haven't tried multiplayer, but did play using steam remote play together and it ran great. The graphics are really good, the controls are responsive. The gameplay is a little different than anything I'm used to, but it runs like a champ with GloriousEggroll's Proton GE5
Out of the box, runs great, and is rad
LOOK INTO MY EYE... yep: it runs great. ... FOR NOW....
Tried no tweaks, but was really hoping this game would run after the last proton update; doesn't even open a screen, just displays my status briefly as playing the game before going away. :(
Note: while the store page does provide the meager courtesy of informing linux users that the Valve Index VR hardware entirely supports linux (good luck believing that), they do point out that this utility (to tell prospective buysers of the $1,000 rig who use Linux) that this fancy utility does not support Linux. And they are right.
Game is SOOOO close to working. Love the single player campaign. Once fixed: MULTI!
Audio occasionally crackles; might be related to the frame jitters.
Game looks nice even on "min latency" graphics setting, but it's not how the game was meant to be seen, and gets you only 3/5ths of the way past the performance probs.
Can't get the game to see my generic Amazon Basics wired XBOX ONE controller; almost every game does; other games in the origin thin client through steam do see it, but most don't. This one does not. KVM is ok.
The game runs post the originthin patch included with standard proton, but it is VERY herky jerky, eventually becoming unplayable. It feels like something that will be fixed soon.
Originthin client through steam has only recently been released and has seen significant patches as of the time of this writing. I feel fairly confident that EA and Valve's new relationship will result in the performance problems being fixed in the near future. Fingers crossed.
This game will not run on linux. Not out of the box, not with expermintal, and not with any current GE iteration. Game won't run on linux.
No fucking idea why pdb is still giving this a silver. This game won't run. And PTB: quit ruining the validity of your resource which is contributed by us by giving games silver when they are totally fucked. Cheers. Do not buy this game for linux.
Finally this game runs flawlessly on Linux with 2 easy fixes: mf-install and Glorious Eggroll's Proton-5.2-GE-2
Game now runs flawlessly with mf-install and Glorious Eggroll's Proton Proton-5.2-GE-2. All cinema plays fine, and sound no longer quits after loading a game or if you die. Runs perfectly.
The strangest thing is that it ran fine for several days, but then I had to upgrade my mobo and switched from intel to AMD CPU. Now the game work start at all. No tweaks tried, but it was literally the first game I went to verify as working after doing my upgrade and it is borked now. :(
Absolutely fucked. Refunding it.
Hey protondb: want me to never report again? Keep checking the caps on my GE version.
Literally works out of the box
Recognized my generic wired USB XBOXONE controller, didn't even need to try a GloriousEggroll; it completely worked from "play"
It's frustrating cause the framerate will be solid and super smooth one second, and then get CRUSHED the next. Looks neat!
Super frame drop/slow-mo/loading effect when turning and when talking on coms; going to try some stuff later (GE proton 5, mf-install, etc.) to see if it fixes it, but it's frustrating and frequent enough to make the game pretty unplayable.
Game complains (regardless of proton version) about missing language file, then crashes
Seems like it kind of wants to run. Hope it gets fixed.
Game looks phenomenal; occasional loading framerate slowdown but works great.
It has some framerate issues right after starting a new game and after death but it evens out. Completely playable
Works fine out of the box except for controller
It seems to make my left stick (generic Amazon XBONE wired controller) want to pull the camera at all times. Had to switch to keyboard and mouse.
The 4FPS Is Real
Fingers crossed that this is an easy fix, cause the game looks awesome and everything works.... just at 4FPS
Only thing that hasn't run out of the box 100 percent perfectly with no tweaks is that you are supposed to be able to click down on the left analogue stick to automatically refocus the camera angle to point to your objective (I use generic wired amazon xbox one controllers, cause they are so cheap and so good, but can't get that to work). Otherwise, fantastic: great framerate, great sound, tight controls (in terms of combos and combat), amazing visuals and cut scenes. No problems. You can see my livestream of it at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/392171060 Rock on!
The closing cinema doesn't display, but everything else runs perfectly.... it runs, but has no visuals for that final game-ending post-ending cinema and then never lets you beat the actual game which is VERY frustrating, cause I want the achievement get and don't want to be stuck being forced to play the ending of the game over and over again (expending gold orbs and stuff) for no credit; it also means you can't go back and play other missions. Extremely disappointing after 32 hours of flawless gameplay. I will continue to experiment and see if I can get it to at least soft quit without having to ctrl-f4, but it seems like the ending is borkerened.
Finally got the mfplat.dll workaround to work (as outlined roughly in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pcCJSm3IoMY (I know it says its for resident evil 2, but it works for DMC5 as well, you just need to change the steamapp id when dealing with your proton prefix. The instructions are mostly sound, but will be posting a text-based version to my website and in episode230 of the best linux games podcast tomorrow. NOT trying to advertise anything; just trying to lead you to the correct information. It was a slog (and an insult, after 32 hours of perfectly-fine out of the box gameplay and performance, only to have to fix the closing credits), but there ya go!
No tweaks needed (didn't even have to adjust the graphics or controls); just ran perfectly straight out of the box. Did a shakedown on my first event, then did a full run on the track (all in cockpit first-person), and then watched the full replay (amazing cameras in the game really show off the geography and your car). The volumetric dust doesn't look all that great during the replays, but maybe I can tweak that.
I've tried no tweaks, but the game itself runs flawlessly... it just entirely skips the cinema sequences... which, normally, you might be able to ignore, but in this game, I think their absence is just making one hell of an insane video game ten times crazier. This is a game where I want to/need to see the cinema sequences. Will research and update if I find a fix. Here's hoping, cause this sucker is AMAZEBALLS. Hall of flame material, for real.
Posting this report because a previous report states that it works out of the box at silver; I have tried no tweaks, but can safely say that it does not work out of the box on my system.
The game itself is insane but runs great out of the box.
This cool little sidescrolling shooter/Contra-esque Roguelike runs perfectly out of the box, including with controller support.
Valve Index: at language select screen, I can see the controllers but am unable to make a selection.
Very frustrating cause this looks as good or better than space pirate trainer.
Oh Danny boy... the pipes, the pipes are calling... Yep: runs flawlessly out of the box.
No tweaks attempted, but the game runs great until after the first mission; this game is NOT platinum. Such a crushing disappointment too, cause it totally seems to run fine, but always crashes at the second loading screen. Damn.
This (totally insane, top-down, 2d pixel-trash) space-shooter runs perfectly via proton; only problem is that getting used to navigating the menus with the controller is a little weird. Other than that, this retelling of the Spanish armada and the Martian Tenticled Alien invasion of Colonial America is completely functional, and (incidentally) also entirely historically accurate.
On NVIDIA 325 series drivers, had to restart to get it to perform well, but it rocks steady framerate afterwards. Literally only tested 10 mins; posted just because it works.
Runs fine (so far); very pretty game with tight controls.
At first I thought it wasn't detecting my controller, but it's just the way the game was designed (have to hold the a button, not tap it, to get through the introductory screens). Works flawlessly. Very pretty game.
Works great out of the box; multiplayer is a little slow to put together a battle royale on the west coast, but the game works fine.
The HEALTH update (Nov 10th) Breaks the game for linux users
80 hours I had no problems playing online (fundamental to this game)... They "hardened" EAC with their last update and now the game is broken on Linux.
Completely borked
Tried standard proton, and GE-5.9-ST; will not even hit splash screen on mint box.
Black screen after pre-game menu, then silently crashes
Updated graphics Drivers, tried steamplay, tried 6.3-7, tried GE 10x, 16x, 20x
gamemoderun PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command%
Without adding the launch parameters, I couldn't get it to run on my system using any proton version. Proton Experimental and those launch options made it work perfectly.
Some people have said that it runs out of the box on their systems; not so for mine. Had to add the launch parameters gamemoderun PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 %command% for it to work
Haven't tried it with a hotas setup yet, but works great with mouse, keys, and gamepad (XBONE wired).
Multiplayer appeared to work, but didn't stick around cause I need to learn to play again. :)
Great game, with tight controls, haven't tried coop, but 20 hours of building and raiding and evaiding... great out of the box.
Very very rarely (1 in 100 runs) the game might crash randomly when entering a map. It's totally a non-issue. But it happened to me twice in 20+ hours. So it happened. Non issue.
Super rad game, runs great out of the box, only thing I haven't checked is co-op raiding. Cheers!
The jittering and lack of gamepad support (running default proton) imposes much suck. Hope for fix soon!
I use a generic amazon basics XBONE wired controller that works with almost all games; for some reason, it is not detected by this game (however, other origin store games detect and let me use it). Weird.
Jittery, and in a game that relies on split second movements, this is a significant problem.
Doesn't even make it to a splash screen. Got the logs from the fail, but it's 5,000 lines long and I don't even know what I am looking at or for.
This amazingly fun combo of Geometry Wars 2 and Asteroids runs straight out of the box; don't be fooled by it's weird controller interface in the menus: like everything else in this game, it is a little different.
Warning: before your AI comes online, there is radio chatter and darkness; not a bug. Game works with both mouse or gamepad.
Game runs great. Systems Administration Maintenance online!
Gorgeous game runs flawlessly from what I can tell. Even the first boss (whose a real beast of a graphical nightmare) ran fine!
There's a little bit of pre-load during some of the game's opening major cinema sequence, but I'm pretty sure that's true of it running natively as well.
For the last 6 weeks, the game is broken via proton.
Game crashes as soon as you get out of main menu.
Since update from 6 weeks ago, have not been able to get the game to run at all. Reached out for help with the devs and discord, no dice.
Game no longer works. No help forthcoming. Sucks; it's my favorite VR game.
After the may 14th proton 4.2 update, the game runs fine (in spite of the weird nvidia driver warning). I can't move it to my other monitors, so that was kind of a pain, but otherwise, works great.
Runs great out of the box, but the game is less faithful to the legacy of its namesake than I would like, and runs in a weird, letter-boxed, arcade-mode format that feels unusually small no matter how many resolution and display tweaks I've tried in game. It is totally playable, though (try the fairy)!
Crashes to error dialog
I have the "normal" edition of the game (the cheapest one); have not tested the more expensive releases.
I get crackling.... not sure what launch parameters needed to correct it, but I bet it's an easy fix.
Nothing at all major; might be native to the game even, but I have no way to compare.
Be patient at splash screen and it runs fine
The game starts up very slowly and looks like it hangs at initial splash but just wait.
Silent shut down after origin attempts to install
It also forces me to reboot my computer more or less to get a performant steam again, even after manually killing everything by PID. I Have no idea what's broken, but it really sucks. I hope others know more than me.
Game dropped 3.5 hours ago, 2 of which I spent playing. Experienced some framerate problems on maximum quality, but can't tell the difference between that and high (which fixed it). Runs fine on proton, out of the box. (apologies for the previous blank report which got filed on accident)
Crashes to gray screen and crash report dialog.
Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
Minor crackling at title screen loading, but mercifully none in the game itself.
Super weird game (top down, faux demi-isometric 3/4 camera angle, but with ultra retro pixel trash graphics and strange satanic cartoon theme) runs great out of the box.
Works completely out of the box, no tweaks, no custom proton
Only performance prob encountered was the usual "first time loading a new area" mini-lag.
No cinema sequences.
The game runs fine with max settings, but sadly, even with the mediafoundation fix from github, it doesn't seem like it shows any of the in game cinemas, leaving only contextualless play sequences. Really hope there's a work around as the game seems pretty frigging cool.
No cinema sequences
needs https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install after first run. Tested with latest version this morning. Works great.
haven't tried the online coop yet, but the fact that it runs out of the box off the bat and looks this good is, in of itself, impressive.
There's some stutter out of the box. Using Glorious Eggroll 6.10-GE-1 offered better performance.
Once you get your controller figured out, works great!
I'm on steam beta, which recently broke controller support through steaminput, but on most other games, disabling this restores the functionality. Tried lots of stuff to get the controller working in this game, but it finally took switching from GE's 6.21 to no forced compatability before it would accept controller input. I have no idea why this is, and might just be something in my setup that's weird, but there it is.
First boot up takes a very long time. Confusingly so.
Doesn't run; tried experimental and GE
The game does not run. Might be platinum on steam deck or whatever, but doesn't run on PC.
It runs ok. Something is up with steam on some aspect of my machine; it's been years since I had to steam --reset to get a game to work.
I had to steam --reset to get it to work
Not entirely sure why it would not run without doing a steam --reset, but there it is; so backup your saves!
Tinker report? Spent 3 days running through every possible reason why it wouldn't run. Maybe others will have a more pleasurable experience out of the box, but I can only report my own.
Out of the box, even in early access, Undisputed runs like a champ.
not alt tab friendly at all; seemed like it worked a few times, but broke more often than not
Game's still in EA, but this was like butter. Hopefully they build off this feature set, cause this game is super fun in multiplayer.
Early Access game, but runs great out of the box. Been waiting 10 years for a legit boxing game on linux!
Game runs perfectly, though I didn't get to test multiplayer (will update if that's borked), but single player runs great. One thing: I had to manually max the visual settings cause it defaulted to a very low profile; running it all on ultra currently.
the black launcher screen makes you click on top left corner to start game
The launcher shows up as black, and you have to click in top left corner to run.
Works great right out of the box on steam; there's some weird framerate jitters occasionally - not sure if this is baked into the game, or if proton specific, but it's intermittent and the game is totally playable.
Tried no tweaks, but game runs, it just doesn't seem to draw anything other than white squares on a black background with some weird credit screen elements. Will try with tweaks later when I get more time. Till then, avoid.
