Instaled Ubisoft Connect (app) and d3dcompiler_47 (dll)
You need protontricks and install Ubisoft Connect (app) and d3dcompiler_47 (dll) within the same proton (as in wine) prefix. After that the game is happy that it can communicate with its French overlords and you are in for tons and tons of old school Anno fun!

d3dcompiler_47
fullscreen needs to be activated again with every start
I basically did what other Linux users reported: After installing I switched to Proton Experimental and needed to open it several times until the game started with the pink glitches. I then got me d3dcompiler_47 with Protontricks (from Discover store) to get rid of the pink elements.
Since then it starts straight into the game with too low resolution and has to be set to fullscreen mode every start manually (better remember how to find the setting before) but works totally fine. It was less easier then it sounded in other reports.
the game wouldnt launch past the ubisoft connect screen

Winetrick d3dcompiler_47
is required to fix pink epilepsy warning, settings and multiplayer screens.
Game does not quit cleanly but must be killed after quitting (killall Anno1602.exe
). After that the Ubisoft launcher can quit.
Without this, quitting the Ubisoft Launcher will prompt to force quit because the game is still running.
Multiplayer not tested, but the multiplayer menus and graphics are usable after applying winetrick d3dcompiler_47
. The game itself is playable (at least for several hours) even without this fix.
Will launch ubisoft connect, but not actual game. Likely due to how proton seperates different executibles.

Pink screen in options menu.
It works in my case. Here is what I did:
- Switch to experimental
- Restart game several times until DirectX, UbiConnect-Updates etc. are installed (you have to restart after every patch)
- First time it will ask for an activation code, restart again.
- When starting the game then nothing will happening, but thanks to user ya-seen1984 on reddit it works: "Choose any Linux "system process tool" of your choice (for example: "gnome-system-monitor") and kill / terminate the process [in my case] "Anno1602exe". Subsequently, a new instance will automatically open, and the game will start."
- A pink screen shows up, then after some seconds the game starts normally.
Note: I was not able to change any options because in this menu the pink screen would return again (you can go back via ESC). Else the games works flawlessly so far. Note 2: Didn't try multiplayer yet.
