My default is Proton Experimental. I did not try any other version. Just worked out of the box. Install and play.
Does work Native (I didn't have issues with my dual monitor setup), but for me the bottom panel would always show even in Fullscreen. Forcing Proton Experimental fixed that.
Install and play!
Works perfectly out of the box. Just click install and play the game!
DXVK_NVAPI_DRIVER_VERSION=56070 %command%
Very minor artifacts at times, nothing serious.
If you don't have the 560 Nvidia drivers you won't be able to launch the game. However, adding the launch option allows the game to run. Windows runs the game at higher frames on the correct driver, but still around 90fps for me on Linux. Everything on Ultra, including ray tracing.
Make sure you run it on 6.3-8 or you will have an issue with the mouse not disappearing after going into action camera mode.
My previous report mentioned having to use an older version of Proton to avoid the mouse cursor staying in the center of the screen when switching to action camera. I decided to try the newest GE-Proton (9-22 at the time of writing this) and it works great with no issue.
Works perfectly out of the box on GE-Proton. I didn't try any other version of Proton. I did not try multiplayer and I have that disabled.
It just works right out of the box. I didn't try any other version of Proton, I only tried Experimental and it just worked.
%command% --disable-gpu
d3dx9, d3dx9_43, corefonts
The mouse will click in the incorrect location. Pressing Alt-Enter to go into fullscreen and then Alt-Enter to go back to windowed will fix the problem. Has to be done at every launch. I just do it at character selection.
Install and play!
Worked great out of the box for me, just clicked install and play! This also includes the new Origin server. I did not have to use any launch options.

If you use Nvidia, follow the instructions located in this comment here: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Proton/issues/8408#issuecomment-2657340142
I have played for 2 hours with no issues at all. Ground textures loaded perfectly!
Works perfectly out of the box and playing fine with a PS4 controller. My default Proton is Experimental, I didn't try any other version.
My default proton is experimental. I didn't try any other version. There is a green bar on the bottom of the screen after you start the game, but it goes away when you start playing.
My default is Proton Experimental. Game works perfectly fine. I did not try multiplayer.
Install and play!
Works great, have had zero issues with this game. Just install and press play!
Game just showed a black screen if I enabled frame gen, but after turning it off the game worked perfectly fine on ultra, including ray tracing and DLSS.
Worked perfectly for me out of the box using GE-Proton. I didn't try any other version of Proton. Played 5 matches in a row without issue.
SteamDeck=1 PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME=1 %command%
Game gave me a UE5 crash on launch without the launch options after the Season 1 update, no matter the proton version. I haven't tried the fix with any other Proton other than GE.
No longer need any launch options. The last Proton Experiemental update fixed the issue and it just works now.
Would run over 100fps but during combat or if a few players are around it would dip below 10fps and stutter like crazy.
It works out of the box. Proton Experimental is my default and I didn't try any other version.
My default proton is experimental and it works perfectly fine out of the box for me.
My default proton is experimental and it just worked out of the box for me on DX12.
My default is Proton Experimental and the game froze up and crashed during the first mission after about 15 minutes. I switched to GE-Proton9-14 and got through the rest of the mission and continued playing fine without issue.
Won't load into game from main menu
The game worked fine, twice. And the past couple days the game just won't load the save file or even start a new game anymore. I click to resume or new game and it will just get stuck on the loading screen. No error. No crash. Nothing in the logs. It just gives up. I tried low settings, ultra, with/without DLSS, FSR, etc... I tried many different Proton/GE-Proton versions (to the point the game would no longer activate so I had to wait 24 hours before trying again, I assume because of Denuvo thinking I am on a different system).
I give up for now. Will update with another report if I get it working on a future version of Proton or GE-Proton. My specifications on the right are all up to date. Or might just boot into Windows to finish this thing.
Game freezes when trying to load a saved game
Random stutters
This is an update from my previous report. Previously I could not load a saved game at all, and is an issue if you don't do any tinkering. Thanks to another reporter on here, I can confirm that fixes from this link fixed it and I am able to load into a saved game now: https://github.com/HansKristian-Work/vkd3d-proton/issues/2092#issuecomment-2523442025 (read more than just this comment that it is linked to).
I do get some stutters off and on, and changing graphic settings that have been recommended (like turning down contact shadows) didn't help at all. Still playable, just annoying during combat situations.
Previous fixes that were mentioned are no longer needed, the game loads saved games perfectly fine now on Proton Experimental! I haven't tried any other Proton version since the fix. The game also no longer mentions that you are on a HDD when you are not.
I was only able to open a save file after selecting Proton 8.0-5. If I just ran Starfield without setting that and tried opening a save file the game would just crash halfway through loading. Now the game runs flawlessly, everything on Ultra, FSR3 + Frame Gen at 100+fps and no issues.
Just worked for me out of the box. Proton Experimental is my default and I never tried the other versions.
I had originally tried playing on Proton Experimental (which is my default), and EAC booted me out of the game after the tutorial. I switched over to GE-Proton9-15 and played for a couple hours perfectly fine without getting booted.
Having seen reports of cinematics playing a black screen and only audio, I haven't had this issue at all on this version of GE-Proton. Everything plays perfectly fine.
Works out of the box.
Works great with no tinkering required. Launcher does appear in front of the game after launching but can just close the launcher and play fine.
Just works!
Works out of the box, along with Anniversary DLC content which downloaded and installed fine after launching the game.
If using a newer Proton version the mouse will stay visible in the center of the screen when right clicking and moving the camera.
MANGOHUD=1 %command%
Only using MangoHud to limit fps to 60 otherwise the game turns my PC into a jet engine. Otherwise it runs great, over 150fps on max settings without the limit.
--launcher-skip
My default proton is experimental. It does work for me without the --launcher-skip, I just use it to completely avoid the 3rd party launcher entirely.
sudo sysctl -w kernel.split_lock_mitigate=0
Ubisoft Connect refused to connect. After having done research I seen a few people having to use a VPN which then allows it to connect. This fix worked for me. Connecting to a VPN is the only way I was able connect to Ubisoft Connect.
And without doing the above command in the terminal the game will run at like 5fps. After the command it runs over 120fps for me.
Works Great on Proton!
When playing the Native version the mouse cursor would be off by a few pixels when in full screen. I would have to click slightly above menu options for it to register the click. Switching to Proton fixed that issue.
I was using Proton Experimental and when it was showing the mission end screen with your rewards it would flicker a bit and seem to go in and out of windowed mode. I switched over to GE-Proton9-21 and that issue is gone.
I did also have 1 crash on Proton Experimental but that was playing on the same day 1999 released before any hotfixes, so it could have been blamed on that. I have played 20+ hours since then without any issue.
Game will crash at start up if you have it on a separate drive from your Linux install.
My previous report about the game not launching if installed on a 2nd drive was a problem with me, not the game. No idea how to remove the error, so I am correcting it with this 2nd report.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="winhttp.dll=n,b" %command%
Install DLL or component, "dotnetdesktop 6"
The game works directly out of the box, however this is if you want the game modded from the Steam Workshop.
Ghosting
I have really weird ghosting issues as if Frame Gen and DLSS are turned on, even though they are off (DLSS option isn't even there, but Frame Gen is). Anything that moves just looks horrible, especially vehicles in the distance. Other than that, it runs great with everything on Ultra, no frame gen, and Smart Zoi enabled. Ghosting issue doesn't happen on Windows on the same settings.
