All features of the game worked as expected. There were no issues installing, launching, configuring, or playing the game at any point.

Sometimes Alt-Tabbing or leaving the window would prevent re-focusing the window, resulting in the game having to be restarted.

Every time there's an explosion (Or anything that creates a large amount of particles) the game slows down to single digit fps.
Had to refund in, unfotunately. Worked really well on windows when I've played the demo a few years ago.

Weapon models turn a weird metallic color when facing certain directions.
Some weird issue with raw input where sometimes mouse would stop working if raw input was enabled.
Need to use the launch option otherwise the game is very slow

Launching via Desktop Mode
Cursor remains visible in Menu, unable to move it
Low FPS when launched normally
The game performs well (seemingly stable 60 fps in both exploration and battle) when launched in Desktop Mode. Launching via Gaming mode still produces 40 fps in menu and ~15 in game, old tweaks mentioned in previous comments seem not to work now.
To be safe make sure to disable fps limit and experimental options in game settings even when launching via Desktop mode.

On Wayland its a choppy mess, switch to X11 for smooth framerate

MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink %command%
Without the launch option, the game ran at <40 FPS (4k) with micro stutter. With the launch option fix, the game run at >144 FPS (4k) no problem.

MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink %command%
Game is very unstable unless launch options are applied

40 FPS in main menu, 10-15 FPS gameplay. The fixes suggested in previous reports (disabling v-sync/FPS limits) no longer work.

Before adding the launch options the game would stutter running Proton Hotfix. Proton Experimental was unplayable. After adding the launch options and using Hotflix the game runs perfectly.
FPS is definitely lower than it would be running natively on Windows on the same hardware but it never dropped under 60 FPS so I would describe the performance as acceptable.

I had FPS issues running this game on Fedora and 3070ti. Also it wouldn't run on newer versions of Proton. With this launch options it runs on a newer Proton and FPS is a lot smoother. I switched to an AMD GPU though, and can't report if the FPS issues are resolved for an Nvidia GPU.

export MESA_LOADER_DRIVER_OVERRIDE=zink; gamescope -f -- %command%
I had to turn off raw input in control settings
I had to switch to Zink driver otherwise the FPS were really low

I tested this game with the GOG version and Heroic. Completed all episodes in 20 hours.
First I had problems with the game showing only a black screen and cursor, fixed by installing Wine dependencies (https://github.com/lutris/docs/blob/master/WineDependencies.md). After the fix, there were no further issues.
Also tested on a cheaper HP laptop with an Intel CPU with integrated graphics, also runs without problems.
Runs flawlessly out of the box

The game is capped at 30fps
Other than that everything works as it should
(Wine-GE-8-26)

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Particle effects such as explosion and bullets cause significant framerate drops.
I tried different Proton versions and launch options but I couldn't fix the performance on my system.

Game runs very well if it's being ran on X11, is completely unplayable on Wayland.
Had significant performance issues, was able to solve by running on X11 instead of Wayland for plasma users.

ProtonGE-9.1, as well as Proton 5
Max fps was 30, during explosions it would go down to like 5

Problems occur if you don't shut off the frame limiter and vsync.
As long as you change those options this is a good experience. The only slightly annoying thing is the game seems to have some controller deadzone that makes any precise movement very hard.

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Slight fps drops with particle effects
Launch options gets rid of the fps drops, they are really noticeable if you are sensitive to fps drops.

Steam Deck performance fix. Step 1:Go to steam deck performance and turn fps limit off Step 2:Use Proton 8.0-2 Step 3:In the game options turn fps limit off Step 4:Make sure the last option in the video options is turned off. Hrot experimental
You should be getting 60 fps now.
fixed by the tweaking notes but it was before 15 fps on the E1M1 savegame i had
my hope is restored, thanks some steam forum https://steamcommunity.com/app/824600/discussions/0/3825289852110926842/

A high amount of partical effects absolutely destroys the frame rate. The main culprits seemed to be explotions, prolonged smg fire and shots from the konfident and sent my fps down to single digits. Setting the resolution to 1% and the Framerate cap to 120 helped give more of a buffer before the fps droped but a lot of the fire fights near the end went down to seconds per frame and i had to pause the game to get it to catch up.
If anyone finds a way to turn of particle effects the game would be perfectly playable for most

PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
The game runs extremely slow on Vulkan. You need to switch to OpenGL for better performance. Just add PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 to your launch options.

Played all three episodes. Turn V-Sync and the frame limiter off. Resolution scale to 100. Doesn't play at 60fps all the time, but is still perfectly playable with some slowdown, when there are many particles on the screen.

SOLUTION: Turn off vsync and framerate caps (in-game as well as in the quick settings)
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="openal32=b" %command%
After playing for about 30 minutes or so, the game suddenly becomes stuttery. I do not know the cause, so I restart the game to play normal again.
Played from beginning to end.
The continually fluctuating framerate unfortunately makes the game a bit of a chore to play on Deck at the moment.
Game constantly fluctuates between 60 to 30 frames per second, sometimes even lower.
It did work better a few months ago, briefly, and it's better than it was 6 months ago, but I still wouldn't recommend trying to play the game this way at all.
Aiming wasn't working with raw mouse input so I had to disable it.
Raw input wasn't working
The sound doesn't work.
after an extended period of time, the game suddenly starts to suffer from extremley choppy framerate. restarting the game helps, but one should not be annoyed by such a problem normally.
aside from the reoccuring framerate issue, the game works and plays as intended. no issues with audio, but in case one has problems with audio, they should use the launch option specified in other people's reports.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="openal32=b" %command%
slows down to 5 fps at times
Works fine with a few minor issues.
Occasional freezes on alt-tab. Steam overlay gets stuck.
Framerate sits about 100 fps which isn't perfect given the hardware/graphics but totally playable.
Finally works perfectly at 60 FPS with asolutely no tinkering needed. Just install from Steam and play.

The game works flawlessly when launched via Steam in Desktop mode. Also, Steam does not seem to honor custom controller configurations in desktop mode. A workaround is to change the desktop controller configuration to your HROT config, via 'Steam - Settings - Controller - Desktop Configuration'. It's inconvinient, but it works.

Framerate is not that great, even when switching to older version of Proton. If you can look past that it's a pretty solid game overall.
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="openal32=b" %command%
No audio at all unless you use the launch command others have shared.

WINEDLLOVERRIDES="openal32=b" %command%
No performance issues like there used to be on the same hardware.
Game only runs at ~10-15 fps, hrot_gl setting and resolution slider do not help
Maybe if you're masochistic you can try but in the current state it just runs too poorly
WINEDLLOVERRIDES="openal32=b" %command%
Needs to switch to 5.0 version of Proton with WINEDLLOVERRIDES="openal32=b" set as environment variable. Once it's done it works perfectly.
