Works fine.
Sometimes cannot move mouse to left and up edges to scroll. Alt-tab and back usually fixes this. Can also use arrowy keys to navigate.
Did not try multiplayer
Just works.
Tutorial audio cuts about half a second before end of sentence. Not a big deal
Tutorials and capaign all good. Did not try multiplyer.
I previously reported it as Silver, but it does play way better now. It is almost Platinum actually. There is no more graphical glitches, or flickering textures and shadows. I have a newer Proton and Mesa, so hopefully that was it. I tested various game features, played a bit of Episode 1, and later episode, and checked all the options, collectibles, etc. It all works. The only minor glitch is mouse acceleration is somehow still not perfect, and makes control a bit hard, but it is better than before! Also the "moon/sun follows the view vertically" bug, is still present. Really weird, I know others people also experienced it, but it doesn't really affect the game in any significant way. The game is fully playable and works very smoothly, and I couldn't spot any other issues.
Use WINEDLLOVERRIDES="xaudio2_7=b,n" PROTON_FORCE_LARGE_ADDRESS_AWARE=1 to make it work. Both are required, otherwise game either crashes on start, or when starting a new game or loading a load. With this two options you should be good.
The incorrect moon/sun placement that was present when using WineD3D is fixed and doesn't occur when using D9VK (default now in Proton), so that is nice. I only spotted one graphical glitch, a single texture on a ground in specific location being solid black. Still need to confirm if it is there also on Windows or not. Otherwise everything is perfect, visuals, videos, audio, inputs, performance, etc.
Works perfectly
If you Alt-Tab when starting a match, or when in replicator, and go back, a character screen, or replicator, respectively might now show. A bit annoying. Could be a game bug.
For AMD and Intel cards, make sure to have recent Mesa version, where gpl (graphics pipeline library) is enabled by default, or enable it if required on a older versions. This will ensure stutter free expirience out of the box, with no extra shader compilation steps at startup.
The Glyph launcher works fine out of the box, but once I login, I can't start the game, because I only see a big red "UPDATE" button. Clicking it does nothing essentially.
PS. I do not have linked Steam account.
Launcher works. Clicking Play, game fails with a dialog titled "Fatal error" and saying "Unable to extract game executable.". Nothing interesting in terminal. This is for a demo (Bejeweled 2 Deluxe Free Demo).
It was Borked for me before in the past, but now it just works perfectly and flawlessly. Nice game.
Runs perfectly in DX9 mode, using DXVK / D9VK (default). I easily get 150 fps at max settings, at 1920x1920 resolution.
A lot of dialog audio is cut just a moment the end. Just a fraction of a second, but it is noticable.
With most recent Proton, Wine and DXVK, it works now flawless. No more shadow flickers, or any other problem. Game in DX10 mode starts, and but the screen is blank, but one can hear the menu sounds, and even load the game. DX10 benchmark crashes. There might be occasional stutter due to shader compilation, but using Mesa ACO on AMD cards really helps a lot, and game is very very smooth. Also it works fine with various aspect ratios nicely.
Various shadow artifacts on ground, and flickering when moving. But even with that it is playable. Setting "Shadows Off" in settings remove these artifacts, and game still looks pretty nice. Not super nice, but nice.
No other tweaks needed.
New levels and saves load very slowly for a game of this age. More complex modern games load much faster than this one.
Launcher, logging in, downloading game assets, character creation, game play on a server do work. Graphics, audio and input all work fine. Even maximal settings all work. However, the game crashes after about 10 minutes of play in random locations and at random times.
LaunchPad.exe crashes immediately. No error messages. Crash report sent to developers tho.
Almost Platinum. Zero tweaks needed in wine or proton. But there is one minor bug, that prevents people from playing that is easy to fix.
First off when you go into first cutscene, screen will be gray, and actual video that should play, will not play correctly and maybe mouse will be not reacting. Simply Alt-Tab to desktop, and jump back into game. Mouse focus should be restored and play perfectly! All further videos and cut scenes will be working fine.
Other than the game plays perfectly. Zero artifacts. Amazing graphics and lightning. Perfect audio and controls. Performance is excellent. So Platinum-.
There is one setting that doesn't work. "Lighting Quality - Very High" is broken (game is stuck loading forever, one needs to kill -9 it). Everything can be set to Very High, Ultra. But Lighting Quality must be set below Very High. Then it works perfectly.
Totally borked with 3.16-4. Game immediately crashes in radeon_dri.so! With Proton 3.7-8 game starts up and looks to be working, only to freeze the screen and keyboard (computer and kernel still are ok, and even audio is working) one you are in the mission after 10 seconds or less - my only option was to reboot a system. Only workable workaround is to use AMD vulkan drivers (amdvlkn), which are a pain in the ass to install, and causes other games to have worse performance. Once you do that (amd vulkan drivers), the game is actually playable, but: 1) there is severe stutter on first play, 2) there are few minor artifacts, 3) I still can't connect to online servers. And that is just from testing it for about an hour on just two maps. Not recommended! PS. This is for a "free" version, so test it yourself.
After upgrading from Mesa 18.1.9 to 18.2.0, the game actually doesn't crash or freezes my system anymore, even with Proton 3.16-4. And compared to amdvlkn drivers, there are no graphical glitches at all (there were few very minor ones in amdvlkn). There is still minor stuttering due to shader compilations on the first play when entering new areas / levels, but it is also better than in amdvlkn. Other than that game looks to be working nicely, smoothly, etc. The game still can't connect to online servers, so achievements and various challenges can't be played.
Runs perfectly. No glitches. Zero tweaks. Extremely good performance. Hardcore gaming.
Flawless. Zero tweaks. Works out of the box. Graphics, audio, controls, videos all work perfectly. Excellent performance.
HMA.exe is running and after 30 seconds it exits. No CPU usage. strace shows it is waiting on a file descriptor (poll or readv depending if ESYNC is on or off) and time outs eventually. Similarly wineserver is hanging on poll of one file descriptor and timeouts after 1 second, and after repeating this gives up after 30 seconds. So most likely some threading issue, or deadlock. Didn't have time to really dig deep into this.
I tried PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1, and it still doesn't work.
Flawless. Zero tweaks. Works out of the box. Graphics, audio, controls, videos all work perfectly. Excellent performance.
Both Direct3D and OpenGL renders work perfectly. "Full scene anti-aliasing" option is not available for me.
Note, that the game has pretty terrible graphics settings, in particular draw distance is pretty low, and texture filtering is terrible, mipmapping is also a bit pathetic, and there is no option to enable trilinear interpolation in the game. The same happens in Windows. So still Platinum.
Flawless. Zero tweaks. Works out of the box. Graphics, audio, controls, videos all work perfectly. Excellent performance.
Works really super good. On AMD Radeon, make sure to have Mesa 23.1 (or mesa git), so gpl (graphics pipeline library) is enabled by default.
Big map changes, floo flames loading can crash game. This is due to number of VM mappings. Solution is to do: echo vm.max_map_count=1000000 | sudo tee /etc/sysctl.d/99-hogwarts.conf && sysctl --system
, as default is 64k, but game routinly uses 75k when doing scene loading.
Game can still crash in some places, mostly due to running out of VRAM. I see it now rearly, adjust depending on your card and settings. DXR (ray tracing) on AMD RX 6900 XT works (requires few extra launch flags to enable it), but is a bit more unstable.
Minimal amount of tinkering required to make fully playable. Even without tinkering quite usable.
Game does shader compilation on every startup, which can take 3 minutes on my fast computer, so probably even more on slower ones.
Raytracing can be enabled, but at the moment probably not worth it.
Good performance, and stability. Sporadically runs out of VRAM. (maybe once every 10 hours)
Generally plays well. The only issue is that this game only works in 800x600. Game insists to only play in full screen, and in 800x600, but on bigger resolutions, it does some weird rescaling, making part of the screen not accessible. The best option is to change your screen resolution in your desktop environment to 800x600 and then launch the game. It works then PERFECTLY. The resolution issues are also present in the Windows versions, and similarly there is no in game options to change resolution or fullscreen mode, so I would call it close to Platinum.
Sometimes starts, but unstable. Crashes, etc.
Sometimes it crashes early on, sometimes when switching between fullscreen and windowed, sometimes very early. Tried many different flags, sometimes they help, but then you restart the game, and they don't help. Weird.
Works perfectly.
Native Vulkan support works awesome. But also works with DX12 (beta, using vkd3d) and DX11 (dxvk).
Finished the game. Works perfectly. Zero tweaks. Excellent performance. Only complain is that it doesn't show 16:10 resolutions in the resolution menu, and only shows 16:9 resolution (i.e. no 2560x1600 which is native to my monitor). Could be a fault of the game tho.
Crash at startup

Steam Play, defaults to Proton Experimental on my machine, it looks to be wine-7.0 from logs.
Stable, fluid, zero stutter, 4K, easily 110fps at max settings.
Game starts and work excellently, without any workarounds or tweaks. Performance is good and maximal settings, audio and input works fine in game, and graphics looks almost perfect. Perfectly playable overall.
There are few minor graphical glitches that put it away from Platinum: some textures are overlapping sometimes, and when cutting trees, a removed bark is black in shaded areas. There are few other minor areas where graphics looks glitch y (some water sometimes at beaches, and highlights when upgradeding building structures like walls, when looking at specific angles), but it is possible this is normal, as I can't compare it to windows behavior at the moment.
Also keyboard in chat emits two characters for every key press, sSoo yyoouu ttaallkk lliikkee tthhiiss.
Flawless. Zero tweaks. Works out of the box. Graphics, audio, controls, videos all work perfectly. Excellent performance, with all settings to maximum and high resolution, including non standard resolutions. I had no issues with Alt-Tab, or saving/quick saving. Only thing missing is mouse is not working (cursor is invisible, but it is there and you can click on things) in Steam overlay.
Functionally speaking Platinum. It works, no crashes, works pretty smooth too, etc. In my previous atemps the game was crashing on startup. This time both old and Redux versions work fine. The old version is using UE3, and DX9, so uses Proton/Wine translation to OpenGL. The new Redux version uses EU4, and DX12, with DXVK translating to Vulkan. The Redux version runs at higher framerate, but it does have sporadic stutering when entering new areas, as well sometimes seriously low framerate (i.e. when having fire from the crypt in the viewport, even if obstructed by other geometry, and from the distance). Some other times it just is low for no reason (10-20fps), and you turn head, and suddenly it is fine (60-130 fps). The older version, has less stuttering, and more consistent performance, but it is still there from time to time, but not as severe as Redux / DXVK one. However, the old version with DX9 / OpenGL, do have lower average framerate in general. So pick your choice. I hope to test it with ACO compiler for Radeon Fury X, once it is more polished, and my card is officially supported. Other than that, game is actually very playable, even with some stuttering.
Wow. After some Mesa, Kernel and Proton updates, it works flawlessly and smoothly. No tweaks (I needed some before). Performance is very good. Framerate is about 4 times better, sometimes 5, but always at least 3-4 times better, than what I have seen before. Easily 60-70 fps at very high resolution, and very high settings. Also couldn't spot any graphical glitches (previously there were minor glitches, but annoying, now there is none). Fully playable. Performance is probably better than on Windows. The only complain is that game in Fullscreen and resolution different than my desktop, doesn't really change screen resolution. My monitor is still saying it is receiving same signal resolution. Not perfect, as it somehow cuts off a bit of HUD. And my monitor is 1:1 aspect ratio (1920x1920), but the games doesn't like it much, and stretches proportions a bit vertically :/ I have no idea if I had similar issues on Windows, but I think less. I will test it on another monitor later. ~65 fps avg (45 fps min, 110 fps max) in benchmark at max settings and 1920x1920 resolution. I had previously ~14 fps (1 fps min) in the same benchmark at 1920x1200 resolution. Huge improvement. There is some ocassional stuttering (shader compilation), but very very little actually. On 3rd run of the benchmark, there was zero stuttering. In the game play stuttering is very rare and very brief, and game runs smoother than on Windows. Super happy!
Flawless. Zero tweaks. Works out of the box. Graphics, audio, controls, videos all work perfectly. Excellent performance.
Game starts without tweaks, but is very slow, and crashes when starting a tutorial, and there are limitations. Download TFix1.26a (156MB) from http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134733&p=2046644&viewfull=1#post2046644 , then execute in terminal: ln -s "${HOME}/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/thief_gold/" "${HOME}/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/211600/pfx/drive_c/Games/Thief"; WINEPREFIX="${HOME}/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/211600/pfx" "${HOME}/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton 3.16/dist/bin/wine64" ~/Downloads/TFix_1.26a.exe # Select a Thief game folder (C:\Program Files (x86)\thief_gold) and continue with installation of the fix. Leave everything as is, and leave anti-alliasing on. Then you can run Thief Gold from Steam, and it will work flawlessly, including high resolution modes, etc. Performance, graphics, audio, controls are work perfectly, just like on Windows. Enjoy.
Without tweaks game starts, but is horribly slow (800x600 in 16 bit color!), sometimes glitches in menu, and always crashes when starting tutorial.
Download TafferPatcher v. 2.0.18 from http://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=131106&p=1965795&viewfull=1#post1965795 , put it in ~/Downloads/ directory.
Then execute:
ln -s "${HOME}/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/thief_2" "${HOME}/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/211740/pfx/drive_c/Thief2"; WINEPREFIX=${HOME}/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/compatdata/211740/pfx ${HOME}/.local/share/Steam/steamapps/common/Proton*/dist/bin/wine64 ~/Downloads/TafferPatcher_TMA_218_beta.exe;
Select language, agree to license. Select C:\Thief2\ as a game directory. Do not select "Install Thief 2", this is for installing from CD, and you have Thief 2 already installed. For "Visual Enhancements" it is your choice. Game works without and with it. They improve a lot of textures, water and sky.
After patch install is done, just launch the game from the Steam. It will work perfectly, and smoothly, graphics, audio and controls will all work flawlessly. High resolution modes like 2560x1600x32 will work. Gamma adjustment will not work tho, so you better play in very dark room, or increase brightness on your monitor.
Doesn't start in current Proton. Yes, you can make it work with GloriousEggroll fixes and launcher, but it uses completely different version of wine, patched binaries, and and uses a lot tricks, that is most likely going to break with time (i.e. once game is updated) or break other games. You are better off playing it without Steam.
