Starts with a tiny fraction of the game screen. Hitting Backspace (on the Keyboard overlay for example) solved this
Works fine with Proton Experimental, even combat. Controls are a bit awkward.
16:9 only
Every other version I tried gave me only a black screen with the song playing. Works flawlessly after changing the Proton version
One time after sleep mode, I only had a bit of crackling; this seized after a few minutes.
Works flawlessly
Game stutters frequently, both on Linux and through Proton. Activating V-Sync in the Steam overlay seems to alleviate it a bit (might be placebo)
Aside from the stutter and skipping chunks of text if you press A slightly too long it's an okay experience
Customized the controls heavily to make things a little easier i.e. R2 = Parry button combination
Stutters during traversal sometimes. Never noticed it during boss fights or platforming sections.
Mapped R3 to the back
16:9 only
Works flawlessly
Controller is supported, but is sometimes mapped incorrectly.
Force a 16:9 resolution in the compatibility settings, otherwise some text in the library will be cut off.
Works well.
Because of the video effects, it sometimes was hard to tell if it says Bianca or Blanca
Game seems to have only partial controller support. Either use the touchscreen in some situations or map the mouse to the right trackpad or something
16:9 only
Starting the with the recommended Proton version shows only a black screen with music playing. With another version set it runs flawlessly.
Didn't have any problems, but some fonts may be small for players
Works flawlessly
Some stutter during the scenes with the ferryman
You don't need a webcam, the blinking can be done manually.
No cloud saves. Playing with the controller can be finicky. Plays well otherwise.
Verifying the game files, reinstalling and/or restarting the device did not work. Game crashes after a few seconds before even starting.
Tried every Proton version plus multiple GE and Experimental
In-game comics are really hard to read, even with the magnifier
Slowdowns in the more open areas.
Works great.
Changed the left touchpad to a radial menu and put the sensitivity for the right stick way down.
16:9 only
Hovers at ~40fps with dips. No in-game options.
Works alright.
Activated "one button mouse" in the options
Used an app that lets your smartphone act as a keyboard via Bluetooth for the first part. Works really well.
Stuttery in more open areas, bad optimization.
Shows KB&M prompts, even though it has controller support
Some noticeable dips in the later areas to about 40fps, the last checkpoint went as low as 33fps
Text may be small for some people.
4:3 only
Native Linux version didn't start. Changing to Proton provided a flawless experience.
Frequent dips to the 30s in busy scenes (practically the whole game)
No Cloud saves
Game can get pretty choppy with the default settings, especially playing Interlude.
Wmp11
Edited Video.scr to remove the comic border and letterboxing (see PCGamingWiki for details)
No in-game option for inverting the y-axis so I forced it in the Steam settings
Make sure to up the framecap to 60fps in the in-game settings.
Had two hard freezes when I wanted to retry a mission
For performance: see the other reports.
The HUD is cut off a bit using the widescreen option.
The person below me is lying. Game is locked to 30fps, though there is a beta branch with a 60fps version available since December (haven't tried that yet).
In the later parts of the game it can get a bit choppy.
Had to manually set some keys to enable saving
Had no sound issues. Game is pretty buggy, but I think that's not Proton specific
The prompt for shooting (RB) showed the right mouse button.
16:9
Maybe people should play through the whole game before submitting a report. Some later levels have notable stutter, it's not a locked 60fps. Works well enough, though.
Not "hard" per say, but the text was often jumbled and glitchy.
Shows Keyboard prompts, even when playing with the controller template. No crashes or anything. Launcher works with the touchscreen.
Text is crunched together, making it unreadable.
Unplayable. Tried a few different resolutions and Proton versions, to no avail.
Game stutters frequently during the later parts of the game in the hub area. Since the final boss is fought there, reduce settings to maintain 60fps.
There is a weird pixellation effect going on in some scenes. Dunno if this is the case on PC, too.
16:9 only
No cloud saves. Works well.
+com_showLoadingScreen 0
Not for me, but for many people the text will be on the small side.
Will crash nearly everytime when waking up from sleep. Use the launch command to skip all the otherwise unskippable logos and splash screens.
With everything set to maximum, the framerate fluctuates between approximately 40 -60fps. Didn't try FSR or anything else, which may help with performance.
Mapped Q/W to the bumpers to enable strafing
Game is locked to a 4:3 aspect ratio
Game sometimes slows down after about an hour or playing. Restarting it is quick and helps.
I strongly advise installing the bugfix mod found in the Steam guides. Good experience.
16:9 only
Neither the compass ability nor the pill worked. Not sure if specific to Proton.
Works well.
Managed to get it to work by downloading TkG-proton-experimental.bleeding. edge.7.0.36191.20230224 via Protonup.qt
Pretty stuttery, beginning with the area after the tutorial.
Performance out of the box is not good.
Can't hold 60 fps, sometimes not even 40.
Performance is a bit all over the place. Had one crash. Plays relatively well.
Abysmal performance in outdoor areas (which are 90% of the game), often sub 30fps
Game is not fast paced, so I didn't mind the horrible performance. Plays well otherwise, but is a bit buggy (which is probably the same on PC)
Dips into the 20s sometimes; there are no graphics options.
Plays perfectly, aside from the framerate issues.
Click on the "fullscreen" button in the main menu and then press Alt+Enter to make the text more readable
16:9 only, using the fullscreen button cuts off the screen at the right side
Two games (Engolasters and Behind Every Great One) didn't register the keyboard presses. Didn't test it with an external keyboard.
As other people wrote: the developer videos don't work from the launcher
If you choose 1280x800, a bit of the screen is cut off on the right side. 720p alleviated that.
Works better with the KB&M template than the controller one. Game works really well.
Made it controller friendly
Has a 4:3 aspect ratio
Cutscenes worked without changing Proton.
Default horizontal sensitivity is insanely low
During 3-2, the game freezes sometimes for a second.
Game crashes after 3-2. The next level ("Gutter") can be selected from the menu though and loads without problems
Change graphics preset to "Medium"
Performs much better after the big patch
It's a bit buggy, but that's not Proton's fault. Works very well.
Played a fair bit, works well after adjusting the controls here and there
Changed X, Y and B to 1, 2 and 3, respectively
16:9 only
Works very well. One minor bug: after loading, the Video settings were reset (film grain was the default value again)
Did a fair bit of customizing, as I was uncomfortable with the default control scheme. Also mapped movement to the Dpad and map/hacking to the back buttons.
I had a single crash in 22 hours of playtime, right after the credits rolled.
Played all three episodes. Turn V-Sync and the frame limiter off. Resolution scale to 100. Doesn't play at 60fps all the time, but is still perfectly playable with some slowdown, when there are many particles on the screen.
Lighting was busted
For some reason, the HDR settings were disabled, causing the lighting to completely disappear. Re-enabling them got rid of this problem.
Works flawlessly. I recommend using a KB&M layout, it works miles better using items and aiming this way.
Hovers at around 40fps
Cutscene plays, had to set the trackpad to mouse for the menu.
Game has a weird aspect ratio by design. Chapter intermissions were first cut off at the sides for me, setting the resolution to 1920x1080 in the Steam settings fixed this for me. Works flawlessly.
There were two flickering textboxes during my playthrough
See above
Had to use the medium preset and it still dropped frames in the larger, more open areas. Game is slow though, so it didn't really matter to me.
The in-game console works flawlessly with the Steam keyboard activated
16:9 only. The black bars sometimes glitch out.
Sometimes when waking up from sleep, it took up to 30 seconds for the controller to react
Pretty stuttery, even when lowering the resolution
Starts in 1920x1080, for whatever reason. Frequent stutter is annoying, but it's playable
Be sure to choose Windowed mode in the launcher otherwise, the click center is off ingame
The computer didn't work with the controller, had to use the touchscreen
Works well. 16:9 only.
16:9 only
Has some minor dips
Played for eight hours so far and had four or five crashes. Mainly when transitioning to a new area. Had to force restart the Deck.
A bit buggy and the sprite of your protagonist can get really small.
Some drops
Had many crashes/freezes when transitioning to other areas. Had to force restart the Deck to remedy this.
Fortunately, the crashes didn't corrupt the savegame. Player sprite can be insanely small.
Didn't recognize the keyboard hotkeys, mouse only
Saving worked for me
Put Esc on a face button
Works flawlessly
Many noticeable stutters
Surprisingly bad framerate for a 2D Metroidvania.
There is a glitch during some screen transitions, a white square is displayed in the upper right corner.
16:9 only
Slightly buggy and controls a bit awkward during the genre shift, but that's just Scumhead games for you. Good experience, nonetheless
I'll mark it as a yes, but your mileage may vary. You need to a bit of patience to truly enjoy the game.
Not a Proton issue, according to the Steam forums: game randomly freezes, sometimes after playing for two minutes, sometimes after half an hour. Had to hard reset the Deck two times. Game saves on every screen transition.
A bit stuttery at times
FMVs work using Proton GE.
My Deck crashed after the final cutscene
Changing graphic settings didn't seem to do anything. Framerate is fluctuating quite a bit.
1280x800 causes the text in the Options menu to be cut off. Use Windowed mode and 720p to remedy that.
Performance is atrocious, about 20fps in outdoor areas.
Performance is VERY rough, but the game is slower paced. Didn't bother me but your mileage may vary.
Framerate is all over the place
Works absolutely flawless without frame drops on max settings (except for shadows, which defaulted to Medium - game looks great with these settings though). Didn't have any problems with the controls, played it from start to finish.
Item descriptions are small and somewhat blurry
Some stutter during projectile heavy battles
You have to force-quit the game, exiting through the in-game menu doesn't work.
Had to manually set C for Quick Save and Z for running.
Won't close properly from the Main Menu, you have to force quit.
Works flawlessly.
Traversal has severe lag spikes sometimes
Playable, but the stutter can be annoying. At least they never happened during boss fights.
Some stutter beginning with Level 2
Text is cut off at 16:10 aspect ratio. Do yourself a favor and turn down SFX volume. Works well otherwise.
The Esc button (Start) stopped working, so I had to reboot the game once. Aside from that a flawless experience.
Made a radial menu for the numbers
Works flawlessly
Music doesn't play
Game will immediately close with stock Proton. Horrible game, avoid at all costs.
Works flawlessly with 60fps, great battery life and native gamepad support (just enable it in the settings)
Can be a bit choppy
Use the OpenGL version. DirectX leads to a black screen.
Had to manually map some buttons.
Supports neither 16:9 nor 16:10 aspect ratios
Works well after setting up the controls
Remap the mouse buttons to the triggers (or other buttons), otherwise you can't use the camera/revolver
Set control type to Controller in the options manually.
Had some slight stutter in the beginning, works well otherwise.
Set screen size to 2x in the menu. Works flawlessly.
Sometimes there is crackling upon waking up from sleep mode.
Doesn't support 16:10
Great experience, aside from two small issues.
With the standard controller layout, I couldn't use the gloves. Mapped LMB/RMB to L4/R4
Had to manually set the resolution to 1200x800 (default was 1024x768)
Fluctuates between 20-something and 40fps
Framerate is bad, but for this kind of game acceptable
Game regularly drops to the single digits
Game drops frames heavily. It gets worse after about an hour of playing. Exiting to main menu and continuing made it work better again.
16:9 only. Assign Alt+Enter to buttons, otherwise you'll play in a small window.
Quick Load crashes the game for me
Aside from the problem with quickloading it works fine.
Played a few minutes, seems to work just fine.
Used the right trackpad as a mouse because menu navigation with the controller is a pain in the ass
Two notes at the analysis table didn't render properly but nothing important
Starting with the Case 3, the more open areas can drop to the mid 30s (settings all on High)
The case statistics didn't load for me, maybe the servers are down. Works well and looks quite good on the small screen.
4:3 only
Played 45 minutes or so without a hitch. No cloud saves.
I strongly advise enabling Gyro (as a Mouse), aiming becomes much easier,.
Gas etc is visible. Default gamma is ridiculously low. Defaults to 1280x720, had to set the resolution one higher to make it 16:10.
Works flawlessly. I often used the touchscreen for typing the numbers, worked much better than with the controller
Only 16:9
Flawless experience on the Deck - the devs even put native controller support in, which utilizes the back buttons.
You have to set the resolution to 720p manually, if you don't, part of the screen is cut off
Doesn't like mixed input
Game is mainly stop motion, but some "animations" are really choppy
It's passable, but fan blows like crazy.
Installed the subtitle "patch"
Subtitles are small, many people will have problems with them.
NOTE: this report is for the GOG version. Plays great after tinkering with the controls.
Some flickering at the borders of the screen
Launcher can be used with the touchscreen. Works well.
Text may be small to some people. Be aware that you need to use the virtual keyboard (or a real one) quite often. It's only some simple codes and a few words and you have no time pressure while doing so, so it's perfectly doable.
Game has a 4:3 aspect ratio. Works well otherwise, but framerate isn't the greatest.
Set some hotkeys for the UI
My PC didn't recognize the Cloud save
Works flawlessly.
When pressing Start ('Esc' key) the system cursor is visible for about ten seconds, but it disappears.
Hovers at about 50fps most of the time
The text in the third episode may be hard to read for some people.
16:9 only
Works very well.
16:9 only
The default controller layout utilizes the back buttons and even displays their function ingame. Default sensitivity on the right trackpad is WAY too low, otherwise it plays absolutely great.
Slightly buggy, but that's not Proton specific. Good experience.
Played through the first level without any bugs or problems. Videos play too.
Works flawlessly
Shows only keyboard prompts. Run button (R2) works only with this Proton version.
16:9 only
No cloud saves. Works flawlessly. Not sure what the report below me is talking about.
Text is a little on the small side
16:9 only
Played through the first three memories without a hitch.
Horrible performance.
No Cloud saves.
Had to manually map buttons to make it feel natural on a controller.
Starts in 1600x900, put it to 1280x720
Default stick/trackpad sensitivity is INSANELY high. Had to put it to about 30% to make it playable.
Works really well.
Some minor stutter when many sprites are on screen. Works like a charm otherwise, including cutscenes.
Don't know if it was patched or something, but it worked perfectly fine for me. Audio works as well.
Had to put some settings down to medium to achieve a better framerate (game still looks great)
Crashes when exiting through the main menu
16:9 only
Character sprite can get a bit small, plays perfectly otherwise.
Frequent stutter.
Had three crashes. Game saves every few seconds, so it's alright.
Avoid the native version.
Supports only 16:9
Played for an hour and ran into no issues so far.
Only has partial controller support.
Textures often linger in the air.
Menus don't work with a controller.
Game is quite choppy, no matter the settings. It's an unoptimized mess.
Game is just buggy in general.
Game is just buggy in general, probably on Windows too l.
Framerate is a bit choppy with everything on max
Great little teaser that works with native controller support.
Using anything other that Proton Experimental it failed to launch. Zero issues other than that.
Cutscenes work with Proton 9.0.3. Experimental or GE is not needed. Game works well.
16:9 only
Default layout didn't work, mouse only. The community one did the trick.
Launcher works.
VERY noticeable, frequent stutter.
Nothing "perfect" about this game on Proton. Game has frequent microstutters.
Text is cut off to the right during the chat sequence
Works almost flawlessly
