Had to rename the .exe file like others have reported. Also, at random times the game goes into an infinite scroll in one direction of the map, making it impossible to continue playing until restarted.
Does not run at all, closes itself the moment it launches using any Proton version
-oldui
Completely broken, no matter if Proton, Experimental or GE is used.
-xres 1280 -yres 800
Changed back layouts, some ABXY, etc for personal taste.
At the first run, you must run the game with the following arguments "-win -xres 1280 -yres 800", launch the game once before closing it again. You can now remove the "-win" part. Do all this from Lutris. After this you can run the game from the Deck UI.
In order to play with mods, add "-ui" to arguments. This will launch the window normally associated with inserting the game disc. From this window, click Game Browser, then you will find your installed mods under the Mods tab. Tested successfully with Tiberium Essence.
-ui -win -fullscreen -xpos 0 -ypos 0
Leaving fullscreen and re-maximizing the game would cause it to crash. The launch options provided makes the game run essentially in borderless windowed mode and removes the crashing issue. -ui is to get the game launcher which is required to launch mods.
If you are satisfied with the base game and playing online CnCNet, it all works smoothly now with GEProton9-22 as it installs CnCNet for you
The CnCNet launcher just plays loud static instead of the main menu music. Disabling menu music in CnCNet removes the static noise.
If someone can figure out how to install mods like Mental Omega I would greatly appreciate it.
Works great, just avoid minimising the game
Alt-tabbing or hitting the "Windows key" instantly crashes the game without any error messages.
Runs well and only requires a quick launch option to run flawlessly
Enter launch options -win -fullscreen -xpos 0 -ypos 0 to avoid crash upon minimising the game, this makes the game run in essentially borderless fullscreen.
Game crashes shortly after entering a match, main menu is rendered static instead of the animated background
As with any installation, you must attempt to launch it first, then create the Options.ini file at the correct location
Completely unplayable at the present time
%command% -quickstart
Some menu text like confirmation dialogues is screwed up (displayed way too big) but it is a minor issue.
Without GE, the game was indefinitely stuck on the splashscreen launcher. The launch %command% -quickstart skips the EA logo and intro cinematic. The main menu map however remains static, not the iconic live background.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% NOSPLASHPRELOAD
Very rarely when scrolling, the mouse cursor becomes slightly glitchy looking. Fixed by stopping scrolling, and does not affect anything beyond minor visual.
The launch command is required to start the game successfully.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% NOSPLASHPRELOAD
Somewhat slow startup the game itself, but runs totally butter smooth without any problems once the game is initially loaded up.
No controls but mouse 1 and 2 accepted. On screen keyboard input is ignored making saving impossible.
Unplayable performance. OpenGL gives roughly 20 FPS, Vulkan gives about 1 inside the actual game. Menu is sluggish at 5-10 FPS, loading screen runs silk smooth though...
Under Windows on the same hardware, the game has been running extremely smooth (60+ FPS) and never having any performance drops. On this OS, I had drops down to the mid 20's without anything too intense going on on the screen.
Seems to run without any problems, but performance is impacted to the point of being too sluggish to enjoy with my current hardware. FPS swayed quite wildly in some areas between 80 to mid 20's without anything going on to warrant it.
gamemoderun %command% -skipintro -nosplash
The launcher kind of hovers in a state between background and foreground even if another window (like the game) is in focus. Simply closing the launcher solves it.
The game crashes after loading the main menu. Running this command in the Terminal will seemingly fix the issue and make the game playable: sudo sysctl -w vm.max_map_count=1048576
Splash sceen opens, then shortly thereafter a popup error appears: "D3D9 Application Could not reset the Direct 3D device. This application will now exit."
Seems to work great out of the box!
Game runs totally fine, skirmish, campaign with cutscene sequences, etc.
Easy Anti Cheat does not work, preventing matchmaking play online.
Steam gives up loading the game almost at once.
For some reason I am not able to start the game. Different Proton versions (Experimental, GE, etc) does nothing to solve the issue.
Aside from the anti cheat, it runs as if native.
No matchmaking available due to anti cheat not working on Proton
After waking device from sleep once, the resolution was off. Fixed by setting another resolution, then back to 1280x800.
Unfortunately unplayable, requested a refund from Steam support, as EA support was beyond useless at basic reading even.
Created an EA account through Firefox as EA App was not working at this step. Otherwise works without any complaints.
/dx11
I ran the Windows/Proton version per recommendation to avoid a supposed "timed crash that happens if you have more than X CPU cores".
Does not work, even with Gigaa's suggested fixes
Stuck on splashscreen forever
The game itself runs as good as native with the right configuration
Multiplayer client FAF installs and detects the game, but refuses to load a game, citing "code 53" upon trying custom games or ladder.
However, if you are looking to play online, FAF seems to be borked for the time being.
Without GE, the game would run sluggish (below 30 FPS) and only skirmish would load. Campaign would get stuck on an infinite loading screen.
Completely unplayable performance, or looking so terribly blurry it is hard to see what is going on
Around 7-8 FPS at 1440p all low settings. With 50% resolution I get just below 50 FPS.
Nothing to complain about, no noticeable decrease in performance or weird behaviour.
GOG version installed through Lutris. Not possible to start with standard Proton or GE, game never loads up.
Broken?
Unstable, not playable
It is possible to get into the main menu by repeatedly re-maximising the game window that kept minimising itself and then tapping Enter->Escape->Escape. The game loaded the main menu briefly before locking up and forcing a hard close of the game.
Use the Windows version with Proton. The Linux native variant is several versions out of date and it is not possible to play online with Windows users if you use that one.
Manually edited the config file (search in your Home directory for "EugenSystems") to change "WindowFormStyle" from 1 to 0 (game now launches in windowed mode, otherwise I would just get a black screen)
I also had to set my taskbar to auto-hide, else it would get in the way of the game's UI
The game requires you to use a Proton version, not the native, in order to play with others online
