The game is smooth, at medium settings it's looks good. There's slight stuttering mostly on big city fights, not on boss fights.

It was stuttering a lot (8FPS/unplayable) in city combat with lots of enemies without the tweeks. It still stutters a little after the tweeks in city fights with lots of enemies but way better overall. Running Full screen 1920x1080. In game advanced graphics options: Resolution set to Medium, Frame rate at 60 Everything else is either Medium or low, Vsync was enabled. Using AMD FSR. Graphics setting a probably need a little more tweeking. Overall it is now playable for me.
GE-Proton10-4 and launch options needed else the stutter is really bad and gets worse overtime.

The longer I play and the more areas and models are used by the game, the slower it gets and loading into different areas (e.g. after teleporting) takes more and more time. Also driving vehicles and sometimes even running becomes really slow and stuttering.
Tried many of the different launch options that have already been mentioned here, but none of them really help reducing the significant framedrops that can cost victory in combat.

I don't know exactly what I'm doing. Can't say all launch commands are relevant but I have read a lot about them and I'm a massive gamer on other platforms and understand tech pretty well.

Edited (Steam library folder)/Once Human/Documents/GraphicConfig.xml to manually enable DX12 by replacing the 0 to 1 in the line:
<setting_enable_d3d12>0</setting_enable_d3d12>

<setting_enable_d3d12>1</setting_enable_d3d12>
Even though using DX12 reduces the stutters the game's reliance on network streamed assets still causes some stutters while loading the area, enemies and foliage. This makes the game near unplayable when using DX11. Loading in and out of the menus is still a tediously slow process

LD_PRELOAD="" PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 SDL_VIDEODRIVER=windows %command%
LD_PRELOAD="" is to prevent loading the Steam recording feature, which eventually causes extreme stuttering (after 25min-45min). This affects every game on Steam, so you don't need this if you aren't experiencing it in other games.
PROTON_SET_GAME_DRIVE=1 seems to fix the game. I suspect the game thought that the game drive was full, thereby never caching models or textures? Either way, this restores the game to Proton-5.25 glory. Completely functional in all respects, likely better than Windows.
SDL_VIDEODRIVER=windows is for anticheat.
AMD users may need RADV_PERFTEST=gpl depending on how old your Kernel/mesa is. It has been enabled by default for quite a few versions, but it's possible that some Ubuntu-based distros still won't have it.
Proton experimental may not be nessecary.
Note than -vulkan, -dx11, and so forth do nothing in this game. This is easily verified with mangohud. It seems like the only way to change the graphics library is with the launcher version of the game.

The game is so badly optimised that it lags every time i open it from steam
Please just change from steam to BayLoadingLauncher since it will fix all the lag and stuff

Some areas took a moment to load with associated fps drops, but everything seemed to resolve after a few (<20) seconds.
-vulkan
Crashed initially on first run when joining world. Adding -vulkan flag seems to have resolved it.

Severe video lag makes this game barely playable most of the time. Also, the occasional freezes are irritating.
I experience severe lag and stuttering. Sometimes it's so bad it's barely playable, but I persist because I really like this game.
Occasionally the game freezes so I have to Alt+Tab to Steam and stop the process.
It's best to exit the game every couple of hours just to minimize the problems.

-vulkan RADV_PERFTEST=gpl PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1

Proton build: proton-cachyos-9.0-20250307-slr-x86_64_v3
A custom build is not mandatory. The x86_64_v3 even moreso (it's supported on anything past ~2012, usually a 1%-5% improvement for general workloads)
LD_PRELOAD="" is the most important flag. Steam-for-linux issue 11446 indicates that many games start experiencing lag after 30-40min, sound familiar? The game still lags like hell at times, especially around chaos weavers, but it does subsequently recover and become as smooth at the first 5 mintues. I was also experiencing crashes on Niri+xwayland-satellite, which LD_PRELOAD has also resolved.
This will disable the steam-native game recording feature.

I put all graphical settings to low and capped fps at 60. It ran with cpu maxed out, and encountered shader stuttering during combat.
items will pop in and out of existence i.e. trees rocks and landscape items, NPCs. Sometimes they remain invisible but still impede movement.
Frame rate drops from 120 to <5fps entering menus, in combat, around other players, on vehicles, in dungeons etc. Eternaland runs well. My 5900x runs at 100% and max temp the entire time.
Crashes predictably when character is in certain locations, i.e. outside dungeons.
The game is updated almost daily, and while those updates do seem to be minutely and incrimentally fixing some shader stuttering, i find it incredibly frustrating to play outside of resource mining. Also input sensitivity fucking sucks, constantly hitting the same key over and over to trigger correct character action, and melee is delayed or outright broken depending on the day's update.

If your have it tinkered right and are looking for 1 hour sessions with 5 minute breaks to stretch your legs and restart the game, it runs.

No [Ocean] Water + prolonged artifacts time when rendering down long range scopes
Rapid frame loss if a high graphics area is loaded too quickly [This is managed if you know the regions well enough to stop and enter on foot into certain renderings] Around the third to fifth use of a warp will cause a forever loading screen, Alt+F4 is effective at working around this.
Prolonged Idling can causes crashes [before protontricks this would brick the entire user session], using beds/seats, certain menus will allow you to AFK safely. Alt Tabbing can also cause you to hit that crash, but I believe it's due to whatever lack of input causes the first crash, not a seperate thing, as using a bed/seat will prevent that crash too.
If you want to do an extended session switch off steam overlay, you can toggle it on briefly if you want to use the store but it does increase the risk of crashes in long plays. After using Warps or loading three regions, restarting the game will help avoid bugs/slow downs.
Australian Ping has harmed my gaming experience in Once Human more than the technical issues.

This game is absolutely not worth your time, unless you have friends who are set on playing it (like I do). There are many alternatives which work great on Linux: Nightingale and Enshrouded immediately come to mind.
Note that all the of -vulkan
-dx11
etc. flags suggested around here do absolutely nothing, you can trivially verify this with Mangohud. The only way to change the GPU API is through Loading Bay, which isn't really usable on Linux yet (I did manage to get into the menus with bottles and Wine 10).
Proton-with-Wayland selected my iGPU by default. Check the Arch Wiki on how to identify your dGPU (replacing <varies>
in my options). This proton build seems to crash protontricks, so I haven't tried any of those - win10 definitely helped on other proton versions. I am running on Sway. Things were very crashy with Niri+xwayland-sattelite, which prompted me to try a wayland-native proton build.
If this wayland-native proton doesn't work for you, the other protontricks suggested here worked extremely well (especially alldlls and win10).
More testing required. So far only slightly worse than Windows when it's bad, and significantly better than Windows otherwise.
SDL_VIDEODRIVER is for anticheat compatability.

The issue: Tried many of the available option from here (with latest proton and experimental) and it had a lot of lag issues. It wasn't the game because on windows it worked great.
The solution: In the end I gave cachyos latest proton a try and I had about 10-15 extra fps over Windows. The fps drops are still there, but it doesn't stagger the screen and the game is playable now with medium settings on Directx12
Testing env: Walking around in Deadsvile and see if the screen staggers while walking for a few minutes. Didn't have any stagger with the above solution even during rain. I will play more in the following days (when the new servers I will join starts) and update in case I face game-breaking issues.

Fairly brief lags on loading areas, but clears rather quickly.
This is essentially my first experience using Protontricks and I went through these settings almost in alphabetical order trying things. I felt I noticed mild improvements with each one, but the biggest came from changing the windows version from the default of 7 to 10 along with setting the shader backend to glsl and the renderer to gdi. I tried just those settings on a very similar setup and it was not enough so I enabled the rest and achieved similar performance. To note, the second system tested with Proton 9.0-4 and no steam launch options. The results were not quite as good, but still very playable, especially compared to all experiences since 7-55. I would say these settings are very close to 7-55 when that was an option.
