For somel areas the FPS drops from 40-50 down to 8-12.
I have to reduce resolution and graphics settings dramatically in some areas, otherwise it works very well.
Flawless with standard Proton 9

Crashes on experimental or 9.0-3 on launch and says "Assertion failed! Expression:"!status && "vkCreateRayTracingPipelinesKHR"
It runs DX12 on Proton 8.0-5 but not on 9 or experimental. When attempting to run on 9 or Experiment it crashes at launch and says and says "Assertion failed! Expression:"!status && "vkCreateRayTracingPipelinesKHR"

rare crackling, seemingly when the game loads data on very high settings

It is an OK game
When playing the game using DirectX 12, cutscene after the last boss fight causes a game crash. Selecting DirectX 11 option when launching the game somehow prevents that crash and allows you to see ending cutscenes including end credits

Works fine out of the box
Played for about 12 hours in total without any issues at the time of writing this
Ran great, noticeably slower than Windows, but still fine to play from beginning to end

Worked out of the box on an RX 6800 and current 7900 GRE.
Tested all the features due to a GPU upgrade. DX11 and DX12 work fine and comparably. FSR and XeSS work as expected - XeSS has very slightly better quality at the highest preset, but worse performance. Lumen, unexpectedly, worked immediately, but is very hard on the frame rate on planets. Planets in general have lower framerate than space due to the additional geometry.

I had to start Pop_OS in "NVIDIA Graphics" or "Hybrid Graphics". Couldn't get it to run in "Compute Graphics."

Using the mentioned command line argument, I was able to get it to boot using DirectX 12 and the game was working perfectly fine using Proton 9.0.2

Runs perfectly, no issues
Installed and ran great. Did nothing but click the play button.

Works out of the box. Start with DX11, set everything to low, except for textures medium and Anti-Aliasing high. FSR 1.0 + Balanced. Still looks good, usually >45 FPS, but goes down to (lowest) 37 FPS in parts of crowded systems like Prescott Starbase. Tested on Steam Deck OLED, ~15h into the game.

This has been an issue before and is likely an issue with Steam itself, Everspace 2 works perfectly, and smoothly, especially compared to past builds. Rockfish has been doing an outstanding job working to optimize the game, and while it is not needed, GE can help some launch issues reported if experienced. But otherwise, out of the box experience is good! 20-28 FPS on High, 19 on Epic, and Med and Low are playable, but virtually unreadable. Scalers to preference.

Admittedly, you CAN change the default controls if you're not a fan of it. I don't think it's terrible, but my friend also tried and he didn't care for it. But overall, the controls work fine.
As well, the text is fine for me but I can forsee some peeps wanting it to be bigger. But ~2 hours of battery life and no changes made to any of the settings worked fine for me.

Game launches indefinitly
It launched with bottles, however it blacked out cutscenes
With proton 8, DX12 is recommended

70-90 fps @ 4k + epic graphical setting + dx12
The best space arcade shooter ever in modern times. Go have fun!...Just, mind the crashes.
dx12 is unplayable. weird random lag everywhere
seems to be a memory leak if you craft too many items in your inventory repeatedly that are spesific to windows compatability layers.
It works! Linux support is not happening due to serious issues with UE4.
Some performance issues but otherwise fine
Performance drops significantly in certain locations
Needed to fully uninstall and reinstall to get the game to get past the intro splash screen and to the menu.
Needed to uninstall and reinstall to fix startup crash bug. Running on Proton 8.0-1 with DX11. Now runs without any issues.
Game appears to be borked. Have tried Proton: Default, Proton Experimental, GE-Proton7-50, Proton 7.0-6. DX11 and DX12 Everspace version: current and experimental beta Can install VC++ redistributables, but game crashes after splash screen to UE4 error page with no details.
Occasional freezing after cutscens.
35-40 fps consistency
In-game: D3D11. Set windowed: 1066x666. Anti-Aliasing: High. All settings: Low. FSR v2.1.1
Deck: FSR at 5. 40Hz limit.

Launches on wrong monitor, have to use KDE Window settings to force it on my main monitor.
Framerate tanks in crowded areas. Framerate also lowers over time, restarting the game 'resets' this
The devs have said they are working on Steam Deck performance, so hopefully the performance issues will be solved soon.

even now with v1.0 still works perfectly fine. very much enjoyable!
Direct X12 did not work for me with the Intro cutscene - Direct X11 works perfectly
reduced watts and limited fps to keep battery to a reasonable level. Default values will drop battery at about 50% per hour.
some text was small but 80% was readable
battery life is horrendous but overall, game is 100% playable with some small text.
Perfect with Proton 8.0
Latest Patch Fixed Crashing Cutscenes
Since the latest patch (Hotfix 1.0.33633) cutscenes are by default limited to 30FPS and will not crash the game due to a memory leak. Good job, Rockfish!
Game is perfectly playable so far - although the performance could be better, considering the hardware.

[ EVERSPACE 2 DEMO ] Gameplay seems to work fine under the default and experimental, but the cutscenes break the game.

light crackling under said cutscenes
Gameplay works, but the cutscenes that use art are super choppy, getting increasingly worse up to the point the game hangs and my entire system becomes unresponsive, forcing me to restart my pc.
reduced to 30 fps
when there's a lot of action it cracks a bit
sometimes it drops between 25-30 fps
Works out of the box.
The developers were obviously thinking about proton compatibility as a Linux native port and Steam deck compatibility were announced already far before release.
Some framedrops, FSR helps a lot. Limit framerate to 60FPS or the cutscenes are borked.

It's a little rough around the edges, but core gameplay is great as well as visuals. Totally worth it!

Music sometimes goes away and comes back for a fraction of a second
Some crashes, not always sure what the cause is. Might be present on Windows as well
Always skip the 2d cut scenes - It will eat your vram and halt your entire PC
HOTAS works, but the game isn't really designed for it. Stick with Mouse and KB.
Fix the cutscene memory leak and it's golden.
Memory leak in cutscenes. Once swap fills up, computer poops itself. Skipping cutscenes is a workaround.
