's report)
When using alt-tab the game changes to window mode and the resolution and the window size is significantly reduced. The game's menu still shows that it is fullscreen at 1440p. Only a restart fixes this.
Without the dll override moving the mouse while in game will slow the game down tremendously
By default the game uses Proton 8 which works a couple of times - and you do not need the override when using Proton 8 - but eventually the EA Launcher won't start anymore. You can then switch to Proton 9 or Experimental, launch the game, exit it and switch back to Proton 8, restart Steam and then it'll launch again for one or two starts.
If you try to play the game on Proton 9 or Experimental the DLL override is required as otherwise there is always a mouse cursor present in the center of the screen and everytime you move the mouse the game comes to a crawl.

Only noticed a tiny bit of weirdness when i switched windows and came back, had to press start to get the Joysticks detected again, but other than that one-off, it works great straight off a fresh install!
Worked just fine out of the box, even with the additional EA Launcher inbetween.

looking forward to the next ME installment

After Alt-Tab the game window was becoming small, switching to borderless instead of fullscreen fixed that.
The EA thing was getting stuck on black window with Proton 9 and 7 (deleting compatdata/1238000 did not help). Experimental seems to work fine.

Switch to Proton 7 so EA App can be installed, later you can freely switch to a newer version if you want to.
If you happen to find any more errors regarding the EA App (probably all errors are going to be related to it), delete the folder "steamapps/compatdata/1238000", then set Proton to version 7 and launch the game, by doing so the compatibility profile will be forcefully refreshed.
BEWARE any saved data not synced to EA cloud will be lost forever by doing so.
The game is playable, works as good as on Windows, but NOBODY should have to be manually fixing the EA crApp, it is ridiculous. If you don't have the EA crApp properly installed the game will refuse to start, and no error message will be shown to the user.
After some nvidia updates last year, it took forever to find the required launch options. This affected ALL EA games.
__NV_PRIME_RENDER_OFFLOAD=1 __GLX_VENDOR_LIBRARY_NAME=nvidia __VK_LAYER_NV_optimus=NVIDIA_only %command%

dinput8.dll override to native is required (details below)
Mouse pointer was present outside of the game menus, introducing heavy stuttering when panning the camera.
First and foremost - EA launcher app still sucks balls. I've played this game on Proton 7.0-5 a year and a half ago, so EA app was installed and launched without any issues. Now (June 2024) it simply refused to launch on that or any other version of the Proton until I removed the prefix in the compatdata. Then and only then EA app installed properly and allowed me to launch the game.
This is not specific to Andromeda itself: I had the same issue with ME Legendary and Burnout Paradise. It's just that EA app is still a horrible piece of software.
With that resolved, I was able to continue with my older saves, but unfortunately I've encountered a strange bug where mouse pointer would stay on the screen after navigating game menues or overlays (like reading a journal or opening a container). Afterwards the pointer stayed on the screen dead in the center, and every time I tried to move the camera with mouse, I've experienced heavy stuttering.
Although pointer was gone after an Alt-Tab, it would return after the next menu interaction, so I had to use this mod in order to fix this.
You'll need to copy dinput8.dll into the game's root directory (the one where MassEffectAndromeda.exe is located), and after that launch protontricks --gui, select the Andromeda's appid (123800), launch winecfg, and set up a manual override for dinput8.dll ("Native, than built-in").
The same can be achieved by launching the game with this launch options command: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
To be perfectly clear, this is a long-standing bug of the game itself, but I've never experienced it with Proton. Maybe it's GPU-dependent, maybe it's something else. In any event, this fix does the job.
Performance-wise, everything is top-notch (over 150 FPS on all-ultra @ UWFHD), which is to be expected, considering my hardware and the game's age.

Only the steam overlay does not work, as steam sees the EA launcher as the game itself.

Just some minor artifacts (typically in Frostbyte Engine) on some surfaces due to actual Intel MESA optimization (24.0.5) but things will definitely improve.

Played the entire campaign, no issues whatsoever
Worked out of the box, no special treatment needed.

EA app launches, but game doesn't
EA app says there's an error and doesn't allow the game to be launched. Also tried Proton Experimental, Proton 7 / 8 / 9 and GE-Proton9-2: some of these versions can't even open EA app, and the ones that open won't launch the game.

Literally did nothing and it plays just fine. I might try to iron out the crackles, but it's not that bothersome, honestly.
When stuttering, audio crackles.
Minor stuttering at times, generally only in parts of cutscenes.
worked out of the box with proton

EA Play completely borks the game in every version of Proton now.
Depending on your Proton version, EA Play either comes up after a long delay with a blank black box which is supposed to say "The EA app timed out" or "The EA app encountered an unknown error", or a non-black box that actually does say one of those things. The only option is to exit.

Flawless including with gamepad. Didn't shutdown fully first time, but did after that.
Didn't shutdown properly 1st time (had to click STOP in Steam), but did the 2nd and subsequent times.
Had to click STOP in Steam to shut it down first time after quitting in-game, but it shuts down fine since then.

Limit FPS at 48fps for smooth gameplay and decent battery life.
Updates in EA play (What used to be origin) can break the game on updates
Som text can be hard to read even at native resolution
FPS drops on heavy vegetation planet. Playable with inconsistent frame rate.
Cant enable and siable microphone at whim, I dont think this is a proton issue.
gamemoderun MANGOHUD=1 %command%
The game started to drop frames, changing the resolution or restarting the game solves this.
Played on the train. Runs at 60fps without any graphical sacrifice. No UI scale option in the game, most of the UI texts are a bit too small.
Can't be played offline, difficult to launch on slow internet connection, and cloud save are a mess with EA App, like on a Windows machine.
