Was able to load in and view intro-movie, but was given 'Steam application has stopped responding' repeatedly. Crashed on main menu.
Borked more or less on Debian it seems.

Widescreen fixes, removed mouse acceleration, adjusted FOV.
Some very debilitating stutter in the second level, either at the start of the level or after completing certain objectives. Reloading a save fixes it.

Widescreen fixes and various other configurations to get this game working better, as expected with a game this old.
Very weird and debilitating constant stutter in the second level, even in menus.
Switching to Proton 9.0-4 fixes the stutter on the second level.
I installed a config script
Shooting on walls turns the texture pure black
You have to downgrade your version for it to work, even if you do, you still have to do settings changing and you will still get some polygons glitching every map but not major enough

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d9=n,b" %command%
Installed the widescreen patch
Using Shader Model 3.0 in the settings causes the game to take at least 10 seconds to tab back into if you tab out. Shader 1.0 doesn't have this issue and I don't really see a visual difference, so I just use 1.0.
If you force close the game via task manger or just the "stop" button on Steam, it reverts your settings back to 800x600. Only way to "save" your settings is by using the in-game exit button. Kinda annoying, but not gamebreaking.

For controls, use the community layout I made (SC3 Chaos Theory - kavokat's layout) to get a near perfect console layout. Just try it, you'll love it.

No controller support

-nointro
Game crashes when trying to save, citing a buffer overrun error from wine. Searched the net far and wide, couldn't find a solution so far, will update if found.

Game freezes after selecting loadout and clicking on the "Accept" button.

Installed the widescreen fix.

it just works right out the box
Above community controller config didn't allow for analog movement speed on the left thumbstick. this is due to the left thumbstick configured as WASD and not a joystick.
Right thumbstick sensitivity is too high especially in precision aiming. Defaults to 400%. dropped it down to 100% and it is more managable.
the game works ALMOST perfectly out of the box, you need to either download SCFix or use my controller config for proper controller support
i changed the controls
i made the config
excellent stealth game, one of the GOATs, controller support is slightly messed up but you can use my config to fix em or download SCFix
Works really well out-of-the-box!
The window goes invisible if I ever tab out of the game.

Apply the widescreen fix by going to this link - https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Tom_Clancy's_Splinter_Cell:_Chaos_Theory#Shadows_become_more_broken_the_wider_the_screen_resolution
The game runs great after making a few changes. It's essential for SteamDeck users to download the SCFix controll scheme from the community layouts tab.

I believe, but not sure, that the EAX option isn't working.

In case you get "Steam Error, Application load error 2:0000065558." error, try installing it on your main drive. Every Proton version refuse to launch while it was installed on a external disk.
Videos and everything works as excepted.

The game is running great with Proton 7!
This game does not have very good controller support.
This used to be broken!
Runs fine, shader caching issues required occasional manual deletion of files.
HDR rendering with shader model 3.0 is broken, resulting in an extremely dark screen. After disabling it there were no other graphical issues.
A few times, the game started instantly crashing on every subsequent startup. It seems to be a shader caching issue, as deleting the cache folder ( [Steam Library]/steamapps/shadercache/13570 ) fixed it. I also had one mid-game crash and two crashes with alt+tabbing over the course of 20 hours of play.
The only way to skip cutscenes was to alt+tab out of the game and back in.
Played from start to finish. Except for the aforementioned shader cache issue and being unable to skip cutscenes normally, the game worked perfectly.

game not running
I only receive :Steam Error, Application load error 2:0000065558. Tried differen proton vbersions, none work.
What a great game and it ran beautifully!
If you have issues, try different Proton versions. I started with 6.3-8 but had to switch to 5.13-6 after an update to my system.
Works like a charm
The game doesn't any resolutions above 1920x1200 natively, so if you're on a 1440p or a 4k monitor make sure to install a widescreen mod.
Runs out of the box with Proton 6.3-8 with no other launch options.
Only minor issue was with the in-game HDR setting making the game impossibly dark, disabling HDR resolves the issue.
Works best on 4-11-13.
Change mouse polling rate to 125hz to avoid mouse lag. The latest proton as of this time (6.3-6) seems to have issues with HDR rendering being too dark and not able skip cutscenes.
Works perfectly

*WINEDLLOVERRIDES="msacm32,msvfw32=n,b" %command%"* commandline arguement (without *) to get the widescreen patch working.
Using mice with polling rate of above 125hz would cause horrible input stutters. As far as I know, this issue persists on all wine/proton versions.
Lighting and shadows would sometimes flicker and disappear when using with older proton versions and non-soft-shadows appear very sharp and aliased. Proton-5.21-GE-1 seems to have fixed the flicker issue but not aliasing.

Playing at night an toggling nigh vision can really be stressful to your eyes and produce headaches.
Works only with Proton 3.16-9 on my machine. All other Proton versions crash, with or wihtout DXVK paramters...Also Full-HD is maximum resolution even with widescreen-fix.
Set Launch Options:
PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%

Properties -> General -> Set Launch Options -> "PROTON_USE_D9VK=1 %command%"

Runs perfect
Run with Proton 4.11-12
If D9VK is used graphics is completely dark using Shader Model 3.0 with HDR Rendering enabled. Unplayable. Turning off HDR Rendering option on Shader Model 3.0 or using Shader Model 2.0 with HDR Rendering enabled fixes darkness issue. Better currently without using D9VK as runs perfect without it.

Adding the widescreen fix allows the game to run perfectly. I couldn't test the controller support though.

The game runs perfectly with a wired PS4 controller. However, I had to set Proton to 4.2 as 4.11 make the controller mad. Xbox 360 controller never worked.

Runs out of the box without tweaks. Very very slight issues with skybox being rendered infront of the map instead of in the background, but this only happen once in the lighthouse on the first map.

Runs great in single player, but its very dark even for a splinter cell game

Single player works perfectly. Switching to Versus mode only shows the splash image before failing/crashing.

Game works out the box without any issues. Running Proton 4.2-2 on a Thinkpad x230.
