UE4 Crash, not because of proton likely could happen to windows and it happened once
15.5 Hours of playtime

gamemoderun gamescope -f -r 120 -W 3840 -H 2160 --hdr-enabled --force-grab-cursor --hdr-debug-force-output -- %command%
Finished the game and DLCs in 4k with HDR. 1 or 2 crashes, but stable the rest of the time.

The game runs at 40-50 fps no matter what settings are selected. I tried everything from the lowest settings at 800x600 with FSR ultra performance to everything maxed out at 4K with FSR off. The settings change but the frame rate does not. I tried several different proton versions and various command line options list here including dx11. Nothing worked,

Tweaking the settings does absolutely nothing — performance is atrocious. Even at Full HD with everything turned down to low, it still runs like garbage.
Subtitles have artifacts too using -dx11 fixed that problem, but performance didn’t improve. Can’t recommend it. I’ve already returned it on Steam.

Problem with video playback
Launches and menu is working fine. Crashes during first loading screen with error: aacparse gstaacparse.c:358:gst_aac_parse_sink_setcaps: Need codec_data for raw AAC.

Tried different Proton versions but none is able to start the game
can not recommend
Worked great without any tinkering! Runs buttery smooth @4k120fps+

Все летает. Ставьте umu-launcher, друзья

Keyboard or mouse not responding sometimes and need to restart the game.
I tried Proton Experimental and GE-Proton 10. Controls are not working properly. Unplayable.

with decky loader fsr 3.0 patch played 90 fps on the middle-high graphics

answer selection key not working - ok on windows
low fps rates / faible taux de fps
faible taux de fps comparé à windows / les touches pour répondre aux pnj ne fonctionnent pas, contrairement à windows, j'ai joue au jeu sur windows
low fps compared to windows / buttons to answer pnj don't work, unlike windows, I played the game on windows

-dx11
use launch option -dx11 to fix flickering light artifacts

Game runs fine.
Atomic Heart runs fine right out of the box. No tinkering/forced compatibility.

Absolutely fantastic experience.
Not only does this game run out of the box on vanilla Proton (as I've come to expect for most UE games), but it also performs very, very well. I ran this on a 3440x1440 resolution, with most settings maxed out, on a 100Hz monitor with FSR set to the Quality preset (in order to maintain a nice and stable 100fps). This made for a very pleasant experience. The framerate stayed pretty much even for the entire game, and the frame pacing was rock solid. Everything felt silky smooth and looked sharp and clear. On top of that, this is also a superb looking game in its own right (thanks in no small part due the developer relying more on the talent of the artists than on GPU taxing rendering techniques).
A small tip for those looking to play this: don't play with the English dub, it's awful and annoying. Switch to the Russian track, which is not only more immersive, but much better.

On first launch, after playing for about 30 minutes, the game's performance tanked hard and became unplayable - I ended up having to reboot the entire computer as even though I could alt+tab out of, everything was so poorly responsive I couldn't even manage to kill the game.
As long as you wait for shaders to finish compiling, game should run just fine.

Not related to Linux but I use an AZERTY keyboard and the input are "bugged". On a QWERTY keyboard it's W to walk in front and to move the car, you cannot put Z on both unless you use an Hexadecimal editor and edit the file located in .steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata/668580/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/AppData/Local/AtomicHeart/Saved/SaveGames/SavedSettings.sav
, then it works.

Perfect out of the box
Worked fine once I turned the graphics settings to low. Still looks great
Recommended if you can get it on sale

Playing this in Kali will make it more tinker prone than playing it in Debian or any of its derivatives, so even if I think that you need to tinker in Kali, you probably don't in Debian. I have a integrated and a dedicated graphics card so that was the first step, DRI_PRIME=1 was necessary for me, else I would be using the not so great integrated GPU.

worked without any problems using proton 9.0-2
previously i had used "proton experiemental" and this led to the mouse being completely unfunctional in game and not being able to click in the "esc" menu
after playing with 9.0-2 this mouse bug did appear aswell 3 or so hours in when i pressed escape and entered the menu but it went back to normal after severasl seconds though and never appeared again... so only a minor inconvenience in this case!

without the mouse working and not being able to fix it in the "controls / keybind section of the in game settings" the game was unplayable
i couldnt look around using my mouse (mouse works in menu perfectly) but as soon as i start playing only the keyboard works > whats interesting is if i hit on escape while in game and select an option using the keyboard pressing enter or space also does nothing... so i cant take any action in the in-gamer menu with the keyboard aswell...
i will try different proton versions (here i was using "proton experiemental")
game works out of the box. no issues

Some polygons would turn to black at extreme angles but it might as well be a bug in game's culling implementation.

Love the story of Atomic Heart. Works perfect on Ubuntu 24.04
There are video recordings to showcase and give an idea how it works here:

Text is still kind of small, changing the size makes some of the words show up off the screen
After a few more updates, it runs on the steam deck perfectly again. Just wanted to update my report since 8-9 months ago it was borderline unplayable :)

Getting a mostly solid 60 with some drops on Balanced settings. Looks quite good. Used the Deck frame limiter set to 60. Getting an estimated 3.5 hours on OLED. Could probably optimize for battery length.

One of the first games I tried after switching to Linux, and I am seriously, madly impressed
I got scared in the menu when I got ~10fps, but the game just needed 15 minutes to compile shaders. Then pressed play—zero config needed—and now it's running like a charm

In the intro if FX setting is set to anything but low the lens flare will look like fog. After it can be turned back up.
when switching workspaces the cursor would stick on screen. repeating the action cleared it.
If your willing to turn down a few things (FX mainly) from time to time you should have no issues and be able to play as if it was native.
