Game runs fine.
Atomic Heart runs fine right out of the box. No tinkering/forced compatibility.

Absolutely fantastic experience.
Not only does this game run out of the box on vanilla Proton (as I've come to expect for most UE games), but it also performs very, very well. I ran this on a 3440x1440 resolution, with most settings maxed out, on a 100Hz monitor with FSR set to the Quality preset (in order to maintain a nice and stable 100fps). This made for a very pleasant experience. The framerate stayed pretty much even for the entire game, and the frame pacing was rock solid. Everything felt silky smooth and looked sharp and clear. On top of that, this is also a superb looking game in its own right (thanks in no small part due the developer relying more on the talent of the artists than on GPU taxing rendering techniques).
A small tip for those looking to play this: don't play with the English dub, it's awful and annoying. Switch to the Russian track, which is not only more immersive, but much better.

On first launch, after playing for about 30 minutes, the game's performance tanked hard and became unplayable - I ended up having to reboot the entire computer as even though I could alt+tab out of, everything was so poorly responsive I couldn't even manage to kill the game.
As long as you wait for shaders to finish compiling, game should run just fine.

Not related to Linux but I use an AZERTY keyboard and the input are "bugged". On a QWERTY keyboard it's W to walk in front and to move the car, you cannot put Z on both unless you use an Hexadecimal editor and edit the file located in .steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/668580/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/AtomicHeart/Saved/SaveGames/SavedSettings.sav
, then it works.

Perfect out of the box
Worked fine once I turned the graphics settings to low. Still looks great
Recommended if you can get it on sale

Playing this in Kali will make it more tinker prone than playing it in Debian or any of its derivatives, so even if I think that you need to tinker in Kali, you probably don't in Debian. I have a integrated and a dedicated graphics card so that was the first step, DRI_PRIME=1 was necessary for me, else I would be using the not so great integrated GPU.

worked without any problems using proton 9.0-2
previously i had used "proton experiemental" and this led to the mouse being completely unfunctional in game and not being able to click in the "esc" menu
after playing with 9.0-2 this mouse bug did appear aswell 3 or so hours in when i pressed escape and entered the menu but it went back to normal after severasl seconds though and never appeared again... so only a minor inconvenience in this case!

without the mouse working and not being able to fix it in the "controls / keybind section of the in game settings" the game was unplayable
i couldnt look around using my mouse (mouse works in menu perfectly) but as soon as i start playing only the keyboard works > whats interesting is if i hit on escape while in game and select an option using the keyboard pressing enter or space also does nothing... so i cant take any action in the in-gamer menu with the keyboard aswell...
i will try different proton versions (here i was using "proton experiemental")
game works out of the box. no issues

Some polygons would turn to black at extreme angles but it might as well be a bug in game's culling implementation.

Love the story of Atomic Heart. Works perfect on Ubuntu 24.04
There are video recordings to showcase and give an idea how it works here:

Text is still kind of small, changing the size makes some of the words show up off the screen
After a few more updates, it runs on the steam deck perfectly again. Just wanted to update my report since 8-9 months ago it was borderline unplayable :)

Getting a mostly solid 60 with some drops on Balanced settings. Looks quite good. Used the Deck frame limiter set to 60. Getting an estimated 3.5 hours on OLED. Could probably optimize for battery length.

One of the first games I tried after switching to Linux, and I am seriously, madly impressed
I got scared in the menu when I got ~10fps, but the game just needed 15 minutes to compile shaders. Then pressed play—zero config needed—and now it's running like a charm

In the intro if FX setting is set to anything but low the lens flare will look like fog. After it can be turned back up.
when switching workspaces the cursor would stick on screen. repeating the action cleared it.
If your willing to turn down a few things (FX mainly) from time to time you should have no issues and be able to play as if it was native.

I really tried to get it to work and then just live with the freezing but I'm done I'm just gonna run win10 on an SD card for some games now
It's all incredibly difficult to read, if you use the new in game option to increase the size Of the display it doesn't fully load some subtitles and descriptions of items
Some crackling or skipping from time to time
When using a controller you cannot use some of the menu to upgrade your glove
Sometimes would lag until crash, most of the time it would completely freeze every 10 to 30 minutes, with the music still playing. I saw lots of others on Reddit and steam forums with this same issue
Froze every 10 to 30 minutes, completely unplayable but the music would still play in the background

runs perfectly out of the box

60-120+ fps max uw 1440p but some issues with shaders and crashes on launch
There are some weird issues on launch, possibly related to shader caching. On the first start everything was great, Steam and the game itself cached shaders, but now after some time (maybe afster switching Proton versions) the game starts with 2-10 fps in the main menu like when caching shadsers (but it only displays the progress with 0% for 1 sec) and it often crashes with "Out of video memory" error even though it seems like there is lots of free video memory. But if it manages to load the save then everything works fine (sometimes after 30 sec of stuttering), including reloading and going to a different location. Disabling the shader cache in the game settings makes it stutter all the time. Tried deleting ~/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/668580/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/AtomicHeart/Saved/Config/
, the shaders recompiled like on the first launch but the issue returned after relaunching the game (deleting the Config dir does not seem to affect the settings).
Works fine, 60-120 fps depending on location and no stuttering, but some weird issues on every launch.

Had to drop some settings from maximum to High as the shaders were taking forever to install and it was stuttering fairly badly. Swapping to slightly below maximum seemed to work better. Otherwise seemed to generally work fine.

Only Videos have the audio out of sync
In some very specific scenarios the button to start a sequence doesn't work. I had to change to mouse. I couldn't select the audios collected throughout the game from the menu neither.
there are some ocaccional ( although it is not the rule) crashes because the game says that it doesn have enough vram to allocate rendering resources (which is ridiculous I have 24gb vram).
videos and some crashes are unbearable without tinkering

Worked flawlessly out-of-the box.
Nothing to see here. Install, press play - worked great.

Is playable, without performance issues (Resizable BAR enabled), although the in-game videos in menus and tv's do not work, they are blank.
In exterior, the vegatation looks bad, and that's because the game only offers TAA antialiasing, which already sucks but sucks even more on "small" resolutions like 1080p... Turning off TAA is unwatchable.
TDP Limit 11W and 40 FPS
There are sometimes fps drops from 40 to 30.

Don't set too low TDP limit, it will cause a lot of video freezing, even system crash. 不要设置太低的TDP限制,会很容易导致画面卡死(声音正常),如果严重的话会导致死机。
TDP=10W, but the screen backlight must be high, because the Dark scenes are difficult to watch clearly. 设置10W TDP限制,但是屏幕背光需要比较高,因为黑暗的场景会看不清。
Half Rate Shading on will causes jagged images. 打开 可变速着色 会导致画面出现锯齿。
The game works fine, but also a battery killer
OOTB Smooth Gameplay Max Everything!
Install, run, let shaders install, enjoy!
