Amazing game with as good as native experience
Runs like out of the (native) box. And a damn great game on top of that, too.
Runs amazingly. Is graphical amazing to watch and just feels right on that little wonder deck!
Install Ubisoft Connect (app)
You need protontricks and just install Ubisoft Connect (app) within the same proton (as in wine) prefix. After that the game is happy that it can communicate with its French overlords and you are in for tons and tons of old school Anno fun!

Borked at the moment
Installed Ubisoft Connect
Doesn't seem to recognize Ubisoft Connect. Doesn't start. Just shuts down. 1602 and 1503 (both History) are running well. Maybe its also the GPU, but I've seen Let's Plays on YouTube with 1701 History and the UHD 620 ...
Plug and Play - it just runs out of the box, even Multiplayer!
There is absolutely no bump on the road. Download the game. Start it. Enjoy it to the fullest!
Perfect experience as it would be expected from a native game binary
I am using GE-Proton globally. Thus I am not considering this a tinker setup. Besided a very long initial start (approx 3 minutes) the game ran flawlessy!
Downloaded the game, started it, launched into working state without any hassle. No graphical issues. No audio stuttering. Just pure joy to play this gem :)
Sadly can't join the fun :(
gamemoderun DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command% -nosplash
Even adding the startup parameters Steam kept crashing when loading the game taking the game with it. Will update my review once I've found a way to play it.
After updating my gpu driver I had no issues at all. Game started and run smoothly as it would be an native app.
gamemoderun DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command% -nosplash
Played in a full group of four without issues

Perfect experience on local multiplayer, haven't played it online ever
Works out of the box. Playing regularly with 4 players on four controllers. Awesome experience, gets even better with Duck Game Rebuilt from the workshop (better performance, many more option, free unlocks and so on)
Worked perfectly back when I had the OG version on my GameBoy as a boy and also works perfect on my Steam Deck these days. What a great little gem <3
Always using GE-Proton. So I am not considering this a tinkerer report. Worked like a charm on my Steam Deck - highly recommending even though I am not into Dark Souls or Metroidvania. Absolute adore the Dark Fantasy setting!

Somehow I can't get the controlls to work without GE Proton. But with I always have a blast playing it and enjoying my trip down memory lane :)
PYROVEIL=1 PYROVEIL_CONFIG=/path/to/pyroveil/hacks/ffvii-rebirth-nvidia/pyroveil.json %command%
HansKristian-Work, the vkd3d-proton dev, found a working fix for NVidia with adding PYROVEIL which replaces shaders or roundtrip them via SPIRV-Cross -> glslang. You can find install instructions here: https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/pyroveil His comment on the Proton issue is located here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8408#issuecomment-2657340142
This is a pure tinker solution from/for me for the first time in many, many years! Excited to see how this can be added within Proton in the future. Or if we really need to use PYROVEIL until it is fixed on a driver level. But for now we can finally play FF7R-2 on NVidia cards on Linux this way :)
Just make sure to put the PYROVEIL=1 option before(!) PYROVEIL_CONFIG. Check my command above for a detailed example.
The day has finally come: We can play Final Fantasy VII Rebirth on Linux and NVidia hardware without tinkering thanks to driver version 570.133.07-1
. Pyroveil, while being a god sent, isn't needed anymore. So it was an driver issue as HansKristian-Work stated 2 months ago!
Amazing performance and runs out of the box
Hard to believe how far Linux gaming has come. New game, console port as well. And just runs out of the box as it would have been a native app! Thanks to everyone being involved in this!
Amazing game and runs perfectly on the little machine. Super happy with the experience and can't stop playing!
Given that proton-cachyos is pretty much the standard Proton version in the Distro I'll see this as a non tinker report
Since CachyOS has the DLSS Frame Gen fixes already applied the HUD is prone to heavy ghosting. It's amazing that we have Frame Gen now, but isn't fully there yet. Just deactivate it and you are good to go!
Game runs also well with normal Proton. GE-Proton and - in this case - proton-cachyos will just give it that extra boost in performance. It basically feels like a native game: Easy plug and play. Love playing it under Linux on my big rig :)
It's just plug and play! For such a AAA title which has so many issues on my pc with a 4090 ... love to play this on the small screen!
Very low fps - keep in mind that it just started into early access and that therte are issue reports on Windows as well
SteamDeck=1 %command%
Had to switch from proton-cachy to GE-Proton and restart Steam in order to get rid of the connectivity error 5. After that a flawless experience!
Perfect experience with Max under the tux
Downloaded it, started it and went right back to 2001 when this classic began. What a game - do yourself a favor an play it!
I've set GE=Proton for all my library. Wouldn't deem it a tinker setup. However, Game ist running flawlessly and I do enjoy every minute of this sad and magical story!
Perfect experience - just wanted to test it and ended with a full run
Just wanted to test the game and what can I say? I've ended up running the full game ... again! No speedrun by any chance, but taking approx 2 1/2h running it. Had a perfect experience, no issues at all. As it would have been a native app!
Runs just perfectly like a native app - great performance and no problems at all!
Runs as well as under Windows - start the game, form a party with a friend and get going!
Not had issues at all - runs perfectly fine up to the point where a lot of enemies occur. But even then it stays playable. Perfect experience on the little wonder machine in my books!

I've started the game without even setting any proton version specifically on this game. Just GE-Proton 9.20 on the whole library/Steam. Started, played from start to the appartments without any issue. Wonderfull game and wonderfull Linux compatibility!
All I did was changing the renderer to Vulkan and limit the FPS to 60 and I were good to go. No issue whatsoever playing on a dedicated server. Essentially just click and play!
Perfect vanilla experience on Steam Deck just with a bit off feeling control scheme - community layouts to the resque!
Besides the controls felt a bit off with L2 being Left Click and R2 being Right Click (which is otherwise normal, just not for a game) the game run perfectly fine. Just downloaded the most used community layout (Steam Deck - Early Access) for the game and haven't looked back.Runs perfectly fine on Linux/SteamOS/SteamDeck.
Even though I've just remembered why I didn't like the game - the experience playing it on LInux were perfect!
Slight performance issues due to Shader caching - which is normal. Felt like a native app all the way which I can say as I've played approx 3h before on Windows. Played 2h straight on Linux without any issues. Well done!
Game runs incredibly well. It's also fun to play. Super happy with the release :)
Perfect plug and play experience for a masterpiece in story telling (at least with Lee ...)
Title says it all. Download the game, start the game, enjoy the game. #forclementine
Perfect experience
No issue at all. Did start a new run and played it a bit. Great game and great performance rendering it as a native experience!
Love the game. I totally suck at playing fps games with a controller, but I still had fun doing so. If you have a better time using a controller you will have a great experience - just put the refresh rate of the monitor to 40hz and limit the fps to that as well and you will have a great experience on high!
As good as a native experience
Runs super fine and without any issues. As it would be a native app.
It's THE game for the Deck. Quick to pick up, play and put aside again. Bit of a slowdown in the last 5 minutes with hordes over hordes of enemies. Otherwise perfect experience. Putting it into 40Hz mode can help with the experience.
Game runs fine. Some issues giving it a ridiciously bad performance but one can hope for future improvements
DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
Sometimes the characters are borked in their stance and looking weirdly on the ground
Game is running significantly worse than on windows. Had to go from High-Ultra at 4k with DLSS 2.0 down to 1440p all medium with FSR2.
When it runs it's basically plug and play. Same experience as on Windows even it uses EAC though
Bit disappointed in the performance issues, but it is playable. The fun absolutely outweights the issues and I hope for future improvements. Blasted away that it was basically running without issues even with EAC and always online/being a service game. That's whay I would love to see more often ... just with better performance (:
The emperor protects and let it be known that the planet broke before the guard did!
Game run perfectly fine given the hardware
Haven't bothered to try out regular Proton version and immediately switched to proton-ge-custom for it. Runs damn well and doesn't really have a lot of issues. Getting decend frame rates and a great near native experience with that little wonder machine :)
Game is running perfectly. Even with DLSS and RayTracing enabled. What a time to be alive :) If you need modding fear not, as the Emperor still has you covered. Check out this GitHub page with a modloader for Linux: https://github.com/talon-d/darktideML-4linux

I've set GE=Proton globally across all of my Steam library. Wouldn't deem it a tinker setup that way. Game's running perfectly. A tiny bit more HUD ghosting on DLSS however compared to my main PC. But the 3080 Ti is doing an awesome job. Game is a joy to play across Steam Deck and this setup to my main PC!
A black screen is all I got
Sad, would love to play this classic again. But without any tinkering it appears to not being playable at all!
