It would hang after 15 minutes of play with shader quality set to "high". Setting it to medium fixed that
Some minor artifacts on trees
Controllers were not detected. I had to disable steam inputs, and then I could use my wired xbox 360 controller and my stadia controller
Plays like native
Tried both single player and multiplayer with a friend without any issues.
Takes an hour in-game for shaders to compile
Shader compilation is bad, makes the game unplayable because of long stuters until shaders are compiled. After watching 2 games, shaders were compiled enough to make the game enjoyable
Amazing and perfectly fluid
Plays smooth at 144fps, I would say I never felt it skipped a frame even
Enjoyable session, with minor stutter on new scenes
Some minor stutter during changes of scenes
Lag spikes are a bit too much to enjoy the game
Medium lag spikes
Feels great, but only in windowed mode
Fullscreen only allows native resolution
Switched to the Vulkan backend
The default version used by default is very old and was crashy for me. Switching to the latest stable version of proton made it work perfectly
Some stutter when loading scene
Before relaunching the game, I have to delete ~/.steam/steam/steamapps/common/Detroit Become Human/ShaderCache/VkPipelineCache.bin
Multiple input and display problems
Could not change resolution or go into windowed mode
Game would only accept input from a controller
Couldn't change resolution from native, made perf really bad
Feels like this games has compatibility hacks that makes it things linux = steam deck
Proton experimental gets me to the game optimisation step
I get to 25%, the game uses 45+Gb of memory, and then crashes.
Played several chapters of the first episode. Plays buttery smooth at 60fps in 4k.
Runs smoothly at 60fps in 4k without any glitch or manual configuration. For some obscure reason it takes a good 3 seconds more to launch on the same machine compared to proton 3.16-8 on Ubuntu 18.10, but that is really minor.
Browser works, but not VR videos
Crashes when trying to play a video
Played online with friends without any problem with my controller
Launcher got stuck in infinite loop on first start, had to reboot. Everything worked fine after that.
taskset -c 0,1,2,3,4,5,6 %command%
Game crashes if you have more than 16 cores, use the launch command to hide them in that case
Since proton 8.0 can now play without thinkering
Sometimes games load indefinetely
Used to need Proton GE + launch arguments
Fatal error on a Threadripper
As others have said, game cannot launch on threadrippers for some reason. I get a fatal error after the splash screen.
Edit the launch command to be: taskset -c 0,2,4,6 %command%
The game seems to have issues with CPU with very high core count, and this command forces the game to only use the first 4 cores.
Whole computer freeze during intro scene
Tried multiple times, always freezes at the same place
To make the controllers work (a xbox 360 and a stadia one) I had to disable steam input. The game itself recognized the controllers correctly after that. Before I found that trick, I also disabled the origin overlay using this guide: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1222670/discussions/0/3001051775918852621/ . I am not sure if the origin change is required, it might have worked with only the controller config.
Only black screens inside headset
I can see the game running on my monitor, but nothing inside my headset after the rockstar logo
Crashes on alt-tab
The luncher crash has been fixed in Proton Experimental
With Proton 5.0 it doesn't launch at all, however with 4.11 it works perfectly with no other tweak
Plays pretty well
Some stuttering in first 30 minutes, pretty sure it's the shader cache
Origin has annoying popups
Really enjoyable
Regions with many players have frame rate drop, not sure if linux specific
Game works, but framerate is too bad to enjoy
lots of stutter and general low framerates
Need to followd hogsy's tip: The EA App launcher fails to launch until you select an older version of Proton (i.e., 6) Once it's installed, you can switch back to the latest Proton version.
Plays like a native game.
Played using a xbox 360 controller. I have rumble emulation turned off across the board, which might be required (I didn't test with it turned on).
Game works, but no communication via sounds makes it unplayable
Can't hear others, others can't hear me
Followed these steps to make it work:
Delete /Steam/steamapps/compatdata/552500
Enable Beta "temporary_launcher_workaround - Bypass Launcher"
Restart Steam
Verify the game files
Delete / Rename "WebView2Loader.dll" and "MicrosoftEdgeWebview2Setup.exe" ( you can find both here: /Steam/steamapps/common/Warhammer Vermintide 2/launcher )
Run the game & select either "Bypass Launcher" (dx11) or "Bypass Launcher (dx12)"
Works if I host the game
