No errors (upon 1 hour of play)
Minimum graphic setting averages around 370FPS@1080p in the practice area (no enemy ships; GPU using OC and 90% power limit.)
- Mission 1 feels fine: if anything, I'm negatively biased attempting MKB controls, with my main controller being damaged (physically, not a game issue)
- Will likely come back to the game, replay campaign and update this review once I fix my controller/order a new one

launch command works- PCGW method of disabling EAC works (seems to improve performance by >50fps? not sure if placebo.) This does remove the popup I see for EAC I see otherwise.
- If your PC can run it, I recommend minimizing TAA setting and just use supersampling for aliasing.

I've played the multiplayer campaign for several hours without issues using Proton 10.0 (beta-1f)
I couldn't find multiplayer online matches, so I can't judge if it's working properly

Disabled SteamInput to be able to map yaw and throttle axes properly for Logitech Extreme 3D
Few players online but functionally perfect.
Runs perfectly, 2K rez, 150+ FPS at High settings
It quits after the splash screen. Switching Proton to 8.0-5 didn't help.

gamescope -w 3840 -h 2160 -f -e -r 144.0 --adaptive-sync --hdr-debug-force-output --hdr-enabled --mangoapp -- %command%
While playing I would have unacceptably low performance for my hardware around 30 FPS and my GPU would be sitting at around 40% usage. I tried a variety of things, namely running in borderless windowed as described here but couldn't fix my issue. When borderless it would have high FPS briefly and then settle back into poor performance. The one thing I didn't try was disableing gamescope and HDR, but I basically only bought this game for eye candy.
Refund requested due to this.

Installs and runs perfectly via Lutris, with cachyos-proton. Did not run via Heroic, as EA App install failed in Heroic. Store used: EGS

Had a difficult time getting this to launch. It would crash right after the Easy Anticheat splash screen. This served as a red herring, and I spent hours trying to troubleshoot EAC. Finally tried different proton versions. Reverting to version 8.0-5 fixed it. Finally, native performance with full joystick functionality.
Perfect. (but doesn't work at all yet on my other machine.)

Does not work for me (but works fine on my other machine)
I have tried different proton versions, and launch options "gamemode %command%
" as others suggested. No joy thus far...

Singleplayer works great
Cant say if multiplayer works, due to a lack of players

Issue with EZ anticheat
Could not find a fix with common troubleshooting methods, probably due to anticheat. Game shows the EZ anticheat screen then does not launch.

Fonctionne sans plus de configurations
si vous utilisez une manette ps4 ou ps3 il faut activer steam input
le jeu en ligne fonctionne, cependant il y a très peu de joueurs en ligne sur ce jeu, le jeu en ligne est un peu mort

Severe FPS drops in fullscreen mode, solved by using Borderless instead
Screensaver would activate as joystick inputs did not prevent screensaver. Solved with "gamemoderun %command%" in launch parameters.
If using Fullscreen mode, returning to the hangar in Fleet Battles caused the game to drop to 3fps. Minimizing and reopening would fix. Solved the issue completely by using Borderless instead.
Use gamemode and Borderless window mode and that seems to solve all issues.

The game was purchased through EA Storefront, so I had to install it through EA App. Encountered an issue during installation through it: i've got stuck at "wrapping up", i.e. after all the files were downloaded; at ~70% of the process - for infinity. The issue seemed to be caused by EasyAnticheat installer: it seemed like it got in an endless loop of launching new instances of itself, untill I've killed all of them through System Monitor. I suppose, EasyAntiheat wasn't installed on my prefix, but the singleplayer runs fine.
Easy Anticheat installer might cause the same issue during installation of other games, especially via EA App.

only the normal ea bugs the occur on windows too.
Everything works great out of the box. VR is the only issue I'm having, staying centered. And it's not an issue with the game. (samsung oddessey + with monado, openhmd, openxr-sdk etc compiled from source) But still quite enjoyable. After hours upon hours of setup.

Dogfight works perfectly.
Joystick does not prevent sleep and the mouse must be wiggled occasionally to keep the screen from locking
Severe drop in frame rate after returning to hangar in fleet battle.
Returning to the hangar in Fleet Battles drops the framerate to 2-3hz.
Crashes immediately after loading EAC completes

My review so far on the game, it runs perfect on Single player story, i never had any FPS problem, Alt+Tab problem or crash, everything runs smooth, i did not test the online fight because i'm more into the single player.
Works perfectly fine

better than most other ea games on linux/steam deck

Described under "other bugs"
Closer to the end of the story mode some missions were hanging right after the hangar. And I was unable to finish it as one of the later missions completely failed to load - the screen was frozen
I tried to do some simple things like decreasing the graphical settings, changing proton version and reinstalling the game, but it still failed to load the latest missions.

Have not stumbled upon any issues as of yet...
I have not found the time to play that much yet but it doesnt seem to be any problem with the game.

Works perfectly out of the box (single player only, no EA account)
Every time I start the game I get a prompt box to update my AMD Radeon driver, but I just click the "ok" button and it launches without problem (and I don't even have an AMD graphics card lol)

Don't even see Origin, goes straight from Steam. Takes a while to load initially but plays fine!
Works A1 from installation, could/should be optimised for power saving but shows no sign of potential latency or crash.

Proton 8.0.3
Highly recommended for Linux with Proton.
Runs great on linux
First run from desktop. Each run after have to sit through a blank screen with an X for 10 seconds before it launches
Worked well, couldnt find a multiplyer match to join and test.

Tried multiple times to load this game. Don't think I've ever made it to the main menu.

The non-steam version is missing the easyanticheat_x64.so file. Without it, you won't be able to connect to the servers due to EAC errors. I fixed it by downloading and copying the file into the EasyAntiCheat folder within the game installation (download, working link at the time of writing). Note that the version from Apex does not work in this case!
I got "Star Wars: Squadrons" for free from Amazon Prime Gaming. Since it's not the Steam version, I've installed and configured it like this:
- Installation: Lutris -> Origin -> Star Wars Squadrons (note that Origin is currently being replaced by EA app)
- Configuration: Use "Wine-GE-Proton7-35" as runner and enable EAC support
- Performance: Use medium settings and limit FPS to 40 (set refresh rate to 40 Hz)
- Multiplayer: Use the appropriate EAC .so file (as described above) for online multiplayer (not needed for single player)
With that configuration, the game runs fine with pretty stable 40 FPS.
Single player worked out of box. Even with signing into EA in game.
Worked out of the box, no issues

Gameplay will start, but will freeze for 5 minutes, unfreeze for about 5 seconds, freeze for 5 minutes and repeat.
Unplayable. Should not be considered verified.

I have only played a couple of missions in the story and a lot of practice in the training grounds. Thrustmaster T16000M joystick works great with the game.
I've really enjoyed the gameplay for story mode so far. I'll need to update my review after playing multiplayer online.
If you only want to play online then it's fine but the story mode can't be beat.
In mission 9 sometimes dying causes the game performance to tank and the game has to be relaunched to fix. After going into the hanger to change ships nothing renders other than the ui. This bug also affects mission 10 and makes it impossible to finish.
Online works fine. I'm bad at the game though so I only played two matches for testing.

in local files dir ( next to the game exe ) added dxvk.conf file containing: 'dxgi.nvapiHack = False' to ignore my CPU's built in graphics and use my dedicated GPU.
On startup it requires a EA account login which wasn't straightforward to enter. You may get a black screen with only the word "close" in the top right with no easy way to do so. It also failed to toggle back to VR ( SteamVR failed which also required a restart of the game )
Moving the mouse around would highlight menus but no mouse pointer was visible. Sometimes it listed controller buttons which didn't exist ( no button 11 ?) so forced to use keyboard.
Recognized my flight stick without issue.. was easy to configure within the game.

gamemoderun %command%
Multiplayer was attempted but the game did not find other players to match in a reasonable amount of time.
The game performs flawlessly. Graphics all load in without issues and the framerate is sufficient.
I had to force Proton version 7.0-4 to get this to boot, as Experimental/latest only launched the game the first time I played. Subsequent launches on experimental did not boot, but using 7.0-4 appears to be reliable.
