Just install and run
Gets and APP_ERROR for me, tried reinstalling it and everything.

Other than the occasional problem the game works well and the devs have made a fairly decent steam deck controller profile as standard
Occasional Crashes and freezing that can last 5-10 seconds. It seems to be random with no particular trigger like an explosion for example.
2:30-3 hours of gameplay at 40hz with Medium preset & 1200x800 resolution.

In Coop the game keeps crashing randomly. This is a huge problem because the coop mode does not have the ability to save in a mission and the missions can go for over an hour. When the game crashes at the end you have to replay the whole mission.
I tried multiple proton versions and launch options but coop keeps crashing.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1
Alt Tab in and out of game to get it to the correct monitor and if the load up screen isn't working this will often get the game going.
See my launch options fixed a lot of the crashing for me.
ran perfectly out of the box
skirmish crashes if using proton-ge, switching to an older version of proton fixes this
Use latest Proton version, currently as of writing this 6.3-7 works
Main menu chat shows index of your systems root folder i.e main menu chat doesn't work. Also don't use Proton GE as it introduces bugs like skirmish crashing the game etc.
Skirmish doesn't work
Skirmish doesn't work (GUI error), Extras doesn't work (GUI error). Main menu chat shows systems root folder.

The game is very good playable with Proton. I had only minor problem which about I can't say which are game or proton related.
Sometimes (in large maps when there many things explodes) I had minor performance issues in first person.
I had occasionally (every 1-2 hours or so) a crash, but I can't say which of these crashes are game or proton related, since a friend who is playing on Windows had a crash once too.

Due to the crashes after each game/level I would not call this enjoyable.
Crashes after every game, however only after. So if you don't mind restarting the game it's playable
when run Ultra setting
Works ootb, multiplayer works Ok, I've had some slowness, but as far as the server messages go they were due to another player's connection.

Runs great out of the box
I completed the first training mission without a hitch. Didn't try multiplayer, but lobby seemed fine.

Runs as smoothly as I would expect it from a native game binary!

works fine. played about 2 to 3 hours single player missions without any issue at all. Hosted a multiplayer map and worked but bombed out about 20mins in due to a out of sync error which might just be my internet so you might not have this issue at all... Another issue i found is that the lobby shows my file system files but it does not do anything from what i can gather so dont stress... Would give it platinum otherwise.

Works perfectly out of the box (I only tested the Editor).

Crashes as it loads into the main menu. Tried multiple proton versions.

in steam play 4.2-5 , 3.7-8 , 3.16-4 not work

Runs perfectly with Proton version: 3.7.8 Beta

Error and crash to desktop as soon as it opens the main menu.

At first it seems to boot and comes up with the Call to Arms image, but then it closes.

Had 4.4 Mesa 18.2.0-rc3 driver and the game didn't work. Updated the drivers and it works perfectly now.

Works great.

Opens at first, then immediately closes.

Works perfectly.
