Game works perfectly out of the box. If you are on Ultrawide (i am on 21:9) you have to use a programm called Flawless Widescreen to get the game to run in 21:9 or above. This can either be installed via steamtinkerlaunch or protontricks.
But for just playing the game this fix is not needed.

Changed to FE proton which i do with most games and was fine. Didn't try the standard proton.

Have tried editing engine.ini files via mod from nexus to fix issues
Once you are out in the open world, you hit invisible barrier walls in the field which make it impossible to progress. This is apparently due to areas refusing to load properly. This is game-breaking and prevents advancing past the beginning of Chapter 2. As is, this game is unplayable on Steam Deck.

Little Stutturing sometimes (very rare and only on 1-2 frames)
Sttuter with D12 but when force DX11 no sttutering / frame drops but it's mostly due to DX12 support on GTX 10 series not proton related
Run 60 FPS (locked) and soemtimes little drops at 55/58 very rare
Played at 1080p, max settings and 8 Characters showings settings
At 1440p settings had some serious drop to 45 / 40 FPS

No issues
Ran great out of the box

Stutters and choppy gameplay
Gameplay was was choppy, experienced frequent stutters until I added the -d3d11 launch option.
All perfect. No issues.

Perfect Out of the box
Click and play

When some heavy thing is being done in the game, audio starts popping so much. Sometimes audio stay permanently popping, needing to close game and replug HDMI device.
Some FMV cutscenes runs in very low FPS (stutter so much).
Game is very playable, but in Windows we don't randomly stutter in game movies/FMVs. The issue is much more anoying when the movie play in a 3D object (like a TV or hologram). As I told, sometimes movies/FMV just play normally, being difficult to test solutions.
I recommend play on Windows to get immersion, and when beat the game, play on Linux to try to do 100%.
Issues even on Windows:
- Ugly and buggy DSR working (and game don't give you a cleary option to disable it): I recommend use FFVIIHook mod (the default settings in zip file already remove DSR).
- Game start to being slower depeding how long you're playing. If you have a < 6 GB VRAM, you should play in lower settings even if you want to pull it to high settings 1080p 30 FPS, because game will be slower because bad optimization. I play in lower 1080p 60 FPS and game takes very long time to be very slow and requiring restart (like 1 or 2 hours).

Works perfectly out of the box and playing fine with a PS4 controller. My default Proton is Experimental, I didn't try any other version.

Tourne directement à l'installation, rien modifier de mon coter.
Enfin un FF que je peut jouer avec une bonne manette , tourne en 1440p 120Hz

Playing at 1440p there were some random FPS drops and micro stutters, the most annoying of which involves a permanent FPS drop where the auto dynamic resolution scaling then turns the game blurry. I encounterred this a handful of times more so on the Yuffie DLC which unfortunately required a restart of the game. I understand that there are some inherrent issues with micro stutter so it's hard to say if this is a proton issue. There are mods to disable the dynamic resolution scaling but I did not attempt it. Even with the issues encountered the game was more than playable. Have fun sticking it to Shinra!

Perfect and smooth
91.1 hours in. No issues. Works out of the box.
Works great. HDR works out of the box.

the game is sometimes a bit slow when loading a new area or rendring a crowd.
the cutscene from clouds hometown ran at max 20fps on protonge 9-11 so i switched to experimental and the game seems to ran abit smoother but havent played for enough to completely verify

No launch
Stuck on "Launching" forever. Does not happen on Bazzite/Deck-OLED. Removing compat data does not fix. Game will launch and display a message telling me to launch it through the steam client if I try to launch it through proton on the command line.

Disabled FPS limit in Engine.ini (r.VSync=0) and let SteamOS limit it to 40FPS.
You have to install this mod to enable the Engine.ini files (https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7remake/mods/74).
This wiki page helped me (https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Final_Fantasy_VII_Remake_Intergrade). Same here (https://www.nexusmods.com/finalfantasy7remake/mods/139).

Used ffviihook to force remove dynamic resolution scaling
Any and all issues with this game are related to it being an awful PC port from the start. Genuinely unplayable in it's DX12 mode. Most issues can be solved by running the game in DX11 with -d3d11 as a command option however.
Not able to launch the game since the second time

Some performance issues in more populated scenes, likely due to RAM constraints on the Steam Deck that can be addressed on a desktop/laptop
The game performs very well early on, but once you get to more populated areas such as Wall market, the performance tanks. One notable example is the stairs leading to Don Corneo's mansion - this area sometimes causes my framerate to drop into single digits until I quit the game
The introduction area runs at 60fps with minor frame drops out of the box, best to cap at 40fps if stable framerates are preferred
Flawless OOTB

Works Great Out Of The Box
Running at 1440p/90fps with high settings, frame drop occasionally but very much playable

I was playing at 120fps/1440p, one day everything was blurry and fps were more around 20fps. I deleted the shadercache, downgraded the Proton version, changed my fans rpm, nothing worked. Then i just rebooted and it was back to 120fps. In case you have the same issue.

Huge thanks to the wine/proton team for allowing us to play on linux systems !

Game frame rate can hitch quite a bit for several moments when running through areas which doesn't happen on windows with a RTX 4080.
Still playable. Mods work.

This game still has issues with frame pacing (see e.g. the Digital Foundry videos), but on the small Steam Deck screen it's quite hard to tell. If I didn't have the framerate monitor running all the time, I'd never notice.

Runs beautifully. Made it to chapter 6 no issues at all. Excited to continue.

No issues at all, runs super smooth at 120 fps, even through Wayland (hyprland).
Works identically to Windows on the same hardware.
