Nuclear Kangaroo

its a good game, tough overshadowed by shadow magic, needs a bit of tinkering to get it to run properly
i made the config
can only play the game on widow mode, but theres a fix that simulates widescreen
if you want the run the game, go to the configuration tool and run it on window mode
if you want to run it on widescreen, go to modDB, search for "AoW2 and AoWSM fix for SteamDeck" and follow the instructions on the README
i think launching the game on fullscreen causes an error, window mode works fine and the Deck displays the game as fullscreen anyways
the current version of proton doesnt work but 5.13 does
i made the layout
game can only be played on windowed mode, the deck displays it as fullscreen but only on a 4:3 ratio
despite the issues with the aspect ratio, its still a very good game
i made the config
30 FPS, since the framerate can drop a bit at higher resolutions in more complex maps, Half-Rate shading
the game is not playable in conventional fullscreen, requiring a fix to resize the game in window mode a fill the screen
while playing widescreen some of the more complex maps can cause the framerate to dip slightly below 30 FPS while scrolling
just download this mod and check the readme, you will be able to play the game widescreen without issues
https://www.moddb.com/games/age-of-wonders-shadow-magic/downloads/aowsm-fix-for-steamdeck
required for multiplayer
i made the config
reduced TDP and GPU clock speed to minimum, otherwise the game seems to drain battery very fast, this config doesnt seem the affect performance noticeably, specially for a turn based game
game must be run in windowed mode otherwise you get a black screen
sometimes frames drop in very busy maps with tons of sprites
you need to use protontricks and install directplay, otherwise multiplayer wont work
boy i sure have done a lot to get this game running as close to perfect as possible, things i do for love...
anyhow as per my previous report, you need to download this mod
and follow the readme instructions in order to play this game widescreen, i couldnt make fullscreen work, but windowed mode with a resized window that fills the screen and doesnt stretch the image is as good as you are gonna get
then if you want to play multiplayer, either via the internet or LAN, you need directplay:
- install and launch protontricks, you can do this via the Discover app
- Select Age of Wonders Shadow Magic
- In the next page select "Select the default wineprefix"
- Select "Install a Windows DLL or component"
- Select "directplay" from the list
if the install fails, you probably need to delete the game's proton files and have steam redownload em
i tried playing a LAN game between my steam deck and my windows PC and it worked, altough i couldnt join deck games from my windows pc, only windows games from my deck, but i suspect this may be a firewall issue
a controversial bioshock but a great game nonetheless, try using the native version on your steam deck to save disk space
i had to settle for the second best graphics pre-set, the best graphics pre-set causes severe slowdown, i didnt really look into why
the linux version works very well, i could recommend it over the proton version if disk space is an issue
the game used to work, but the lastest update to Ubisoft's garbo launcher, Ubisoft Connect, broke it
i tried the proton version recommended by steam, experimental, 7.0.5, GE-Proton7-38 and Proton-6.1-GE-2
nothing works
surprisingly, the game needs less tinkering to run on linux compared to windows, videos require a mod to work
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dsound=n,b" %command%
i made the config
some text such as ammo counters might be a bit difficult to read
Many sounds are missing and will require dsound.dll component.
videos wont play by default
the ingame videos by default use the WMV video codec, i made this mod to fix the issue
https://www.moddb.com/games/commandos-2-men-of-courage/downloads/commandos-2-steam-deck-videos
besides that i suggest you use the dsound.dll component
- Download dsound.dll 32-bit version 10.0.10586.0 from dlldownloader.com
- Place dsound.dll in C:\windows\syswow64\ in commando 2's proton compatibility container folder
- In steam, go to Commandos 2 properties -> launch options and enter: WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dsound=n,b" %command%
the native linux port and vanilla proton work for singleplayer, multiplayer requires tinkering
game requires ucrtbase.dll for windows multiplayer
i made the config myself
for some reason the game doesnt seem to go over 40 fps even on low, so its better to lock the fps to 40
using proton without the ucrtbase.dll fix causes synch errors within minutes
without the ucrtbase.dll fix you get a synch error not long after the match starts and lose
if you only want the singleplayer, the default installation should do fine, download my controller config and play
if you want to play multiplayer, you need to use proton, the linux version will only pair you up with other linux players, and if you use proton, you NEED to implement this fix otherwise you will get a sych error
https://gist.github.com/jrbergen/0ce746676c4fbcc2becd6054d1bba2ed
just switch to Proton 5.13-6 and it runs without a single problem, the only downside of playing on the deck is that the great artstyle is shrunk a bit too much, cant be helped, otherwise it plays perfectly
the excellent artstyle is crunched a bit on the small screen
use Proton-6.1-GE-2, for some reason 5.13-6 isnt working for me anymore, yet another unsolved proton mystery for me
the game has stopped worked for me, first Proton 5.13-6 failed, now Proton-6.1-GE-2 does too
when i try to load a save or start a new game, it just keeps loading forever
the game simply WILL NOT WORK with the newer proton versions, both official and GE versions, it will however work with Proton-6.8-GE-2, this version however will not show up in the ProtonUp-Qt application, you need to download the .tar.gz directly from github here:
https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases/tag/6.8-GE-2
and then extract the contents of the file in this directory:
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/compatibilitytools.d/
then on steam, go to game properties > compatibility > force a specific proton version and pick Proton-6.8-GE-2
the game should work after that
i made the config
everything works as expected, even the ingame version of Maniac Mansion
the game seems to run great running on Proton 8, recommended
i made the config
reduced TDP to minimum, still runs at 60 FPS, old game
i used the widescreen patch from PCGamingWiki and it worked flawlessly, the game is fun, doesnt consume too much battery life, and has a unique artstyle that still looks very good
i made my own config using gyro and the back buttons for rolling
cool game, works out of the box, great with gyro controls
its a pretty cool sonic inspired game, story is kinda cringe but the game is fun, you just need to fix the controls
you need to download a community controller config otherwise the controls wont work
i made the config
the default controller configuration didnt work, you need to download a community layout
i used the native linux version, so i dont know if this happens with the windows version too, but the default controller config does not work in this game, it all works if you download a community config, i made one that works and i even added dpad movement since by default the game does not support it for some reason
im honestly floored by how well the game fits the steam deck, it has a linux version so it takes up less disk space, doesnt drain your battery particularly quickly, you can save at any time so its great for short play time sessions, it has full controller support AND it supports glyphs from other controllers, not just xbox, so if you use a DS4 like me, all the icons will be displayed correctly, no problems playing it docked on my TV either
my ONLY complain is that the game itself is 4:3 but the game atleast provides borders so it doesnt look too bad
i tried the most recent version of proton i had installed and the game worked almost flawlessly, the only real issue is that the game shows keyboard prompts instead of gamepad ones, could be because i was using a PS4 controller but i dont know
i REALLY want to recommend this game, but the screen freeze glitch has occurred to me constantly after many re-installs i cannot fix it
tried proton experimental and proton 8.0-4
made a flick stick config and made R1 shoot, L1 aim, R2 equipment and L2 grenades
the screen freezes while the game keep playing in the background, the game becomes unplayable after this happens and i have to force quit it
the already mentioned issue with the screen freezing
the game plays nice UNTIL the screen freeze occurs
i tried proton experimental and proton 8.0-4, the screen still freezes while the game plays in the background, this is a fun game i want to keep playing, but until this is fixed, i cant
the normal version is fine, but i recommend installing JA2-Stracciatella for widescreen support
i made the config
go to
https://ja2-stracciatella.github.io/
download the windows installer, then add it to steam as a non-steam game, run the application (remember to set up the compatibility tool to Proton Experimental), then find your JA2 directory, i recommending installing JA2 on an SD card, makes it easier to find, the SD card will show up as drive E:
then after you finish installing, make sure ALL of JA2-Stracciatella were installed on the same directory as your game directory, you might need to move the contents of the installation, just make sure you overwrite the ja2.exe file
go to the JA2 directory and add ja2-launcher.exe as a non-steam game (remember to set the compatibility tool) run the executable and setup your JA2 directory there, also, setup the resolution to 960x600
while JA2-Stracciatella supports lots of widescreen resolutions, the UI does not scale, this is a problem specially when it comes to managing squads and using the laptop, 960x600 is widescreen and the UI will fill up most of the screen, i also recommend enhabling FSR after doing this, just press the "..." button on your steam deck for that
if for some reason the launcher isnt saving your video configuration, you can manually edit the config file, its located here:
/home/deck/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/12370/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/JA2/ja2.json
on that file you can setup resoltions like this:
"res": "960x600"
and your game directory like this
"game_dir": "E:\steamapps\common\Jagged Alliance 2 Gold"
this is a json file remember to add a "," at the end of each line except the last one
works perfectly OOTB, the game uses only mouse controls but i created some simple shortcuts anyways
i made the config
i have no idea why steam says its unsupported
i made the config
i reduced the resolution to 1152x720, applied FSR and capped FPS to 40, game still looks good and i get around 4 hours of play
the text of some item descriptions might be a bit small
it took me a while but i came up with the perfect controller config for the game, i even beat the game on hard using it, so you know its good, its a great game that works well with the form factor and allows saving anywhere so portable play is a non-issue
i made the config
just needed a simple control config to exit the game and navigate the startup window
it just works out of the box, no issues
i rebinded zoom in and zoom out ingame, since i think they were mapped incorrectly
it just runs well
one of the best turn based strategy games out there, runs perfectly despite the buggy launch
some text is too small
online seems to work well, lag free
works as expected
GE-Proton9-5 seems to work really well
the "Great On Deck" is deceptive, the game is fully playable but without the correct proton ver. its missing the FMVs
FMVs dont work without GE-Proton7-38
i strongly suggest using GE-Proton7-38, its the only way i got the FMVs to work, newer and older versions of GE-Proton seem to crash the game, and valve's proton experimental works but its missing the FMVs
somehow the game runs better than on my windows desktop, you simply need to use any of the viable community control configs
i made the config
by default gamepad controls are not mapped, you have to map them manually in the options menu
on my desktop PC some kind of bug causes the game to be super foggy, on the steam deck, it runs almost perfectly out of the box, i downloaded the widescreen fix on PCGamingWiki, and that one worked flawlessly
for controls you have two options, download any of the viable community configs that use keyboard mappings on the deck controls, or, setup the deck controls as a gamepad and map the gamepad commands ingame, because for some reason, while the game perfectly recognizes a gamepad, NONE of the gamepad actions are mapped
that being said the game accepts keyboard and gamepad commands at the same time so if you download my config: "PS2 Controls with Analogs + Extras" you only need to remap gamepad movement and camera control ingame, enjoy analog movement
the normal version is fine, but i highly recommend the unofficial patch that restores the music and adds widescreen support
-gl_modulate 2 -intensity 2
i made the config
the audio is out of synch, select Max Compatibility in the game options to fix
my cloud sabe on my desktop PC didnt work but new saves on the deck worked flawlessly
download the unofficial patch, it restores the music and adds widescreen support
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=208440395
add it as a non-steam application (remember to set the compatibility to proton experimental) and run it, then find your quake 2 instalation folder (i recommend installing the game on an external SD Card, itll be easier to find, it will show up as drive E:) and install the patch
after the patch is installed, remember to run Quake 2 with this Proton version: Proton-6.1-GE-2
set these launch options -gl_modulate 2 -intensity 2
this will make the game less dark, if they dont work, try these same commands ingame on the console, by default the game is a bit too dark for the steam deck if you dont have the model with the non-reflective screen
finally, if you notice the sound is out of synch, go to the ingame options and set up the sound for Max Compatibility
works right out of the box no issues
get a pal for the coop, the game improves drastically that way
splitscreen coop works perfectly
also a good candidate to implement gyro controls if you want
its a fun classic, but i STRONGLY recommend downloading OpenRCT2 or buying RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic instead
changed executable, ran the game in window mode
i made the config
fullscreen displays the original 4:3 resolutions on the top left side of the screen, window mode fills up the screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, made a fix to stretch window and fill the whole screen
the version of proton steam uses by default has some sort of issue and does not allow you to save games, GE-Proton7-38 does allow you to save games properly
if you for some reason want to play the vanilla version, set the game to window mode, you will get a 4:3 resolution but atleast the game will fill up the screen vertically, if you want a widescreen option, you can try downloading this mod
https://www.moddb.com/games/rollercoaster-tycoon/downloads/rctdeluxe-fix-for-steamdeck
tough honestly, you are probably better off downloading OpenRCT2 and running this game through that or buying RollerCoaster Tycoon Classic, but if for some reason you only have RCTD, dont want to buy Classic and dont want to download OpenRCT2, then just download the fix
i highly recomment playing the game Using The Force Engine source port for the best experience
i made the config
simply download The Force Engine, extract the folder contents, move everything to the "DosBox" folder within Dark Forces game files, then rename "dosbox.exe" to something else, and rename the The Force Engine executable (TheForceEngine.exe), to "dosbox.exe"
now when running the game through steam, The Force Engine version will be played instead, the only downside is that cloud saves wont work, and The Force Engine saves are stored within the compatibility files, in a folder named "TheForceEngine" in Documents
its a fun and VERY buggy game, also very ambitious, doesnt always stick the landing but it tries
i customized the controls extensively to play the game comfortably, its an RTS/Stealth/RPG hybrid
the game isnt really good looking but i was consistently getting 25-20 fps, sometimes even lower in the more busy areas of the city
the performance is awful but the game remains very playable regardless, if you want a single player real time tactics game on the go, this is honestly not a bad choice, get ready to configure the controls extensively
Proton 8.0-5 now seems to run the game properly, previously mouse commands had issues but that seems to be solved
i made the config
TDP limit to 9 watts, GPU clock to 900 MHz
some of the text is a bit small, and pushing the resolution below 1152x720 makes the text super blurry, so dont do that
the game runs badly on either linux on windows, but the proton version runs better than native, just lock the framerate to 30 FPS
pick the proton version over the linux version, runs better
super important: this game is a bit of a hassle to get working properly, follow these steps:
- if upon starting the game you are stuck with the Serious Sam logo and what looks like half of a window, dont worry, just press Enter or Esc, the game is trying to tell you you might need to change the graphic settings when running the game for the first time, but the Steam Deck does not show this message properly
- the default OpenGL rendering is almost unplayable, full of artifacts
- EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: in the graphics options set the game to windowed mode, the Steam Deck will stretch the image to fit the whole screen so the game still looks fullscreen
- change the rendering method to Direct3D, if you didnt set the game to windowed mode previously, the screen will go completely black and it will be a nightmare to revert the change
when booting the game up for the first time the game tries to display a message but it does not show properly
the default OpenGL rendering method has severe artifacts
changing the rendering method while fullscreen would cause the whole screen to go black, difficult to revert
the default mouse sensitivity is weird, X axis way more sensitive than the Y axis
in order to run the game properly is very important to follow these steps:
- if upon starting the game for the first time, you might be stuck with the Serious Sam logo and what looks like an unreadable half of a window, just press Enter or Esc, the game is trying to inform you that, upon running the game for the first time, you might need to change graphics settings, the Steam Deck does not show this message properly
- the default rendering option, OpenGL, is unplayable, full of artifacts
- EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: go to video options and change the game to WINDOWED mode, the Steam Deck will stretch the image to fit the screen anyways
- switch rendering mode to Direct3D, if you didnt change the game to windowed mode the screen will go black, this is difficult to revert since you will have to navitage the menus blindly
fantastic 4X game, it will easily get you into the "one more turn" mindset, for better AND worse
i tried to play the game docked and it kept crashing, i figured out my 4K TV was too much for the game, you need to decrease the game resolution from steam
the game runs flawlessly on the deck, however if you try to play it docked in a 4K monitor or TV, you need to reduce the game resolution within steam itself
go to properties and change the game resolution, set it to 1080p or lower
i used the widescreen patch from PCGamingWiki
i made the config
i enabled half-rate shading
the game works very well, but in order to play in widescreen you need to do the following
- download the widescreen patch from PCGamingWiki
- on steam, go to game properties and set the resolution to 1920x1200 or higher
- open the resolution.ini file and set the resolution to 1980x1200
this will give you a widescreen experience with minimal text and image cropping
it works very well out of the box, but you need to set the correct resolution in the launch options
-CustomResolution:enabled -r1280x800x32
just update the resolution and configure the controls to your liking, use this in the launch options:
-CustomResolution:enabled -r1280x800x32
the game works flawlessly out of the box, however the configuration tool is a different story
the game works great at 1280x800 res, but higher res dips below 60s, atleast in some maps
played with a friend, worked great
one of the best Kart racers ever made, it works well out of the box, but if for some reason you want to change the resolution, you need to use the configuration tool, this tool does not work with the default proton version, but i managed to get it to work using GE-Proton7-38
if you are a bit tight on disk space, i recommend installing the linux version of the game, only issue is that cloud saves between linux and window versions dont seem to be compatible, so you wont be able to carry over your progress
the game runs badly given the hardware, my desktop PC which isnt that much better than my steam deck runs this at around 50 FPS on high with a 900p, i get 30 FPS on the deck with everything on low at 720p
the game has bad performance on windows but its downright horrible on the deck, im playing this docked with an external SSD, so i have no idea how fast this drains the battery
maybe proton 9.0 offers better performance, but i tried GE-Proton9-12, and the performance was even worse
L2 enables gyro for better aiming
Proton 8 didnt seem to work but GE-Proton7-38 did the trick, the game runs flawlessly
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
Launched protontricks, selected the game, selected default wineprefix, installed Windows DLL. Install amstream, quartz, and lavfilters, and waited for the installations to complete
the intro video slows down in relation to the audio, leading to a desynch, but it can be fixed with protontricks
followed Koolaid Legend's instructions:
Launch protontricks, select Sky FC, select default wineprefix, install Windows DLL. Install amstream, quartz, and lavfilters
keep in mind protontricks is slow you need to wait for the configuration windows to popup
i created the config
the game works perfectly out of the box
i really dont know why valve claims this is not steam deck supported, really the only "issue" is that when running the game for the first time the EA launcher opens a bunch of windows, but thats it
be sure to install TFix, even if you disable gameplay changes, its almsot mandatory to get the game running properly
i made the config
reduced watt and GPU speed to minimum, doesnt seem to affect performace, otherwise the game seemed to consume more battery than expected
some slight crackling, dunno why
without TFix the game performance is abyssmal
download TFix 1.27, go to desktop mode, add the installer as a non-steam game (remember to set the proton compatibility layer in properties), run it, patch your installation of Thief and then you will be able to enjoy the game
TFix drastically improves performace and adds widescreen options, theres some OPTIONAL gameplay changes TFix introduces, but you can disable those in the installer so you get a mostly vanilla experience
i used Proton-6.1-GE-2 to run the TFix installer
the game works ALMOST perfectly out of the box, you need to either download SCFix or use my controller config for proper controller support
i changed the controls
i made the config
excellent stealth game, one of the GOATs, controller support is slightly messed up but you can use my config to fix em or download SCFix
a fun turn based strategy game, maybe more akin to a puzzle game than a traditional strategy game
change the compatibility tool to Steam Linux Runtime, the proton version has sound issues but the Linux version works fine
i made the config
no audio in the proton version, use the Linux version
fun game, just remember to use the Linux version
a very nice metroidvania with tons of equipment, do NOT change the refresh rate, game logic is tied to framerate
the game is good, but do not use the "..." button to change the refresh rate below 60, game logic is tied to framerate and the game will slow down
the game is BARELY playable on the Steam Deck, 30 FPS which is ok for a turn based strategy game
the ingame text tends to be small, even on a bigger screen while docked
this game is badly optimized even on windows, but on the steam deck, if you set everything to low and set the resolution to 1152x720, it does maintain a mostly consistent 30 FPS
apparently the linux version works but its not on steam, if you try to run the steam version you get an error message
the game will detect its being run on wine and ask you to download the linux version instead, you cannot get past that error message
i think this is the first time ive seen a game determine is being run on wine, and the game might work if the devs had not coded this error message
a dungeon crawler with lots of customization options for your party, and maybe just a bit too much combat
i made the config
there were some minor artifacts and the videos play at the original resolution on the upper left corner of the screen
i dont think its proton related, because it also happens on my desktop, but i cant quick save and when i try to load a game, i have to click the load button twice or all the saved games wont show up
the game actually was easier to run on the deck compared to my desktop, it is very old and i couldnt fix all the issues like the way the videos play tough, but the game itself is more than playable as it is
i made the config
some text is a bit too small
the game has a Linux version, but it really doesnt seem to work very well, it has a launcher that wont launch, you can start the game without a launcher but its harder to change the resolution that way plus it just doesnt seem to work well once you are in the Geoscape
stick to the Proton version
i dont know if the game was updated, valve's linux runtime improved or just my setup is better, but now the native version just works
i made the config
linux and windows saves are not compatible, your cloud saves wont carry over
if you are short on disk space, intalling the native version might be a good option
i used proton 8 just to avoid installing a new version of proton, i also ran the game off an SSD connected to my dock so i cant comment on battery life, that being said the game runs well and looks decent, it supers dualshock 4 glyphs which is a huge plus for me since i use the DS4 when i play docked
