Native Support
Although this game has a Linux-native build available, Steam does not list it as having Linux support. This can happen if a game has an unofficial, unfinished, or unsupported build. You may need to force Steam to enable Proton for the game in order to run properly.

Works
Didn't launch until I specified Proton 9.0-4, which I'm pretty sure it was using by default anyway, probably just a bug
Framerate is tied to simulated physics so unlocking the FPS with ini tweaks resulted in very subtle yet game breaking bugs. Recommended to just play it how it comes by default (100fps)

Played with M+KB

Installed DirectPlay, a component required for multiplayer mode

Install SS2tool via proton tricks to unlock resolution and fps. link to SS2tool https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4141.0
used Protontricks to install SS2Tool
I recommend instaling these mods for a more modern experience with the game. This one is a mod manager use protontricks to open https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4790.0 and this are the recomended mods https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=4447.0

Installed SS2Tool, but I had to downgrade to Proton 4.11-13 in order to be able to install it. Switched back to latest Proton to play the game and it runs well.
All the native version does is run the same Windows executable through an old version of Wine. Forcing Proton will give you a much better experience. SS2Tool can be installed for the mod manager and launched through protontricks, but I had to fall back to Proton 4.11-13, otherwise it would not even install. Switching back to a newer Proton version will work.

Basically Native
sometimes goes fullscreen on the wrong screen
does not sync across installs on systems with Windows

I always customize my game controls. I never use defaults.

Game works fine
Just make sure to force set to use Proton and the game runs fine

lots of changes to map the keyboard/mouse to the steam deck controls. There is no controller support
will install subtitle mod later on that was reported in other reports.
I was not able to see any cinematics when using proton 8. I had to go back to proton 6.3 in heroic launcher settings to see ANY cinematics. Game seems to be working fine, but I haven't played any of it. Just wanted to report that you have to go back to previous proton versions to be able to see cinematics as I didn't see that suggestion in here.
Runs perfect! Fantastic performance, zero issues, vanilla game, no modifications of any kind

It runs quite well after compability mode turned on. But I can't see the cutscenes though.

Installed the subtitle "patch"
Subtitles are small, many people will have problems with them.
NOTE: this report is for the GOG version. Plays great after tinkering with the controls.
Native linux build sucks. Force compatibility via properties menu and install mods using DMM: https://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=44
Никаких проблем при игре не было, кроме еле заметного потрескивания (я сначала думал, что при проигрывании записей так и задумано). Игра полностью проходима.
Works great, but force experimental, and if it crashes on loading save games, use wine3d11 instead of vulkan.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D11=1 %command%
Depending on i guess your hardware and drivers - it might work out of the box, but native version has audio issues, and proton version crashed on loading save games when using default vulkan.

This game does not support controllers. A gamepad to keyboard remapping program is needed (AntiMicroX, QJoyPad, joy2key, etc).
This game runs well with Proton 7.0 and Experimental. The "native" Linux version uses an old version of wine that doesn't work on my computer. It leaves behind the folder ~/.systemshock2
, which can be deleted.
switch to experimental and the game loads. native version is just the windows version running in an old version of wine and has sound issues
Flawless

crackling
From beginning in main menu to all levels hear crackling
Playble, but sound crackling makes me ill

Install OpenAL Soft for better audio and to enable EAX. The OpenAL provided is for Creative (which is outdated and requires a physical soundcard). Use SS2Tool. Also run with Proton, not Native. Native just uses a wine wrapper which is not recommended for obvious reasons.
works fine
Had to use the Proton version to get mods working as the folders didn't seem to work in the "Native" version. Game runs better in Proton.

Proton version is better than native
Native version had audio issues for me (crackling audio). Forcing Proton fixed the issue.
Plays great with Proton 5.0
Some of the key bindings with the Steam Controller input were off, so just needed to remap keyboard bindings to match gamepad.
The native Linux version (as of this report) is no longer available on Steam, and had an issue sizing resolution correctly to my display, so that main title page and menus were not fully visible. Forcing use of Proton 5.0 resolved all issues and played great from start to finish without issue.
Using an Intel HD 4600, most of the game textures are missing. This is caused by the new D3D9 renderer. Opening cam_ext.cfg and adding a ; before use_d3d_display will force the older D3D6 mode. Not all systems will need to do this, but do this if you have issues.
Works perfect.
The native version offered by Steam ran, but no audio. Switching to Proton fixed that.
Only in native. Switching to Proton fixes this.
Bad stuttering with Proton 5.0-7 when moving mouse to aim. Fixed by switching to Proton 4.11-13. Game works flawlessly so far.
No issues.
Native Port had a problem where the resolution was wrong and I could not get to the game menus, I could not Alt-F4 and Alt-Tab switched but the game still kept control. I could reboot from the Ubuntu menu. Forcing to use Proton worked fine.

Initially had problems with the audio; solved by forcing Proton 5.0-5
Had to force the game to run in Proton 5.0-5 before the audio problems stopped
The framerate caps at 75fps for some strange reason, but doesn't ever seem to go below that.
It works with well 4.11 I haven't tried 5.0
Worked great. Finished the game after 30+ hours of fun.
Proton version works perfectly

runs just fine but the audio constantly clicks and pops, like it is bad quality or something. This happens to all audio in the game but occasionally sounds just fine for a minute or two, then goes right back to poping

Game doesn't run native on Linux for me. But works fine out of the box on Proton. I installed D9VK and it worked great too, even when testing it with the new ACO compiler.

Native doesn't work but with Proton runs fine

Native is borked but proton works well.
