gamemoderun %command% SKIPINTRO

Run with Pop-cap over 200
I install I play I win (with 6 KI friends)

No issues
The game works normlly without any extra steps.
Wie auf Windows

Le jeu devient incliquable
C'est la version 4.11.13 qui fonctionne le mieux pour moi

For whatever reason, the game no longer displays anything (videos or menus) after the opening launch window.
Audio from the Microsoft logo and the main menu are audible in the background, but there is no image. Tried multiple different Proton versions including GE, but nothing made a difference.

In-game text is small.
Plays find on KB&M default steam proton version (8.0-3 or Experimental)

Playable all the times
some times performance low
Works fine.
Sometimes cannot move mouse to left and up edges to scroll. Alt-tab and back usually fixes this. Can also use arrowy keys to navigate.
Did not try multiplayer
Runs out of the box. Only needed to disable vsync, antialias shadows and 3d water to run smoothly on my laptop setup
If it's run in game mode, it's really bad. It should work better on desktop mode
Multiplayer works well. I tested multiplayer with CBA, FVD and Jurassic Park mods, all worked without issues.
Text is cut off and font rendering is weird and sometimes flickering
Game loses focus when on screen keyboard would pop up
Deck trackpads are no fun with this game
Cannot input text such as entering a save game file name.
Map scrolling stutters heavily
The game works best with keyboard and mouse in Desktop Mode. Deck Game Mode esp. with the trackpads is a waste of time.
Feels native
Scrolling bug fixed by replacing the exe with this https://davidgow.net/hacks/aoescroll.html
Text chat bug fixed it by toggling vsync off and on. PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% is no longer necessary https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OUodR1F67Xc
Text working perfectly, no scrolling bugs and you get to use DXVK which is more performant.

Most ingame text is cut off
Needs to be set to Full Desktop on every launch (or maybe just flip between settings), otherwise the game will stutter severly when scrolling around
Inputting text does not work, the keyboard will immediately disappear. So to even save the game, you gotta overwrite a save instead of making a new one.
I've played through one campaign so far, it controls really well thanks to the trackpad. Doubleclick is difficult to perform though, so best to make a shortcut for it
Start the game already!
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1
Works great, at least in singleplayer (I haven't tested multiplayer).
I had an issue where the game would randomly freeze about ~30 min into a match, but disabling VSync fixed it.
One time the launcher failed to start multiple times when launching it from Steam, but restarting Steam fixed it.

Works normally
Works as it did in Windows.
Works like in Windows.
The game plays well even on even an older laptop running Linux and proton. Fantastic for alleviating boredom in a hotel room when on a consulting gig.
I swapped the mouse buttons so that left click is on the right trigger and vice versa. Just personal preference.
If you care more about the strategy and performance than the appearance, this is better than the Definitive Edition.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 SKIPINTRO
Other player's connections will impact you if there are many players or bots.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
add PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command% to launch option, then works fine
Game used to have big issues with windowing on dual screen setups, with Proton 7.0 those issues seem to be resolved. Also did not need to use the SKIPINTRO launch command.
%command% SKIPINTRO
Initial fullscreen was off, alt+tab out of it and back in fixed this.

Minor: have to do alt+return after altabbing, to restore fullscreen
Just install and play.
Just run without any issues.
Actualy it is not laging and fun to play a windows game on ubuntu
Update: Changing the Proton version to 4.11 solved the problem
Use Proton 4.11
Game launches with black screen and cursor

Not even black screen
After clicking play button waits for a while and button becomes green again. No error or output

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 SKIPINTRO did the trick.

Not working with latest Proton versions
The latest Proton versions try to load the splash video, but when going to the main menu screen gets black. Latest Proton version working for me is 5.0-10.
I got to the launcher of AOE2, but after clicking play, nothing happens. Neither with tweaks as nostartup and force opengl. I gave up.
Added "SKIPINTRO" flag in Steam game settings
I don't know if the PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 fixed anything.
Avoid picking "random" map in random map as it tends to crash
Fixed it by disabling my second screen
The stuck arrow key problem, used https://github.com/kukkerman/aoe2-scroll-bugfix to fix it
Runs great out of the box. Stable 144 FPS with Vsync on with my hardware
the intro bugs the installation and i had to use PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 SKIPINTRO
