No thinkering, just tried it in Fedora 42
Also works fine in Fedora 42 out of the box. Just used proton experimental, waited shaders load, game launched normally.

No thinkering, just use Proton Experimental
Everything work fine out of the box. No problem, or error. I used proton experimental, clicked play, waited for shader loading, and the game launched perfectly normal. Idk how recent people couldn't play it. I could play it normally with iGPU. I rated this game Platinum and its on sale, 85% off now as i make this review.

It plays fine
There are a lot of broken reports below. I am not sure what is going on with their systems, but my experience was flawless. I didn't change my Proton or add any launch options, I just installed the game and press the play button, and it worked like it should. It is a little slow to start the game, but not 5 minutes like the others are saying, it's more like 20–30 seconds.

Fails to launch
Unplayable. Starts processes CodeVein.exe and CodeVein-Win64-Shipping.exe, but game window never appears. Why is this rated platinum when it is completely broken?!?!

The game won't launch
The game says it is launching, there is the button "Stop" but there is no game window, and the processes of the game use a constant amount of memory so they seem frozen

Cant run because of a .net 4.8 installation that cant normally install on linux

I tried a lot of versions of proton and ge proton, a lot of commands, installations of .net and bottles but nothing worked, it's something about the .net 8.4.1 that cant normally be installed on linux
I tried a lot of stuff, bottles, different versions of proton and ge proton, .net installation and more stuff and nothing worked, after 91 minutes trying to run it I give up.
tela cheia cai o fps
Game is completely unplayable, doesn't get past a black screen after the splash, if it can even get that far.

Everything is good, but it takes about 5 min to start. Don't touch your computer in this 5 min.
I use default 9.0-3 proton. When you click start the game in steam, it takes about 5 min to start the game. Remember don't touch your computer in this 5 min, including switching tabs, run any other programs, etc. Game runs smooth, framerate is even higher than windows.

Fails to launch
Sometimes shows a denovu limit error, but even then doesn't launch. Once showed a splash screen after a 5 minute wait, but then proceeded to die.

The game is enjoyable to play casually with a bot or a friend, trying to solo everything is a path of pain and suffering.

Post-processing and Effects quality were the most demanding settings on my pc, reducing both to minimum effectively eliminated the lag
The game has it's own list problems that have nothing to do with Proton or Wine, the compatibility is excellent. But this "Waifu Souls" shows huge ammounts of wasted potential, already while doing the story for the first time - but specially while going to get all achievements.
As soon as the game logos load in, FPS drops to 1 fps, making it impossible to proceed with anything, including graphic settings change.

The game takes around 5 minutes to start without showing a window or giving any feedback, then a loading screen shows up and freezes for a couple more minutes, but once the game has started it works perfectly.

Code Vein runs well with some problems (it could be that those are also present on Win though)
Game needed to be restarted a few times until the controller (PS4) work, despite it being recognized
When entering a new area the fps dropped for a short while
In rare instances the game froze for up to a minute at a time, but it happened only 4 times.

The game's FPS would lower significantly when entering a new area. This occured no mater the graphical setting or version of Proton used. This would also occasionally happen during regular gameplay. The game also froze for around 10-15 seconds 3 times. Twice was during a specific bossfight (game logic didn't continue while frozen, so afterwards I was able to continue the fight with no problem), and once was, weirdly, near the beggining of a cutscene.
Works well more than enough of the time to make it a good way to experience the game.
Works OOTB, enjoy!

Limited frame rate to 40FPS and screen refresh to 40Hz
Crashed a few times when I had menus open and entered combat.
works out of box

dlmopen steamservice.so failed: steamservice.so: cannot open
[2023-11-06 21:31:26] Nothing to do
Works perfectly fine out of the box

Unreal Engine crashes at random
Game is impossible to play. Unreal crashes happen randomly, with most happening before a save can be loaded or new character created.

While it's running, it plays perfect at 1080p. Occasionally Unreal Engine runs into an error that causes the game to crash.
Game randomly crashes due to an Unreal Engine error.
The first time you select New Game has to be in online mode or the game crashes. Once you've reached the name or character customization screen, you can back out and start a new game in offline mode without crashing.

Feels Natice
No issues that I ran into, though I haven't finished the game yet. Plays great

Great oob experience

Framerate capped at 30fps to lower the fan noise. 40fps/40hz also works but the fan is significantly louder.
Game can be played from start to finish on Steam Deck through Proton with little to no issues, although at lowest graphics settings with framerate set to 30fps/40fps.
The game works out of the box
The game works very well and can run at 4k max settings at 40 to 60fps.
Nearly Perfect
The game did not recognize my PS5 controller until I went into Steam settings to enable Steam Input. Then it worked! Before I did that, the wired Xbox 360 controller worked OOTB, but I didn't want to use that one as it's a bit old and mushy.
Plays great out the box, stuttering when entering a new area
As others have noted, the game stutters and occasionally freezes for a short time when new areas are entered. The cause appears to be the pre-caching, which causes heavy disk usage. My solution was just to wait until the disk light stopped flashing before proceeding.
The only issue is the occasional stuttering and freezing that others have noted. Solution is simple - just wait a bit until it's smooth again. Never happened to me in a fight, although you need to be careful in intermediate areas where you can fall off.
Game works on the steam deck but will crash for no reason with the logs showing no signs of an error.

I reinstall arch just for this to work but was met with disappointment after the second time I tried opening the game
Played through the game withoout any issues at all.
What can I say? The game is great I definetly recommend playing it if you like the anime style

Stuttering like crazy when loading a new Area. It killed me way too much cause I wasn't able to react same with bosses but once everything is loaded it works perfectly on high settings
Text is hard to read when you're on handheld mode, this gets solved when you move to docked.
By lowering all the graphics in game I was able to play in 60FPS, I don't know if you can push the graphics even further and still keep it all solid just expect the console to be at +70°C if you do so.
Make sure to use the built-in FPS limiter of your deck, this makes the game look smoother when you go down to 40-30 frames.
