You will need to make some adjustments to get it running, it is not quite an OOTB experience.
Without disabling SteamOverlay and turning off Vsync in Nglide, the game would black screen with audio.
The game can, and sometimes will, black out screen and leave only audio. It is quite unstable, even on older proton. Newer proton versions make tghe videos unplayable. The fix for this instablity seems to be solved by disabling steamoverlay in steam's options and launching the game's Nglide configuration, and turning of Vsync. Once this is done, the game runs better. There were still some minor graphical glitches (but still playable ones), like NPC interaction boxes being transparent with ghosting text.
Attempting to use Experiemental or Latest Proton resulted in a visible UI and a black viewport. Switching to an older version fixed the issue.
No mouse cursor on start menu.

I highly recommend installing Wizardry 8 Extender for Widescreen Support setting your resolution 1280 x 800, otherwise you'll be playing in a 4:3 aspect ratio.

a dungeon crawler with lots of customization options for your party, and maybe just a bit too much combat
i made the config
there were some minor artifacts and the videos play at the original resolution on the upper left corner of the screen
i dont think its proton related, because it also happens on my desktop, but i cant quick save and when i try to load a game, i have to click the load button twice or all the saved games wont show up
the game actually was easier to run on the deck compared to my desktop, it is very old and i couldnt fix all the issues like the way the videos play tough, but the game itself is more than playable as it is

If required use 'protontricks 245450 vcrun6' to install the necessary files to run the 3DSetup.exe utility.
Edit 3DVideo.CFG to change the screen resolution and colour depth.
Game works and runs out of the box.
Was not able to access 3Dsettings, but was able to edit the config file manually.
Was able to run the game in windowed mode with the "/windowed" launch command.
Game runs fine. I had to use nGlide to turn off Vsync for videos to play - otherwise be a black w/ only sound.
Videos are black out of box, but running nGlide config and turning off Vsync got them working properly.
Works like a champ

Videos are black, gameplay works fine.

Game installs and plays fine with only issue being graphical corruption in small text boxes, but text is still readable.

Besides the 3DSetup Utility the game works flawlessly right out of the box. (Windows also has similar issues) see details: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=216229528
