Lowered in-game settings to minimum possible. Did not touch Steam Deck settings in quick menu.
Depth of Field blur was low resolution and clipped over textures. Might be a low settings thing, but it does not bother me.
TDP max 3w, 40 fps cap, and 40hz refresh rate.
I did not need to do the battery life tweaks, just min maxing.
Great for potato laptop
Works better than expected with good battery life on my Razer Blade Stealth 2016, power save power profile works as well as balanced power profile. For context, Youtube is unusable in the power save power profile for anything greater than 1440p 30fps. This game does 1440p without hardware related limitations.
It works, nothing to to note really
Fullscreen did not play well with autotile Polonium, i dont think its the games fualt however i thought i would still mention it.
Used FSR and rendered at 600p. FSR will not work unless a resolution lower than 1280x800p, is a 16:10 aspect ratio, and windowed mode is on. Graphics are set to medium.
Right on dpad is bound to hide hud, yet right on dpad is also used to menu select which will also hide the hud when selecting to the right.
Had an odd issue where keybind mappings would change randomly. and when i say randomly i mean randomly buttons would just do random actions (example, Button A would shoot then 10 seconds later would crouch).
It really came down to the infrequent button mapping issues that made multiplayer difficult.
Enabled L4 and R4 to jump and spin. Just a preference and not required
Lowered FPS cap to 40 with matching refresh rate.
Input was only recognized via touchscreen on first launch and after a game restart it was fine.
Would see dips in certain parts of levels between 20-25 FPS, otherwise it's a flat 40 FPS (due to FPS limit). Still playable with the dips.
For some reason the Devine Insiration upgrades menu slashes FPS in half. 20-30 fps Frametimes all over the place.
I played this game using a Steam Dock on a TV rendered at 1080p

Limit power draw to 3w and optionality set 40fps (40Hz).
When I suspended the game after a level was complete, after wake, the game was unresponsive to inputs and had to force close the game. This only occurred once.
The game would stall on first time set up when I had the default proton version in use (proton9-4). When I swapped to the version above, the first time setup occurred with no issue and proton9-4 also worked post first setup.
Text is a bit smaller than i would like, not too small though.
crackling at somepoints in the game
Tried 2 GE proton versions as noted. Don't have time to troubleshoot this. Will update if i ever get it to work
Changes to improve the battery performance were completely optional. I only did this out of preference.
Game does not support Steam Deck Native resolution.
Would randomly get disconnected from the game servers. Occured about 3 times over about 4 hours of play time.
EGS social Panel
in the past I would occationaly experience a server disconnected message and have to find a new game.
Before the most recent update to the game i used GE-Proton7-26. The game would no longer launch with the current game version so I updated to GE-Proton7-29 and the game now launches and works as intended.
I do not have a windows save as i first played this game on my steam deck, Can't test what others have said below regarding save files.
The game runs well while not draining the battery too much. Only thing to note is FSR has very noticeable artifacts but don't bother me.
When navigating menus, the game likes mouse like navigation until you hover over a button, then you can use controller like menu navigation. Runs great with great battery life.
Lowered frame limit to 40 FPS (40hz) - Steam Deck LCD
The default is a community layout and the user who made it did as good as possible making it, but the game is still hard to play on controller. Use a keyboard if you can. Still fun even if you don't have a keyboard.
SSAO is Broken when running natively, swap to proton to fix SSAO
Used to play this on an arcade and it plays the same with no degredation of the expirence.
__GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATION=1 %command%
The startup option is required if you frametimes look like a sharpie and not a pen line.
It Just Works
did not pull saves from steam cloud.
A wonderful game for a low powered device
A really good game that can run on my old Razer Blade Stealth 2016. My save was pulled this time unlike when I was on Fedora.
Set TDP to 3w and 40 FPS (40hz) frame limit - Steam Deck LCD
Game defaults to running proton and not native, I started a save on proton and the save does not carry over if running native. Too lazy to move the save file manually
Used FSR to render at lower resolution. Also put in a frame cap (both are optional and battery life is acceptable regardless)
FSR (720p to 1080p) is not done well in Tales of Arise , however I can get over it.
Steam deck default handheld controls are quite odd and not intuitive. Just switched to a Xbox controller since touchpad controls were used as a dpad for menu navigation. Im also using a Steam Dock
If you are using an external display like me, just remember to set the game the game resolution to native in properties to allow 1080p resolution in-game. (this is the case for all games or they will only go up to 720p for me unless I do this)
z-fighting in some textures, not too common.
Steam cloud did not fetch save. I dont know if the game supports steam cloud saving.
not working when used via Heroic launcher as far as i can tell.
