Works great out of box
Had no issues alt-tabbing like some people mentioned, but I couldn't switch workspaces without crashing.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
Intro cutscene didn't have any audio no matter what I tried. Every other cutscene was fine.
Also installed d3dx9 and xact through Protontricks, as others have suggested.
Wine virtual desktop
Mouse stops working after it loses focus on the window, such as with alt-tabbing. Use Wine virtual desktop to prevent the issue.
Make sure you disable mouse double clicking in the settings to prevent input lag. You will have to do this every time you launch the game. This is an issue you will encounter playing in Windows as well.
Works great out of box
Had no issues, both offline and online.
PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 %command% -novid -console -w 1920 -h 1080
No issues encountered.
Works great out of box
Joined friend's co-op game through Origin invite.
WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR=1 WINE_FULLSCREEN_FSR_STRENGTH=1 DXVK_ASYNC=1 PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 %command% +com_showLoadingScreen 0 +r_skipDOF 1
Crashed a few times.
Had to use GE Proton and the launch options for the game to run decently.
DXVK_ASYNC=1 %command% +com_showLoadingScreen 0
Alt-tabbing would make the game extemely choppy until restart if running fullscreen. Running borderless instead fixes the issue.
Performance is better with GE Proton.
Occasional FPS drops
Crashes after several hours of gameplay. Often crashes on launch.
Only works with experimental, or GE Proton. Game works great on my PC, until the inevitable crash several hours into the game. Often launches on second or third try. Hopefully, the things will get better soon.
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%
Might crash after a few hours of gameplay. Sometimes hangs on a black screen when launching.
No Steam overlay
In my experience, all issues can be avoided by playing offline, and forcing EAC off, I just prefer having online features. To do this, rename "start_protected_game.exe" to "start_protected_game.exe.bak", and then rename "eldenring.exe" to "start_protected_game.exe".
As others have noted, needs a launch option for full audio: "WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=n,b" PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=90 %command%"
Running the game just fine with F4SE and mods installed, game seems to be doing an alright job with the load order too. Continued a save from Windows with no problems.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8,ddraw=n,b" %command%
Didn't even try to launch the vanilla since I expected it to have same issues as Vice City. Use Silent Patch and Widescreen Fix, or whatever modpack gets the game working for you.
6.14-GE-2 GloriousEggroll
Use latest GE Proton release: https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
Had no issues running so far.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dinput8=n,b" %command%
Played with Fusion Fix and Radio Restoration mods.
Crashes too frequently
FPS drops at random intervals
Can crash anywhere from 10 seconds into the game, to a few hours in
Game is technically playable, but make sure you save as often as possible to avoid losing progress.
Works good out of box
I don't play online, so I don't know if it works or not, this is strictly for single player.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="bass,vorbisFile,vorbisHooked=n,b" %command%
Highly recommended to play it with the modpack from the Definite Edition Project, as the vanilla Steam version sucks. Alternatively, downgrading + Silent Patch + etc. also works.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="d3d8,ddraw=n,b" %command%
Vanilla game just launches to a black screen for me. Installing the Silent Patch and Widescreen Fix seems to be the simplest method for getting the game to a working state. I tried installing the Definitive Edition Patch and similar modpacks, but they all make the game too unstable to be playable in the long run.
Entering the level up menu for the first time seemed to kill my FPS, restarting the game fixed it.
Someone has suggested running the game with GE proton instead of using mf-install, but that did not work for me at all, game just crashed at start. Default proton and mf-install work with no issues.
-skip_launcher
Crashes on alt-tabbing if "exclusive fullscreen" selected instead of "fullscreen" in settings.
Crashed twice, once was while saving during a mission (game still saved successfully, just thought it was worth mentioning).
The only tinkering I did was a lauch flag to skip the launcher, game works without it.
PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr %command%
Game launches to a black screen without the launch options, so it doesn't work without tinkering, at least for me. Otherwise, had no issues playing the game.
Works great out of box
Crashes sometimes every few hours, but wasn't really much of an issue.
Works good out of box
Modding the game also works without issues.
eval $(echo "%command%" | sed "s/2KLauncher\/LauncherPatcher.exe'.*/mafiadefinitiveedition.exe'/")
Borderless windowed wouldn't fit my screen. Had to launch the game with regular fullscreen enabled, then I can run borderless without issues by switching it back on in options.
I assume the game would work without bypassing the 2K launcher too, but I didn't care to try.
Used PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 as others have suggested for a performance boost.
Keyboard works fine, but Xbox One controller wouldn't get detected. Solved by launching the game in Big Picture mode. During one race, controller completely bugged out. Switching to keyboard and again to controller seemed to have fixed it? I never again had an issue with it.
Game would stutter every few seconds. As others have suggested, I've setup user.cfg in the main game folder, and made Origin folder read only. https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/3955#issuecomment-647711660 Making Origin folder read only made my Xbox controller unusable again, even after launching in Big Picture. To solve this, I first launched the game, and then, while still in the main menu, made Origin folder read only. Didn't have to deal with the issue again.
PROTON_HIDE_NVIDIA_GPU=0 PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_1 VKD3D_SHADER_MODEL=6_6 %command%
GE Proton, and "VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_1" and "VKD3D_SHADER_MODEL=6_6" launch flags were necessary for the game to launch, otherwise I would get the "DirectX 12 is not supported on your system" error.
If running for the first time, you will need to run with GloriousEggroll, to be able to do character creation properly. Others have pointed out that GE might cause performance issues (I myself noticed none), but simply switch back to default afterwards. https://github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom/releases
Works great out of box
Others noted cinematics don't work, but they all worked just fine for me. Tested both default and GE Proton.
Works great out of box
Played co-op with a friend, had no issues.
Just another "just works" game.
Works good
Game takes ages to launch because of Ubisoft Connect.
Runs good
Crashed after a battle.
Ran with Proton to play multiplayer with friend on Windows.
