I had to use Steam Tinker Launcher to install the Ubisoft Connect .exe as the one that's bundled with the game will not allow me to login. After it was installed the game worked flawlessly.
Install Steam Tinker Launcher
The Steam Tinker Launcher is avalible in the AUR and takes the hardwork out of finding the install folders for your steam games. After Steam Tinker Launcher is installed run
steamtinkerlaunch compat add
in terminal and it will appear in the compatibility list. All you have to do is download the latest Ubisoft Connect to your regular download location (Downloads folder) then select the "run one time" option. Select the .exe and it will install it to the container. There is no need to drop the installer into the game folder and rename it.

Controler was working but the game only gave instructions for keyboard and mouse. I had to turn the look X and Y axis sensitivity down to 1.
This worked perfectly with these launch options. I had to use Steam Tinker Launcher to side load the new Ubisoft connect EXE. It only seems to want to launch using GE Proton, but when it does it works perfectly. Not a problem. The controler is working, but the game never sees it as pluged in, but it works all the same. Because the help never shows up for the controler buttons I would sugest that this is best played with the keyboard and mouse.
It was working perfectly, but after update 2.0 the game will not launch.
I have not tried any launch option or other tweeks, but the game was working fine out of the box. I've almost completed it, but am unable to continue.
I normally have to use 7.0-6 because of my old hardware, but most games run well. There was some dialogue skipping and some freezing, but that was simply solved by transferring the install to the SSD.

After installing the game let it install the EA launcher and then try to run the game. It will error. Close the game and set the compatibility to Tinker Launcher and use the One Time Install option. Download the NVIDIA PhysX EXE from NVIDIA and run it with the one time install option. Switch back to Proton 9 and run the game again. It will launch.
You will need to import your game saves from Mass Effect 1. Find the "Mass Effect" folder in:
$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/17460/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/BioWare
and copy it into:
$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/2362420/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/My Documents/BioWare
Next switch the compatibility to Tinker Launcher and use the 1 time install and run the "MassEffect2Config.exe" found in:
$HOME/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Mass Effect 2 (2010) Edition/Binaries
Use the config app to copy the Mass Effect saves from:
C:\users\steamuser\My Documents\BioWare\Mass Effect
Close the app, switch back to Proton 9 and run the game. You should now see the option to import your old save from the "New Game" menu.
No Launch options are required as this will run out of the box. I only added these launch options as they prevented a graphics stutter I was experiencing.
The game will not launch unless you follow the tinker steps, after which it will work perfectly.

You need to import your save games from the Mass Effect 1 prefix to the new Mass Effect 2 prefix.

I would suggest using the "MassEffect2Config.exe" to setup your desired graphics settings. The game runs flawlessly when you follow the giude above using Nvidia GPUs.
I had a problem a couple of weeks ago when the EA loader updated, but now it works fine after deleting the comp data folder. I used to have to use some options, but now it runs fine with none. It wouldn't run a couple of weeks ago.
Switched to 6.3-8
A month ago the game stopped loading after EA updated their launcher. The EA launcher has been updated again and now the game launches.
EA need to test their launcher before rolling it out, preventing you from playing something that was working fine the day before.
Really cool game. It works out of the box on proton 7.0-5 and works with 1080p with all the graphics to maximum and zero FPS issues.
I would call this a Platinum game from my experiance.
Runs out of the box. It takes a few minutes to load.
After It shows you the first tutorial page Everything goes into slow motion, but it's cleared by pausing the game and unpausing it.
Great game. No real issues so far. Great game if you like sci-fi space shooters.
