Perfect game for Steam Deck
There is not much to say, the game runs without any problems.
works out of the box

Completely flawless OOTB
The workarounds mentioned in older reports here are no longer needed, an appropriate workaround was merged into Proton itself and is included with Proton 9.0.

Worked out of the box
Runs perfectly

The game uses stylized fonts to convey personality which are difficult to read on a small display. There is an option to use simpler fonts though.
I encountered one bug during one dialogue where choosing one specific option would kick me out of the dialogue, and would prevent me from interacting with the world. Restarting helped, but the dialogue option remained bugged. Not sure if it was a linux or game issue. Otherwise flawless.

Text is on the small side, but still readable on Deck
Works perfectly out of the box

A great game that is a mix of a visual novel and RPG in a medieval setting. Great to play on the Steam Deck and runs amazingly.

Works perfectly out of the box (proton experimental).
Tried everything listed in all comments. 2hrs of debugging attempts. Steam reports game as "running", never opens any window though.
Very occasionally will lock up, but the game saves often.
PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
Deleted /Pentiment_Data/Plugins/x86_64/SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll
Wouldn't Run
Tried every method mentioned on this page, and several different versions of Proton. Game would either hang on the Steam loading window or crash with a Unity window on the initial loading screen.
Played through the entire game without any issues..
Delete Pentiment/Pentiment_Data/Plugins/x86_64/SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll
Game will crash on startup if you do not delete Pentiment/Pentiment_Data/Plugins/x86_64/SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll
Crash at startup. Fixed by removing the file "/Pentiment_Data/Plugins/x86_64/SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll".
removed SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll ; but still would not play until I used GE7-49 Proton
had to use ProtonGE7-49; Steam-packaged Proton would not work
Removed SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll
Browse Local Files; rename or delete Pentiment_Data/Plugins/x86_64/SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll
Game runs excellent and as expected without any adjustments
Removed SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll
Needed to remove SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll. Game refused to launch if that dll file was there.
Changing the file name as others have mentioned was required.
Minor stuttering when loading and saving
This game plays perfectly on Linux, as long as you take the initial step of removing SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll from the plugin folder.
As others noted, the game will not launch unless SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll
is deleted from Pentiment_Data\Plugins\x86_64
. Note: this will disable the speech synthesis accessibility option.
When switching scenes (enter/exit a house, engage dialogue etc.) both the top and the bottom of the screen show a thin artifacted line for a brief moment. It's very minor but noticable. Confirmed that this does not happen on WIndows.
A fantastic game in its own right that plays very well on Linux without major issues.
As mentioned from other users, you have to delete SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll in Pentiment_Data/Plugins/ because else it will crash shorty after hitting the play button.
Now everything seems to work flawlessly.
This game works flawlessly so far. As mentioned by the others, you have to delete SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll in Pentiment_Data/Plugins/x86_64 though, else the game will crash shortly after hitting the play button.

Crashes at in-game loading screen just after launch
The game starts with a loading screen with a windmill on bottom left. Within about a second or two it crashes with no error message.
Works great after you remove SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll in the Pentiment_Data/Plugins/x86_64 directory.
Removed SpeechSynthesisWrapper.dll as mentioned in other reviews.
Seems to start up but instantly crashes if the DLL isn't removed.
